Ha ha withnail, good luck with that! Seriously impressed by anyone who can run a marathon.

Speaking of which, I did a similar but only half crazy thing and enter the London Half-Marathon. Well, it's in London and does go down the Mall.

It is the Royal Parks half marathon on 12th October. Basically doing a second half to the other one I did in April. That one I managed to do in 2:00:10 and so want to knock off at least 10 seconds from that time.

I am raising money for the same charity again, a local group for children with special needs.

If you are able to give that would be great, if you are around hyde park that day come and say Hi, or just a 'good luck chap' will be most welcome.

Fancy a quick half?

Just a quick update - this thread seems to have died a death.
Everyone given up keeping fit or just too busy blasting away?

Anyway, I did the half marathon, beasting my target time of 2 hours.

Pretty pleased with that, it was a lovely day, very well organised, very scenic and the crowds were awesome. I would highly recommend it.

Nice on beating your target in the half marathon, always feels good to be back to a fitness peak(if i remember rightly you were like me with the odd injury every so often?)

Well am not doing bad, just about out of a years worth of odd injuries myself and feeling very fit, managed to keep weight down!

Still here, plodding on with the weight loss journey. Been a bit slow over the summer with my weight on a plateau most of the time, but finally starting to move downward again. Just got back from a few days on Lancaster Canal in a narrowboat at the weekend and pleased to find I'd lost 2 lbs over the last 2 weeks tonight when I went to my regular Weight Watchers meeting. :D LOL had to split WW into 2 separate words, forums didn't like the single word...... :)

Thanks LG. Yeah I had some IT band problems earlier in the year. I took some time off over the summer and found it hard getting back in but now seem fitter than ever.

Well done Cmdr Flossy, plateaus are completely normal, remember weight is only one measure - if you are feeling healthier you probably are.

Losing weight had never been a goal for me but you prompted me to go check and it does look like I have lost some. Down to 12st10, when I last checked a few months ago I was just over 13st.

Probably partly due to an unoffical "Go Sober for October". I am not actually taking part in that but it did prompt us to cut down this month to almost nothing. 3 individual drinks so far this month one wine and two bottles of beer. Believe me that is a massive drop.

It has surprised me actually how easy it was to do. I was drinking quite a lot of red wine - maybe a couple of glasses a night. It was partially because my wife wanted to cut down and partially because I had that race but have carried on since.

On top of giving up caffeine since about May time which I did cold turkey as well, I am running out of stimulants.

I am wondering if being fitter means my body is worried about the stimulants.

This time of year is always very busy at work so it will be a good test to see how well I do.

All the best everyone.

Thanks Majere. I am definitely feeling healthier than I have done for years and able to enjoy my retirement from work. :)

I also drink a lot less than I used to, though I sometimes have a glass of wine around tea-time or a short as a night-cap later in the evening, but a lot less drinking during the evening. I realised that most of the time I wasn't even tasting it if I was gaming at the same time, tending to drink 'on autopilot', so now I just have either fruit squash or some kind of sugar-free soft drink while I'm gaming.

Well done on completing the half-marathon in under 2 hours. :D

its been tough to get the walks done, but I am determined to never ever stop.

Weight is up, due to the stresses of recent months and once I move I can see me getting into the gym to suppliment my walks with some weights..

IM SOO Excited..

All the best everyone.

The not drinking bit resonates with me - I've spent the last couple of days convincing myself I'm not going to have any beer/alcohol tonight.

This will be the first Friday since about 2.5 years ago that has happened.

Had about three months off fitness stuff over the summer - got up to about 1.75 stones over what had been my best weight for years.

Given up on the stationery bike and have been back swimming daily Mon-fri for about 6 weeks, the membership includes a Swimtag which records what strokes you're doing, times etc. which is great.

Lost about .5 of the extra 1.75 stones so far but seem to have plateaued hence the beer quitting till I get back to my target..

Good luck to all my fellow fitness campaign commanders!

OK, so life kicked my bum! it did.

Moving home, gran had a stroke and the stress of it all gave me all I needed to give up on my health... and I regret it and also I needed it.

Time is now very tricky for me to find enough for a walk every night... but Im flipping going to damn well find it.

She's 94 and a victim of the Too Old To Waste Treatment on NHS Special.

She had a stroke and has lost core stability and her left leg is badly affected... having watched her work hard to regain her speech and limited use of her left hand, I was dismayed when they stopped physio.

Today a mere 3months later, she can almost fully use her left hand.. through her own exercise regime.

But alas the leg and core still haven't improved... from an independent 94 yo to being looked after in a care home... Life is hard.

Sorry to hear that, I hope she continues to improve.

I have been logging into Myfitness pal this year too, although my record keeping has been sporadic recently due to workload and our children coming down with various various illnesses.

I thought I was already a member of the group but will check!

Going Well so far 100% goals met for Calories and evening walks

ONWARDS To VICTORY!!! And blooming snowy and cold it was too..

HELP ME!!!!! I am struggling beyond struggle to stop gaining frickin weight....... 107kg and climbing.. I was 95kg last year and ok things got tougher in RL and food became a comfort, the walks an after thought........

How do I get my head back in the game, I just can't seem to motivate myself back to it!!

I feel your anguish!

I was doing fine last year till about November - swimming daily Mon-Fri got to the closst I've been to "buff" since the 80s.

Then a persistent cold cough stopped me - Christmas happened - and here we are in May maybe 2 stone heavier!

This is the key: "food became a comfort". You have to find another comfort and deal with the feelings that cause you to seek comfort. Then you can build a habit of healthy eating.

deal with the feelings that cause you to seek comfort.

My situation won't change, its a long long road... its my mindset that can change.... that's my challenge..
