My son desperately wants some toy Elite:Dangerous ships. Frontier, make this happen!

I wonder if any of the community managers, or marketing guys at Frontier have even bothered looking at this thread.

I would totally buy a T-Shirt
I would totally by a scale model

Thats like $150.00 or more right there.

T-Shirt 35$

Model Kit $100.00?

Then 9% tax...boom $147.50?

Come on frontier...

If anyone is handy with 3D modeling, I have access to a shop with 3D printers. I am also a part time artist would be able to airbrush them in any design of your choosing.
Why not ask Frontier Developments first to deliver these models for this particular purpose?
Or without actually releasing the models, they might be able to hook up to https://www.3dhubs.com/
I don't know how it works, never used it. But I can imagine that there is some API which would make connecting to a webshop a reality.

go there please, fast:

Kerbal space program offer 3D printed models of your ship. Same for your character for infinity blade 3. E:D should too. I want my Python ! Wwwhhhaaaahhhh

I'm currently collecting the Star Trek StarShips by Eaglemoss....
I'm over halfway to the 70th issue (the "last" one) - So, I will soon be due another thing to collect.

ED ships would be AMAZING to sit along side my Star Trek ones :)

To borrow the phrase I have heard: "Shut up and take my money!!" hehe. I'd love to have a scale die-cast model of a Cobra and/or Asp.

I wonder how hard it could be, they have 3D models of the ships for the game, just a question of getting them out in a format a manufacturer could produce with...

Failing that, gimme an STL file and I'll 3D print my own ;)

I've got a load of the X-Wing table top miniatures for the strategy game - it would be pretty awesome to have an Elite set!

There are several games that are missing out on making some big money. I never understood why the really popular Sci-Fi and military game developers don't produce more toys. I have no idea how much the Star Wars franchise has made through the years but its got to be 100's of millions or more.
.
Another game that's ripe for models and toys is MechWarrior. I'd like to have a few Mechs sitting around the house. Star Trek, Star Wars, and a few others are raking it in via toy sales why can't others (?).

Where are the Germans or Japanese? They would knock this out of the ballpark. FDev don't think you will have any serious buyers run up a quick kickstarter, I would give.

I was working out the details of creating a detailed metal model kit to sell.
In a newsletter a while back, FDev encouraged people to talk to them about licensing and gave appropriate contact details. I sent off a request for info, but haven't heard anything back.
Talking to someone else who also inquired about commercial licensing, I'm not alone. I'm guessing they're still backlogged with other tasks. (Elite has exploded and that's a lot for a little ol' game dev studio to keep up with - normally there is a big publisher with dedicated departments for all this sort of stuff (and even then the ball often still gets dropped))

That said, it hasn't been all that long since I enquired either - I'll give it a few more weeks.

LOL :)

Martin Landau... I remember it well.

I've got an original Enterprise and a Romulan battle cruiser than fire the yellow round plastic discs at home ;) Not quite the same.

I am more than fair with silicone molds and slush-casting; I would be happy to make molds (and thereby many many!) of a 3d printed model, if someone makes one.

The more I think about it, the more I think that maybe a space station model appeals to me more than a ship model. I assume most people would prefer ships though?

Some 1/72 scale ships would be awesome!

If i had the ship models i could 3D print them then hollow out the ships to fit motors to either fly them if i can keep the weight down. Or just add a small RC car to it and let you run them around.

I could try to make one using my old micro rc car, foam, paint but i think having the ship models would help ALOT.

If anyone has the models send me a shout i'll see what the costs would be to build an ASP Quadcopter.

EDIT: A-U839-G.jpg This is what i would be able to make if i had the ship CAD models.

Asp.

Die Cast.

Would buy in a heartbeat!

For those who think is just a matter of models, etc. It is rather a matter of quantity. No serious business would consider FD with its proposal if it is not in the order of the thousand, maybe 40k and up.

Even at MOQ (Minimum Order Quantity), each model could end up costing $50-$60. Then they have to make sure they find the 40k people who would buy it at that price point....planet wide, not less...

400,000 players, of those, how many would be willing to buy a model? being conservative here, say 15%, that's 60,000. Taking Sidey, Cobra, Asp, Eagle as the more popular ones. Which one of those would single-handedly meet the 40K at $60 a piece??

....

All numbers guesstimate, but think this is what's killing this project....
