Pad Hogging

I've just spent about 10 minutes in Open, trying to dock at an outpost....

You guessed, there was a Type 6 sitting on the only "M" pad. I tried a number of messages, but with no response to any of them, I ended up logging out & docked in Solo - well I didn't want to lose the bounty.

So - a plea for everyone:- If you are away from the keyboard for any length of time, please save and exit. Obviously, real-life emergencies may take priority, but as a rule, don't hang about!

And one question, can I gently remove the said pad blocker by gentle application of a nudge or two? it was an outpost, so no massive defences, just a fine and I was really tempted...

Or you could just go to solo, or spawn a new station instance... first come first serve. Sometimes I sit on the pad looking at trade routes, read galnet, etc.

It was always something that was mentioned right from the start - the station might be full so you have to wait or go elsewhere.

Of course it is much easier to be happy when you are sitting on the pad reading Galnet, but it becomes a bit of a crisis when you canopy has been shot out and you are coming in hot with only 1 minute of Oxygen left!

Yes,
I know that I trade, plan routes, read Galnet, comfort break, but after 10 minutes with polite messages I'd still had no response - even a "soon " response would have worked (ie the Cmdr was still alive)...

I ended up save/restart in solo, then docked, saved & back to open...

Cheers

Colin

I think it was also mentioned that other ships sitting on the pad out in the open could be vulnerable to, um, "nudging." ;) ;)

This is why I keep a golf club in my car when I go to the mall. Never know when you'll come across some jerk just chilling in his car in a full car park.

Should be a timer on outposts with traffic and an actual queue. If someone else requests permission to dock, a countdown should start, and when it's up, the station launches your ship for you.

This requires quite a bit of hassle and breaks wings and such.

Hogging the pad at an outpost in Open, especially if it's the only one, is just inconsiderate.

I wonder what would happen if you targeted them with all weapons...

Nothing happens to them, you become wanted, and the station tries to shoot you down.

It's the only way to propery blocade and is legitimate gameplay. :)

It's exactly as legitimate as habitual in-station ramming.

These are holes in AI procedure that need to be plugged.

How does hangar space work in stations?.. I've never gotten the hang of that.. is the pad freed up if you enter hangar?.. So long ago since I last docked at a station... I can't remember anything about it!.. :)

I don't think so, otherwise you'd have problems with people trying to launch at the same time.

The hanger is linked to the pad, ships cannot land if you are inside the hanger.

edit- Devs mentioned they would add outposts with more pads (including large pads) did they ditch that idea?

Ships are invulnerable while on the docking pad. Until they click the launch button and are released from the pad, nothing can damage them--including "nudging".

Oh that's a shame. I so want to inform another ship on an occupied pad to finish their business quickly, by giving them a polite tap on the shoulder with a plasma accelerator. :D

From a gameplay perspective, I never understood why you do not automatically enter the hangar after docking (anyway, you do need to enter, 180° turn, then go back to surface to launch). This would free up the pad and allowing another guy to land and go to the hangar (who cares if, realistically, there could be only one hangar slot per pad, gameplay is more important than lore).

Then when a ship launches, seen from the outside it would either do the full animation if nobody requested to land (if so, at that time you would get the "docking denied") or, if a request to land is already ongoing, you would simply spawn outside of the station (as it happens sometimes due to lag and nobody complains much about that) while from the inside of your ship you would not notice any difference.

A bit hard to understand I know but short story: there are many ways to resolve that as long as you put the gameplay before the lore.
Also, instead of "docking denied", you should be put into a queue...

While doing Diso CG, I had to switch to solo many times due to some player holding the M pad and not responding.
