Can we get a real "Pause" function in solo mode?

I wasn't happy to see my ship attacked by some pirates when I paused the game and went to restroom... It completely makes sense if the game cannot be paused in multiplayer mode, but at least in solo mode, a real "Pause" will make the life much easier. A bounty hunting session can last several hours without the need to go back to the station, yet everyone could have some real-life matters like a phone call or toilet break. I don't want to save and rejoin every time just for short breaks. Or it doesn't have to stop everything in the background from working, just remove the player from the instance and put them back in where they were. Some requirement like that you must not be in danger to use the pause function or there will be a 15 second countdown should be enough to prevent abuse of this function.

A major shortcoming of the game, methinks. If one is playing in solo then why can't the game be paused? I went to answer the front door a couple days ago after having set my SC throttle to nothing, but came back to find my station way behind me. This is idiotic, not having a pause capability for a single player game.

Please try to understand how this game works. It is no secret as it has been explained many times.

Solo is NOT offline.
The universe is an ongoing online simulation and even being a solo player you still interact with that same universe as everybody else does in solo or open.
Of course you cannot stop/pause the simulation!

But you can simply exit the sim if needed anywhere you want.
It takes a mere second to jump in again and you will find your ship close to where you left it.

this 100%
pause was mentioned during the development of the game but because the game is online you wont see a pause feature. as iskariot says just exit out of the game to the main menu all it take is one extra click, not to difficult.

While in supercruise, you can NEVER completely stop moving. Even at zero throttle you will notice your speed is not zero. The only way to completely stop is to drop into normal space and then zero your throttle.

Even tho it says SOLO you are still on the live server and you just don't see live players. They can't stop the server so we can't have a "pause" button. Exit to main menu works best.

It's funny seeing the replies "explaining" to the OP how there can be no pause function.

Just make it happen. Pause function is an important quality of life feature.

It is, especially when they come from people who think that server actually simulates something that can't be paused. Truth is, all NPC simulation is happening on the client and unless you are connected to other players, there is absolutely zero impact of all this simulation getting stopped the same way as if you just log off. FD just doesn't want us to feel better in Solo because of such quality of life things.

Absolutely NO pause.
Yes... I understand the utility of it. We can't pause real life so it would be nice to be able to pause the game when real life demands attention.
The argument that a "pause" feature for solo would have zero effect on open players is false. It would have a major effect when it comes to community goals where there is a leaderboard tracking contributions. Solo players already have the advantage of not having to compete in PvP. A pause feature would just give them that much more advantage. While the rest of us are forced to logout or exit a combat zone to take care of real world business the Solo player just gets to hit pause, use the restroom, grab a meal, check the mail and pick up exactly where they left off?
No thanks.
Before implementing a pause they need to implement separate open/solo/private reward tiers in community goals. Do that and then you can have your pause because THEN and only THEN will your pause have no effect on other players.

There is no pause function, so yeah if you are in mid combat that's tricky, but you can use like a tiny bit of time, to go to a safe place nearby, if in SC just slow down and drop into nowhere space, then you can log out. You can log out like everywhere, save and exit, just get a little away from combat.

A pause function would be nice. When solo, I don't think there is that much being handled by the server that would technically prevent the possibility of a pause function. Regarding goams and stuff, isn't your contribution taken into account only when you dock at the station? I believe while you are in space it doesn't affect the simulation. Anyway only the devs could say this for sure.

The argument about a pause being unfair to online players is ridiculous, I don't see how the ability to simply pause the game can improve your skills or results in any way, it's just a practical option. My god, I can't believe we're actually discussing the balancing of a pause option! What does it matter to you as an online player that someone, someowhere in the world, paused their solo game to take a toilet break?

There are already a lot of "unfair" things in ED, coming from the disparity of players' equipment : Hotas, speedpads, voice attack and its macros, head tracking... should we ban all these so people who don't have them don't say it's unfair because you're more efficient at completing community goals with those accessories?

Hey maybe that explains the judder we get sometimes... its someone trying to pause the simulation while I am in super cruise <GD&R>

You may be in your own instance but it is the one universe. Go away for a while and the orbits have changed, all sorts of things happening to the universe. If you were paused near a station, it would leave without you or ram into you, much worse.

That's a very good point actually, I hadn't thought about this particular issue...

Pause Button = Stop out of SC into normal space. Very easy. Can get back into SC quickly, and even ramp your speed up quickly. The best there is (currently), and really, does not need to change, once you know about it.

Good luck and Happy Hunting!

As others have said, SOLO is not offline. Other (NPC) ships you see and missions on bulletin boards is still shared with every other player no matter how they are playing.

I also think a pause in solo is much needed, but there are so many other things the game needs as much or more it makes it tough to choose what to fix first, so they generally don't fix things, just add more bugs. :)

No need for a pause button if you plan your time better

Bit of a silly/cutting comment!? So if the door bell goes, wouldn't a pause button be super useful? Or should you plan for that?

ps: Yes I know it's impossible to offer a pause option!

We have lives besides playing this game! Give us a real pause in solo! Every time i have to get up i have to save a game? this is ridiculous....Tell you what people....every time we "pause" the game and lose money because of it...submit a ticket under lost credits....that is what i will be doing.

That's a petty and abusive use of the ticketing system and will take resources away from legitimate issues. Like it or not, you bought and are playing an online game where everything is constantly in motion.
