Alien Species in Elite

I think they should make more of discoveries of planets with life once planetary landings come in for sure.. not every race will be space farers, but for those that are, i sure can't wait to meet them in game :)

Personally, I'm all for live and let live but I believe a lot of players (especially younger ones) are of the "We come in peace.. shoot to kill" mentality ;)

They learned it off the older generation, you know, the ones that start real wars that kill real people.... ;)

What if they're friendly?! :)

The thing with aliens is that they are alien, they won't think or act like we do. Take the different species here on Earth. "Oh look a lion, they look friendly in the zoo I wonder if it is friendly. I'll go and stroke it as it looks like a big cat and so should be friendly... Argh!!!"

Lions are just big p ussy cats... (apparently I'm not allowed to use that word... Even though it was entirely innocent  )

So two days ago, I read the Elite novella "The Dark Wheel", that was released with the game. The protagonist, Alex Ryder, seems to encounter quite a few different species in the "South" side of the Coriolis he was aboard, including Orreresians which look remarkably like Thargoids. For so long I thought that the game took place in a universe where the only species known were Humans and Thargoids. I'd lke to see some form of hinting at multiple species in the game, and perhaps the ability to find tharglets in the future. I can't believe I didn't know, the belief that humans were the only known species had made the game a little bit worse up until I read that.

Anyone do anything similar, or does anyone agree with me?

EDIT: Maybe those awesome commodities in the novella can be added, or similar ones can be added. I'd love to find Mymurth, Thurnpberry juice or Schizophrenic furs (or whatever they're called :p).

Glad to see you've read the book from the original Elite!

There are many more that were released just before Elite: Dangerous went live. You can find all of them on Amazon (just search "Elite: Dangerous"). But if you're interested in Thargoids, may I suggest 'Elite: Out of the Darkness' by T. James. :D

- in galnet we read about alien artefacts already
- we know of several "restricted" areas in the milky way galaxy, some of the size of our colonized cluster of space or even bigger.

so there will be aliens for sure.....question is when

Personally, I would love to see some aliens in Elite Dangerous. And I'm talking about aliens that are really aliens - like the Huragok from Halo or the Hivers from the Traveler RPG.

Don't most people who go to Sag A say they find uninhabitted+independent stations which is unnerving in some way?

Now, I don't know what those theocratic factions of our part of the galaxy might have to say about that, but those stations can't have popped up out of nowhere. ;)

Each time when I am exploring, I come across a planet with indigenous life, I often think what they are like. If only I could visit (hopefully one day). Come across a lot actually, and I am sure others have as well, but space faring species I expect there might only be a few, and maybe fewer than at able to travel around the galaxy. I do feel its something missing in the game atm.

I would love to see all different stages of a species development in the game, something to explore and seek out (queue Star Trek theme :p). Might see some that are primitive, others that are industrial or tech based but unable to venture into space yet (could still potentially visit, trade etc), and even a few that might have reached space but not ventured to other systems (like us in 2015). Some hostile, others passive, others reclusive and perhaps some we simply cannot communicate with.

I hope when aliens are introduced its not just the Thargoids, but a wider range which could tie into all the activities from exploring to missions, to combat, to trade etc.
