I would instantly pay 500$ if Frontier would...

Clearing your save yourself after death is even more simple.

Missing the point that with a dedicated mode you are playing exclusively with/against other players obeying that rule set. That single factor affects how people play the game in significant ways. I also am rather disappointed that Iron Man has not materialised and that FD have said not a word about it since the game launched.

I don't have those amounts of money lying around for something like that.
I also am not interested in permanent death. It would be too time consuming to build up to something.

I would be willing to pay a bit extra for a fully functional off line feature though.

Leaving aside the macho 'for men' thing, an ironman mode would be good simply because players might be more inclined to disengage from combat and behave 'realistically' if there is a lot to loose, rather than constantly fighting to the death without concern because 'hey, I've still got enough to rebuy this Anaconda 10x over'. However, that would probably then lead to people 'griefing' others using sidewinders as suicide ships wherever possible. This is why we can't have nice things...

OP: oh boy, to have that in-game, would I pay $500, you bet I... wouldn't.

No sorry..

Put a lot more than that into SC and I'm regretting most of that... Not because of SC or indeed the money. But I bought Space Engineers (£14.99) a while back and now I have a little over 600hrs in it. Enjoying every minute for a very low cost.. Just goes to show.. ;)
Big money, doesn't always mean good gaming. Or indeed, gaming at all, in SC's case. :p

As always, when IronMan comes up, I like to point out my own variation on it. Currently you really only have two choices - you always eject safely (in which case the only possible bad repercussion is lack of insurance) or you never eject (wipe save on destruction every time).

Naturally this doesn't appeal to some, since even playing IronMan in previous games you could buy an escape pod to use in hopeless situations. And why have an ejection seat if it never works?

In the spirit of compromise and keeping an element of risk and thrill to the game, I came up with the Pilot Ejection Table, which takes into account the circumstances of where you ejected and under what circumstances to give you a more immersive feel. Ejected just outside the station? You're probably going to be fine. Ejected after crashing into a neutron star a thousand light years away? Er...not so much.

Check it out and see if it's your thing too :)

I'd never play there but I'd be nice to have that option for those who want it. Don't really see any harm in it if you're not forced to play there.

I'd rather see the game become more challenging, than more punishing.

Right now, the only actual dangers seem to be fickle, badly balanced quirks, like being murdered for parking violations, or because your turret splashed the police for a split second, or someone "friendly" rammed you. This does not make me want to even entertain the idea of perma-death; to lose all your progress because the game farted is not appealing.

If the game's galaxy was actually filled with interesting, deadly things... like anarchy systems that were actually anarchic, and hidden pirate bases covered in automated defences, or uncharted mine fields, or asteroids that actually moved... then maybe perma-death would mean something.

this 1000 times

I would pay my $60.00 over again for a completely rebooted, fresh galaxy (not the Milky Way) to explore.

I would pay my $60.00 over again for a solo game with adjustable NPC difficulty levels (in other words, the offline game). No other players, just the AI reacting.

Neither of these options are likely to occur.

I'd probably pay some if they just let us create our own servers with our own rules. But not upfront because I got burned with these people once :)

I created an account to just say i would absolutely play this mode exclusively.

(Rant incoming NOT DIRECTED at anyone here but gaming writ large)

It gets really tiring seeing people whine and cry about "permadeath" modes, in every game they are suggested in. You people who don't understand or don't value the ideals surrounding a hardcore roguelike/permadeath concept, have an INFINITE number of options available to you. Games constantly cater to you.

I was looking at a forum argument wherein one player suggested farcry 4 was too easy, needed a permadeath mode or some harder setting to provide anything for that particular player.

The thread was just constantly people posting/saying things like "SO WHAT? I'M SUPPOSED TO GET SHOT AND LOSE ALL MY GUNS. . LEAVE!"

...and no matter how many times its pointed out to them that the mode would be SEPARATE and could even be BURIED in an options menu somewhere so they wouldnt even know about it, they would still seem aggrieved by its existence...

"I paid 60 dollars i don't want my being taken away form me just because the games glitchy and broken. Bull. I paid for the FULL GAME. Not parts of it."

