Newcomer / Intro Empire vs Federation

Which faction would be worth working on?

I have read on reddit that Empire is good because dropships on the Federation side is worse than FDL, Clippers and Pythons

What are your thoughts?

When 1.3 comes along there will be more specific reasons why one might choose one power over another (I hope), and this (probably) will lead to a choice of one of the major factions over another.

Basically I think it depends on how you want to play the game. There is no right answer. You don't have to choose at all if you don't want to.

The specific advantages are the permits you get (none of which actually amount to a lot, frankly), and the availably of Major Faction specific ships. Right now the Clipper and Dropship require highish ranks in the Empire and Fed, and apparently the new ship the Imperial Courier will require a rank of Master in the Empire to be able to buy. It's a question of taste. I think the clipper and courier look cool, but there are plenty of ships to get.

I came to the Empire via a semi-RP. I play my Commander as one who is from the Federation but left to become an explorer, ending up more or less by accident in the "far south" of the Empire. So, when 1.3 comes along my plan is to support whichever power controls my Home System or is aligned with controlling Minor Faction. (That would be Vess Ring in Cao Gong and the Empire Party.) I think GalNet has mentioned the Empire Party being aligned with Aisling Duval, but we shall see.

It's good to be the bad guy..

Is the Empire bad? I don't know. DB compared Imperial Slavery to signing up for the army which I presume to mean is that, while its not exactly fun, its not totally horrid. Maybe.

I like some degree of amiguity and hope they don't make one side or the other totally evil.

My commander rationalizes away the things he doesn't like. "Imperial Slavery, well yes I suppose in an ideal world we wouldn't have it. All right, its just plain bad, but those slaves I transported... well, I just carried them, its not like I was the one forcing them into it. So its okay. Right... right... right....?"

Empire... Federation... Don't sacrifice your freedom to those sociopaths. Join the Alliance.

LOL..... I lost the Alliance sign up papers somewhere.....

BTW I've been researching on FDL but I can't seem to find which faction it belongs to...

Someone enlighten me please

Ya know, I thought about that as potentially some kind of middle ground. But they started to really hate me when I started trading slaves in their territory and now I'm pretty much shoot on sight...and I can't figure out how to fix it. :(

Hop into an Alliance system and do some bounty hunting in a RES. This should help to clean you up fairly quickly. Oh... and ah... stop trading slaves. You should be freeing these individuals not perpetuating this abhorrent practice.

Empire all the way!!! It is the only place you can get a discount on slaves. Half off because they are half rotten Lol. Let me just pack my Type 9 real quick! Sometimes when Fed or Alliance pilots try to chase me, I just open the cargo airlock & Watch the pilots try to avoid them, Before you know it I'm gone & still have some survivors to sale!

I think the clipper looks better than the dropship so if I had to pick one of the two, I would pick imperials. However I plan to work on Alliance rep - in the hopes that when they finally do get factions ships they get something even more cool.

Empire all the way. We are the most civilised and humane society in the galaxy. Imperial slavery is by far preferable to the slavery millions endure in the sweatshops of the federation. Imperial slaves get freed. Fed slaves don't. Also, we have prettier(and better) ships.

But the alliance is good too. Just a shame they don't have any ships or any real reason to choose them other RP.

Also don't forget about government types (this can be important to some folks):

Federation- supports democracy, heavily corrupt, extreme disparity; very much like America (I love my country but the gov't IS corrupt)

Empire- Dictatorship, low corruption on the surface (probably because gov't officials can get away with anything and are expected to do so), disparity not as wide as in Federation, legal indentured servitude; very much like Imperial Rome

Alliance- supports democracy, low corruption, more of a loose confederation than alliance (military ties are the strongest among its member states), disparity not a wide as in Federation; I suppose you could say its very much like the E.U. with less corruption, disparity, with the strongest bond being self defense.

I picked the Federation because that's where Sol is located. In most space games, I'm a hardcore Terran. I just hope that at some point I get to participate in a revolution to take out the corruption, disparity, and idiocy of the gov't officials.

And death to the emperor :D

I thought I would add my thoughts, I am a Lt Commander in the Federation and a Baron within the Imperial collectives, and am working my way up to at least Count. this way I get all the Free Planet passes that are on offer as well as being able to buy all the ship when I can afford them.
the nice thing is that I am friendly with both the Feds and Imperial parties......
It'll be a while until the get alliance sorted out with similar roles...but when they are ready I will get a few ranks within the alliance as well.
