3 fire buttons?

But what about the console players!!! ;)

Who cares about console gamers. PC gamers aren't limited to 2 thumbs and 2 fingers, acting like they are remotely controlling a little RC vehicle with their console controllers. Would be nice to not have to toggle through loadouts when the load out is nothing more than switching button controls, and not actually switching load outs. But when FD figures that out......probably not.... we should see buttons for what we need rather than what the console controller can handle. They making this game for PC players or console players?

you guys are not looking hard enough in the key binding slot there are dedicated buttons u can do for chaf and heat sinks. i would like the ability to have as many fire buttons as i wish really should not be an issue the console player will only get two but hay he made his choice when he bought a counsel, why should we all have to limited to there lowest spec, i mean are the 2 version going to be online in the same universe fighting against each other ? pc vrs console players is it going to happen?

Jimmy OUT!!!

My vote goes to having more triggers. Some fighter craft are loaded with triggers, so I don't buy the argument that it's based on the military. The RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) handles all those triggers while the pilot flies the kite. That Other Space Game has a RIO, but the second seat in the ED cockpit is just for show.

That being said, I already know my vote counts for bupkis.

I have had upto 6 fire groups before now

If I had a fire button for each firegroup and a key for each module to turn them on and off as suggested in another thread I would need to be from Glasgow so I could use the extra fingers on each hand from my mum marrying my cousin

This keeps coming up, and Michael has said that it's a deliberate design decision (modelled after military aircraft), and that there is no intention to change it.

If we're going to talk about thing that keep coming up, and are modelled after military aircraft, can I get a decent HUD please, with flight path indicator, target aspect, closure and decent weapon range info up front? ;) (Sorry I'll get my coat...)

I'll make sure to include the sarcasm tag next time.

Good call. I thought they did add some more, but haven't played in months. FD wanted to finish the PC version and not dumb it down before they went console, and we all bought into it during the startup based on that premise (no console crap). Now we have nothing but.

Looks like ED turned into dumbed down stupid console peasants game. 4 firegroups or bust. Why the hell do we even have hotas when we have console lvl 2 firegroups. I don't need stupid hud for 2 more firegroups, just allow me to shoot it. Or if anything small number somewhere in corner would do too.

<facepalm> sorry, but it is. :)

Nah. Such a setup would offer the most control and granularity. No ship has over eight weapons, and I've used as many triggers without issue in other games.

Nothing would force anyone to map more triggers than they were comfortable with.

+1 for extra fire button

When I first set up fire groups, I was like 'wait there are only two fire buttons'?

Not sure if you are aware but the ps4 has 14 buttons on it... Welcome to next gen mr 1984 :p

The ps4 pad has no more buttons than the first ps1 analogue pad (2 triggers, 2 shoulder buttons, start, select, 4 fire button, 1 button on each analogue stick on pressing it down, and a 4 way d-pad, which is 16 by my count). It does have that touchpad though.

The devs have said it won't happen. The whole system and hud is designed around two fire groups.

Firegroups arent the same as fire buttons. You could still have 2 firegoups, but have 3 weapons within each firegroup, each with its own fire button.

I would like that, or possibly even better, the ability to map individual weapons to keys as well as putting them in a fire group, like you can with the chaff launcher, shield cell etc.

I did at first think it'd be nice to have more fire buttons but now it would just seem lazy, I've got used to switching fire groups during a fight and now I'd say having to do so adds to the combat experience.

Correct use of a game pad could allow up to 4 fire buttons, using an alt-button and two triggers. Hells, I could have 6 if i used my other alt-button.
I actually don't make full use of my game pad because of the lack of need for more than the analogue sticks and the triggers. Everything else is run via Voice Attack. Console players? Well, the Xbone has Kinect which has integral voice recognition, and therefore could work without even needing to buy voice attack or similar. I would greatly love to have more trigger inputs for the game (since you can remap the two triggers to any button you want already, no-one is forced to JUST use the triggers on the gamepad).

For me its a simple mapping of the keyboard
.
PGup - Fire group -1
PGDn - Fire group +1

2 keys on the RHS of a separated section of 6 keys, very easy to see and identify and even find by touch alone

Setting up a Keyboard and stick layout is key part of this game and shouldn't be underestimated

I haven't tried it, but maybe you could use a 3rd-party keybinding app which basically binds a key to "switch to next weapon group, press secondary fire, then switch to previous weapon group"? That should allow you to launch a missile without interrupting your other attacks for more than a moment.

In short, I think there should at least be three. In a ship like an Anaconda with 8 hardpoints it'd be nice to be able to use missiles, lasers, plasma and cannons all in one loadout (For example). Right now that's just inconvenient and it results in less varied builds.

This aircraft

uses this stick

Many of us use this stick

It can be loaded with cannon mavericks bombs Laser bombs sidewinders laser pods and so on - if its inconvienent why the hell didn't the military design the stick better