Its really irritating, not only have games seemingly become the past time of bloody children :) (i mean how many times do you need to feel like the most amazing powerful thing in the universe?) any mere suggestion a game should tip a courteous nod in the direction of the hardcore (and i don't mean COD) is met with such venom that it seems to dissuade developers. I find it outrageous, that they don't want options to cater for others. In bioshock infinite 1999 mode apparently had to be sold as a "cheat code" to gamers. I assume its because people would whine if the game didn't roll over for them even on a self described "old school extreme difficulty" setting. So it was shoved away hidden from their eyes, so we could hunt it down but they'd be none the wiser.

In this case... Why the would anyone who plays Elite care if there is another server running permadeath? THEY LITERALLY WOULDN'T KNOW UNLESS TOLD.

I personally reject the notion off the bat, that your time in a game is A) worth anything to anyone but yourself. B) Made redundant by any form of loss (life anyone?) C) Designed to "reward" you. I mean what is even the reward besides the experience? The experience can be enriched for some by providing weighty consequences. Personally i think it enriches a games experience to no end. Providing consequence provides value/meaning ESPECIALLY if you haven't much time like i don't, your able to extract some sense of meaning and value out of a short play session. Self discipline and self determining goals. In permadeath mode landing the ship and making some money feels like an achievement... Can you imagine the respect and admiration you'd feel for a commander flying a high end ship? Knowing hes actually survived til now??? Can you imagine how terrifying being interdicted by him would be..?

But most importantly....

Permadeath ENCOURAGES GOOD GAME DESIGN. Jesus. Its a crutch. If you cant make the systems interact satisfyingly without pinning a gold star on things (loook at mobile games) then the game is probably not that fun. Im not talking about elite here just the state of gaming in general. Honestly the more i play games without these principals the more i feel like a labrat being tricked into spending my money. I would much rather a dark nasty galaxy, that could me over at the drop of a hat. "Oh on this character i managed to get enough to buy a cool ship only to die fighting pirates" is a story, with a begining middle and END.

Not just an everlasting first to second act.

Why don't you play call of duty or any number of mainline releases. They all cater to "progression". Ludicrous notion. All loss does is emphasise value, which thereby enriches the experience.

Those who say "its a game! i want it to pat my back for every step i take, and i wamnt to feel powerful" i understand that. Nobody is taking that away from you.

There will just be a separate instance of play, wherein everyone's character is permadeath. Meaning that fifteen minute drawn out battle in which i put an end to that pirate, means hes actually gone from our universe. (it would need an hour ban form relogging onto that server) The end result would be likely that both of us would flee for our lives, instead of throwing down cos i wanna see splosions!

This would create a universe of believable interactions, and would push it into the "space Sim" we want.

You can STILL play the regular game. Why do you have to come into threads to try and dissuade developers from adding a mode like this. What are you afraid of? Losing something? Well dont play it then!

I think "completionists" find it hard to think theres an aspect of a game they arent interacting with. I mean honestly i dodnt even want Aachievemnets or anything, i just want to know the sidewinder thats running away is as panicked as me becasue hes going to LOSE the game. Remember? Gaming? Winning? Losing?

There are only winners in gaming now.

(I'm being a bit facetious btw, gaming has been a bit better recently catering to those who want more punishing experiences, however its really the mod communities that are rescuing allot of games for me, so PC is a diff world. But for a laugh and an illustration of my point go read peoples arguments against hardcore servers in rust. Entitled babies. Elites community seems a bit more interesting but i still see signs of irritation surroudning permadeath and hardcore.)

Questions.

Why do you care if theres a mode your not playing that others like?

Is it the terminology hardcore, that people object to? Is it by comparisoon making the regular mode "casual", therby insulting to players? Would it helpe if they called the mode "Insane morons who like throwing away progress cos were that dumb" mode?

Please frontier cater to the masochists out there. The game is so wonderful, it would just add another sweeet layer.

Sorry i didn't realise there was a swearing filter, there might be some missing words up there and i cant edit my post :(

So you would give $500 to be able to do something you already CAN (I'm referring to the 1st point).

Die = Quit the game forever. There you go. Now give ME the money. Or at least the $250...
