Imperial Clipper good in combat?

Well I read somewhere a full combat equipped Clipper will take around 200MCr, FDL 120MCr and Python 100MCr I guess that was completely wrong then

Well, the total price of the ship depends on the base price for the ship's hull plus all modules, most of them A-grade usually. You might also want at least military armor for a combat oriented ship, which usually costs roughly as much as the hull.

So the FdL costs 50 mill + 50 mill for military armor, but only like 20 mill for all important modules, because it has only class 5 slots -> 120 mill + weapons
The Clipper costs only 20 mill + 20 mill for military armor, but like 90 mill for modules, because it needs mostly class 6 and 7 modules. -> 130 mill + weapons
The Python costs 50 mill + 50 mill for military armor and again like 100 mill for modules for mostly class 6 and 7 modules -> 200 mill + weapons

Please answer another foolish question: What is the reason that complete outfitting of the Clipper is way more expensive than completely outfitting FDL or Python? They are obviously more superior and expensive ships but cheaper in highend outfitting, what is the reason for that difference?

The main reason is that the clipper has a very inflated class for both shields and power, despite not producing very impressive values. Good values or not, high class = high price.

Yes that's wrong. A fully rigged python costs WAY more than 100MCr

Hey bros sorry for that foolish question but how is the Clippers combat performance? Considering the miserable maneuverability, positioning of hardpoints and type of hardpoints I just wondered wether that vessel is any good for fight (single/wing)

Thank you guys

It's not half as good as the Python.

I also can't wait for the great view from cockpit with that amazing canopy. Hopefully it is indeed as impressive as everyone so far promised

Don't let yourself get fooled by NPC Clippers... NPCs somehow manage to make it appear like a T9. In fact it's by far the fastest and most maneuverable of all the big ships. It pays its price for this though by having the weakest shields and worst hardpoint placement of all the big ships.

It's a formidable yet expensive (the A7 shields alone cost 50 mill) combat ship, though. Smashed countless Vulture commanders with it, who obviously underestimated the Clipper. It's especially useful as a pirate ship, because it's fast enough to run down (or outrun for that matter) almost any other ship and still has enough room for scooped up booty.

Sorry but the clipper is not that maneuverable. Yes it has the best pitch/yaw of the larger ships but it's vertical/lateral thrusters are arguably the worst in game.

As long as a 180 degree turn is done fast enough I will be okay with that and that kind of bad maneuverability was my expected problem

Just my opinion but I wouldn't spend a penny on any armour upgrades - far too costly and heavy. If you want to hang in and fight after your shileds go, I would instead take out all the cargo bays and fit Hull Reinforcement packs.

Well thanks to all nice CMDRs for help I only get one rank left before baron and can't wait for my new Clipper. See ya in space

Better:
why not fit multiple Shield Cell Banks?
you can run several together if you have the power and can take the heat
I turn them on/off as needed (in my Pyton though, sigh never find Imperial navy missions, stuck at Knight, sigh)
if you can't get the best ones, a pair of lesser ones firing together will do a good job, just the heat surge is an issue
it's better not to take hull damage at all! :p
