The Powers are almost complete the FEDERATION (PC) and EMPIRE (Mac) we now have to wait for the Aliance (of console gamers) and we can have our little war
May I assume this means Steamplay? Because the wording of that sentence makes it sound as if it were a separate purchase, which you certainly don't mean since both version are included in the official store, too.
Because the Mac clients will now connect to the same galaxy servers as the Windows clients, and to do that, they need to disconnect everyone.
What?! I just got on! Darn editors playing elite on their macs!
Following the release I will go to the starter system and pull over the newbies and ask which OS they're running the game on.
The ones that reply Mac will get "YOU DID THIS!" and face summary destruction.

Sounds like my brain incorrectly assumed the message was the same as last @EliteDangerous tweet which didn't mention steam. My bad.

I've been playing on the mac beta and have been looking forward to this for a while now
Quick question though, I've just updated the client-installer, and i appreciate we're still in the maintenance window - however the message i'm seeing is "You do not have access to download this game" - is that expected, or should I lodge a ticket?

A lot of that might actually be old meat in a fresh package.
I'm Wintel, but I'm curious... Do you get to keep your commander's progress when you shift from Windows to Mac?

I'd imagine yes, because you'd still be logging into the game with your existing account.
Your commander/save is tied to your account and saved on their servers. Shouldn't matter if you log on on Win or Mac.
