So what's up with the Imperial Courier?

The last two newsletters we had to chance to take a look at the Imperial Courier. So my questions are:
1) Will we fly it in 1.3?
2) What type of ship is it: multi-purpose, heavy fighter, explorer?
1 - I wouldnt bet against it
2 - If anything like it was in Elite Frontier, armed fast transport / multipurpose.

I really hope they'll make it an exploratory ship. The ships for exploration between the ASP and Anaconda are nonexistent.
We really don't need yet another pew pew vessel for now.

My guess is x3 medium hardpoints; 25ly fully upgraded; a little more agile than a Cobra, but a fair bit faster; same fuel capacity as Cobra; 1 higher class rank for shields, better hull-- like a German-built Cobra, about 4 million in price.

if i alligned with the imperial crew to get that ship,

would i be able to reset my reputation, and still be able to fly it?

I have a sneaking suspicion that the Imperial Courier will be a smaller version of the Imperial Clipper.

In Frontier, the Courier was a smaller version of the Imperial Trader and if you turn on the verbose logging in your game client read the netlog, the clipper in ED is referred to as "Empire_Trader". Having said that, the original Courier had two engines whilst the Trader had three, so maybe I'm wrong and we're still going to get another, bigger ship later :)

Ahah yeah you are right, but the ship does not look very big. It feels smaller than a T6 or than an ASP. Would that indicate, like the Clipper, that it cannot hold as much as a T6 and cannot jump as far as an ASP? :(
BTW I hope we will know soon: I'm to leave for exploration in a week or so, a courier could be great instead of an ASP.

*By comparing the size it could be a kind of "Imperial Cobra", but maybe a bit faster as it is an Imperial ship?
I recently bought a Vulture and although it's a great ship I don't feel comfortable with the current options for fast combat: the Vulture is powerful but is far from being as nippy as my lovely Viper. On the other hand the Viper does not do much damage with its dual C2 (not to mention the dual C1). I would love to see a ship that we could use as a "super Viper".

Imperial Cobra class is my guess as well.... faster but similiar weapons

It's a guess... like everyone else :)

My guess....
4 medium hard points.
Capable of asp like jump ranges with plenty of fuel.
Very fast boost speed.
Cargo in long range configuration around the 75 mark.
Compromises in terms of shields and weapons balancing.

Hit and run.

My thoughts are 12-14 million Credit, 4 Med HardPoints - or possibly 1 Class three below Fuselage, 1 class two above and behind canopy, and 2 or 4 class one on the outer nacelles, 40 tons when in a solid Combat Setup, 80 tons in full trader mode, big point is extensive range rivaling Asp, as it is a courier, with maneuverability speed and boost near Cobra levels. Shields will probably be down similar to the clipper but the armor strong. I think of this as a sniper with excellent range. Should have NO limitation regarding fuel scoop. A courier should be, in my estimation, a long distance traveler. Something above Asp (my current favorite multipurpose) but below clipper. Hoping it is more than an Imperial Vulture.

Thought I read where someone suggested/asked if an Empire rank of Master would be enough to get the Courier, to which the FD rep replied 'That sounds about right.' That is as I read it in the Q and A (or whatever it is called by FD) on the 1.3 announcement day.

Cheers

I'm hoping that it's a runner ship. Some small internal compartments, NO hardpoints, and a bigass thruster/FSD. Think class 5 on something the size of a Vulture. 50 LY max jump range? Very yes.

It's going to be just what it says it is... a courier. It has been designed to deliver you to a given destination and then return back to base or any other location on it's own. This will finally solve buying and selling haulers just to move your fleet around.

Long overdue.

As long as its engines sound as good as the clipper's do, I'm gonna take it for a spin. And maybe switch to it from the clipper. There's just something satisfying about flying a small, nimble ship that does all that you want, without needing a docking computer ^^

That thing is NOT an imperial courier. Go back and look at the original design and give it a bigger wing span. Whoever the designer is should show some respect

I agree. Design-wise the outsides of the Imp Clipper are a bit of a let-down compared to the good ol' Courier. But not too bad. And there's certainly a hurtful bit of difference between the old and new Courier.

The Courier was a fairly mid-sized, 350 ton ship. That's about six Cobras. The largest was the Panther Clipper with 2000.

I too expect it to be reasonably well-armed (not like the FdL but more than the T6 which it'll probably match in size) and quite fast - the old one matched the Cobra Mk I in acceleration.

In Frontier the Courier's wings retracted when landing. Could it be that we haven't seen it with the wings extended yet...?
