Odd that your poll has missed the most obvious person for the job in the Galaxy, Crown Prince Harry IS the rightfull heir to the throne as far as I can determine.

EDIT: Crown Prince Harry has not had a mention in the GalNET news as yet (unless i've missed it) but it is clearly stated in the FFE journals Circa 3251 that the Crown Prince is the 16th Heir to the throne.

References are in the Encyclopaedia Galactica

That's Harold Duval. Also, he lost his place as rightful heir when he was disinherited by the Emperor.

I think that the empire should remain different to the federation and that means that it needs to keep the poor out of malnutrition and in a productive state which most of the others want to abolish so I think that Zemina should be supported through force if need be as only she has the will and power to keep the empire strong and prosperous.
A military coup would also be an interesting game to play out but it is up to us as commanders to support her.

Thats sounds plausable, do you have any reference for that ? I may need to update the Encyclopaedia.

Yeah if you read through that report that I linked into the initial report, it includes the original GALNET news story date where that aired. (It's in Harold's profile as well as the appendix)

That was on december 19th. Unfortunately, Galnet doesn't date back that far, but here it is from the Google cache version:

The sick Emperor Hengist Duval has managed to appear in the Senate, albeit in a travel chair, to issue a decree.

He decreed Harold, his son, not of sound mind. This gives some credence to the claim in the more scurrilous news feeds a year ago that Hengist once referred to his son in not very regal terms in private.

'The little idiot is utterly bonkers. He couldn't find his own bottom with both hands.'

This was of course, denied. This decree, as commentators have been quick to point out, means there is no clear successor to the throne. Unusually the event was excluded from newscasts, but those present said he looked frail.

Whatever happened to Prince Hesketh, Hephaesteus, Horsa, Horus, Herald, Haemon, Huang-ti Hierophant, Henry, Harrald, Hildegard, Honolulu, Helpme, Hinda, Haardvaark, H'tino, Heng, Han, Hal, Hyped-up, Honorific, Harpy, Hester, Heliphant, Hantioch, Hissele, Homan, Hetsan, Hithere, Holdon, Hafgan, Hinquebuss, Havid, Haggy, Hjon, Hran, Hike, Horo, Hebat, Hannibal, Hrist, Happy, Holographic, Hunab-ku, Hermes Duval the Seventeenth?

As long as Ravescene Memorial remains in one piece in the Futhark system, then I'll be up for whatever.

Whatever happened to Prince Hesketh, Hephaesteus, Horsa, Horus, Herald, Haemon, Huang-ti Hierophant, Henry, Harrald, Hildegard, Honolulu, Helpme, Hinda, Haardvaark, H'tino, Heng, Han, Hal, Hyped-up, Honorific, Harpy, Hester, Heliphant, Hantioch, Hissele, Homan, Hetsan, Hithere, Holdon, Hafgan, Hinquebuss, Havid, Haggy, Hjon, Hran, Hike, Horo, Hebat, Hannibal, Hrist, Happy, Holographic, Hunab-ku, Hermes Duval the Seventeenth?

... Of Ulm? :D

I voted Patreus, even though I don't want him technically on the throne. I'd like to see him as the power behind the throne with a Duval Emperor or Empress. I favor an expansionist policy and eventual war with the Federation, so he's the obvious choice.

I wonder if the results would be significantly different if the poll asked "who do you support" vs "who do you want to see on the throne."

Well i believe the Empire needs someone really strong in the succession. And Denton Patreus seems like the only strong witted guy. Yes he may be a bit suicidal, but the others would just loose control over the Empire.

Not a Duval. He'd make a good First Minister.

Can someone find the Galnet where Torval was talking about Lavigny? She said something about lineage there, I recall but I can't find the article myself.

Loren of course. One that has the guts to trample through Sol and still manages to get liked for it simply has to rule. I strongly suppose that's why she's been summoned to Achenar.

That, my friend, is the real question ;)

I miss RiG.

Her quotation is in the docket I linked in with the first post :)

"“All this in-fighting over the succession is unseemly. I have at least as much Imperial blood as that Arissa Lavigny woman and you don’t see me clamouring for the throne. Any fool can change their name to Duval, but it makes no difference. I may disagree with Senator Patreus on many things but he is right on this matter. We must do what is best for our beloved Empire. Not glory for an individual. In the absence of a clear well-prepared successor, the throne should go to the Senator most popular with the Citizens, and like it or not that is currently Patreus.”

It seems to me that the current Emperor ended his own line when he disinherited his son. I don't even know if that's actually legal but it certainly is the cause of our current dilemma.
Either the blood runs true or it doesn't, either tradition holds or it breaks. Harold should be Emperor if we adhere to tradition or, if it transpires that the House of Duval has ended, then Patreus should take the throne. He is a true scion of the Imperial ideal and would lead it to even greater glory (except maybe in hair styling).
Civil war isn't yet a reality and we are already split and spilling each others blood into the void. Just look at the recent conflicts in Volungu and Quivira. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better, if it even does. I fear that the Empire as we know it has reached it's zenith and we are about to see two or three, maybe even more, smaller collectives of it's previous majesty all claiming validity.
edit: sorry, forgot to say, I voted Patreus.
