How long will it take to make it to Elite status and do we get a badge?

The new system is much more sophisticated, to the point where I wonder if everyone (including me) can get to Elite as they could under the old grind-based system ... it just took time. What if Elite status is only achievable by the very best 1% or 5% of players?

If there's doubt about whether it's even achievable, there has to be doubt about the expected "time to Elite". So I don't believe the question is answerable at the moment.

So is ED now an MMO and Elite status the end goal?

And if Elite is very rare and hard to achieve how much would people be willing to pay to purchase an Elite status account on Ebay, and would you buy Elitness?

Hello Arowx.

It will take four years, three months, nineteen days, fifteen hours, thirty four minutes and twenty seven seconds to reach Elite status. However, that is if you start to play on a Monday afternoon at precisely 3pm and play every day for 47 minutes and have Frosties for your breakfast. If you have Cornflakes for your breakfast instead, then it will take significantly longer.

That's the best that I can come up with I'm afraid. Maybe someone else can help out here......

p.s. You may get a badge out of the Frosties box but there is no guarantee I'm afraid.

What happens if you have shredded wheat for breakfast? ;)

Buying an account with a huge well equipped ship would to me be missing the whole point and fun of the game like in the original. I still remember the joy of purchasing docking computers or an ECM unit in the original. It was hard earned and rewarding.

If you’d be paying to get ahead all you end up with is all the kit but no skill to use it. Lets face it getting to Elite first means nothing, it’s a journey to enjoy. If Tom, and Harry are Elite and have silly Armed ships good for them as they have probably played 24/7 to get there. I will enjoy looking at the ships while giving them a wide berth if I'm much lower having played half the hours.

This raises another question will Elite status be able to be lost due to higher skill levels achieving the rating. Will you have to keep improving and playing smart to keep yourself up there. I can see nothing wrong with an Elite pilot being cut down again and again by entering a part of space where the skill level is higher and things less forgiving and the player dropping a level. I’m sure they will have expanded the old school POOR, AVERAGE, ABOVE AVERAGE, COMPETENT, DANGEROUS, then DEADLY. And at last ELITE. Plus the added mix of your legal status into the mix.

I expect that FD can continuously tweak the requirements to get to Elite for quite a while before anyone even gets to Deadly.

Is there a 'race' on to make it to Elite and do early big backers have an unfair advantage?

As long as they don't bow to the 'Aspergers kids' and give us ACHIEVEMENTS in game, I'll be happy, badge or no badge :D

Your movements will be more regular?

Does that mean you'll always be travelling between Lave and Diso rather than anywhere and everywhere? I think I'll stick to Frosties... They're Grrrrrrrreat apparently... :D

(Wonder how confusing some of this would be to non-UK domiciles... ;))

Not sure how long it will take yet, but if it's like previous Elite/Frontier games it's not something that can be done easily. A badge would be nice, and perhaps the elite uniform described in the first novel The Dark Wheel.

As for an unfair advantage, yes, I think early testers will have a bit of an edge come release as they know how various ships and equipement will handle and what the npcs will be like. Befriending some alpha/beta testers might be a good idea if you want a faster learning curve during release. Otherwise, enjoy it slowly in all it's entirety.

Shok.

Yes, Frosties have a picture of a tiger on the box were Cornflakes have a picture of a chicken.

Which one is the scariest? This is why you have an advantage if you eat Frosties rather than Cornflakes. People will be scared of you. Honestly!

RE: Tiger scarier than chickens...

Obviously you've never been to Key West or Tijuana  Crazy killer chickens everywhere!!

Elite status can be achieved not only through combat.
Original Elite indeed had a badge you could send for if you got to Elite status and there has been much clamour for a return of this.

Wrong. Elite status can be achieved via alternate routes, see http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6279

Becoming Elite - Ratings

The “Elite” rating is a combat rating based on the number of successful pirate kills by a pilot. To get this rating requires a great deal of dedication. Additional routes to an “Elite” rating and that coveted membership were introduced in 3290.
Three new possible “Elite” rankings, in addition to the combat effectiveness rating (still based on number of kills using a player rating and ship formula) now cover new key areas:
Wealth: profit over accumulated net worth (though both values are taken into account)
Influence: based on contacts and successful negotiations or diplomacy.
Knowledge: acquisition of data, particularly through exploration.

Yes I want one of those :)

There will be several levels of Elite in ED. Elite Dangerous, Elite Deadly, and Elite. it would be nice that the ultimate level of Elite is very difficult to achieve. It is necessary that this title retains its value

I would like to point it out that after you will get to the Elite level, you will get special Elite missions and special Elite points for completing them. It is essentially 'end game content'.

As said Liqua, Elite is not the end but the beginning. In addition, the founding members of the Elite will have already some of the special missions

Fast forward to 2020... 6 years after ED is released.

A new guy has just purchased ED, and logged in for the first time. He is in awe at the "starter planet" with so many players flying so many different ships!

And... almost all of them ELITE rating. It has got to be at least a little intimidating to be honest. Imagine you're a level 1 character logging into an MMO for the first time and you see everybody around you in fantastic gear and lvl 200.

We'll all get there one day.. I'm content to enjoy the journey there. I plan on exploring new frontiers tho... heading out into the wild yonder and opening up new trade routes to unknown civilizations and purple aliens. It may truly be YEARS before I'm ever back in the "core worlds".

What I think is that when I do reach ELITE rating (or even before I do), I might just hang out at core worlds and help newcomers get to grips with the game if I get tired of exploration.

EDIT - sorry if this post seems off-topic. Everybody's just seeing ELITE rating as the "end". I just see it as a statement of how long you've been playing. Even if ELITE rating is still based on kills, eventually everyone will have killed enough to be rated ELITE. All it takes is time, not necessarily skills.
