Planning to sell an expansion over an incomplete game is wrong!

Wow, that must be almost the biggest bible i´ve seen so far on the forum. Elite was fantastic in its days, E.D is better in all ways in these days, and will become even better with time. Halleluja :D

Did it not occur to you that it actually takes more effort to display a value as bars instead of just a number? Doesn't that suggest that it was a deliberate design decision to do it that way? You can disagree with it, but you can't call it a lack of thinking or development.
I don't mind the bars as an in-cockpit indication but I should be able to determine accurate power management numbers while purchasing items or sitting in the station and setting up fire groups. I should know that if I continuously fire my lasers they will require X Kj per second and will accumulate heat at a certain rate. For example I should be able to work out that with a certain configuration I can fire continuously for 10 seconds and then it requires an additional 10 seconds to fully recharge.
I don't think I can do that at the moment.

Raised some fair points/issues, and hope these things can be improved, but at this stage who is to say they will not be fixed by the time the first paid expansion comes out?

My computer cost about $1500, and sits on a desk I spent about $800 on, in a house that cost me quite a bit more than that. A $60 game I've gotten a solid 5 months (and counting) of play out of? Pff. What's not to like?

I got less play out of Metal Gear Solid Whatever (usually I burn through one of those in a couple days) and felt like I got every penny's worth of my entertainment dollar from them. And, for that matter, I've spent the same on a couple of movies and some pizza. I've even loved some games that won awards and critical praise, yet were unfinished: Shadow of Mordor, early versions of Everquest, early versions of World of Warcraft.

So many loooooong faces about ED. It's as if there's a bunch of people who really need to get a life.

Did I miss a press release or something? When did FDEV announce a release date for the first paid expansion? Oh, right, they didn't. So what's the OP's agenda here? Criticise FDEV for the state of the game if you like, even if it's tediously unoriginal criticism. A lot of us have done that. Having a go at the hardworking devs about something that you dreamed up, however - that's a bit much.

Planetary landings are a feature that will require a lot more effort than the entire game has to date, if they are to be delivered with anything like the graphical fidelity and solidity of even the existing content. I'm not sure it can be done, frankly, but I gambled my money to help fund future expansions. As a reward for some faith in their ability to deliver, I don't have to pay more for the expansions when they are released. Yay!

You seem to be expecting a feature, listed as a paid expansion before day one of development, to now be given away for free because you either didn't pay attention at the time or didn't want to pony up the dough. Yeah...no. Never gonna happen. Get over it.

Your whiny tone in the beginning is annoying.

The top #1 and #2 are just whining and wrong.

Almost all of the other points you bring up seem like accurate and fair criticism. Your suggestions are awesome too.

I'm sorry, but I have to go with the people who found your post hard to follow. And yes, it came across as borderline hysterical.
I will address one of your central points. "Planning to sell an expansion over an incomplete game is wrong.

Not always.

its not wrong when you talk about this during the planning, alpha and beta phases, so people become aware that this will be the case.
It is not wrong when you provide an option to buy an "all expansions included" copy of the game.
(yes, this was time-limited to early adopters. Should there still be a way to buy this? That's another debate)
It is not wrong when the "incomplete" game can be played for hundreds of hours vs complete games that are done in 20-30 hours of play. Remember that ED is huge in scope and allows for a hell of a lot to be done. Two major upgrades have added more features and we have aother one around the corner. I don't thinks its sensible to knock a dev. company for having a huge game and the common sense to say "here it is in its current playable state. There's more to come and we will release it as we can get it written."

Points to think about.

This is an MMO with no subscription fee and only sells cosmetic items.
There are costs associated with maintaining servers and creating content.

And, of course, Frontier is staffed by humans who need to eat and sleep and doing so often costs money. So employees need to be paid.
I'm pretty sure Frontier would love to give the game out for free, but only if they could still live in the comfort that they are used to.

I believe an argument can be made that Elite: Dangerous was released in a beta stage. It's a subjective argument, but a valid argument nonetheless.

But that's the landscape of gaming right now. How many other beta/alpha/pre-release games are out there, taking money from players that can only HOPE their money proves to be well spent sometime in the future? It feels like all of them.

My argument is that Elite has more POTENTIAL to be great than a lot of other up-and-coming titles, but that's another subjective argument.

Having played 1500+ hours of Elite: Dangerous, I already fell like I've got 10x my money's worth so what the hell do I care anyway ;)

OP is right in many respects, game is far from finished, still full of bugs, economy doesn't work and will never work the way he wants. Because the game is basically thousands of instances loaded one at a time as we got to an area, plus it's all procedural, so there's no way to let NPCs mine at res points and take them to stations etc. Because unless a human Player is there those areas don't actually exist in the game.

This game is still in beta, no denying that..... But that doesn't mean it's not a good game, Just a rushed game.

What should be in the game since it released "Day One" :

You know these things cost money, right? I'm guessing Frontier put up a lot of money relative to the Kickstarter, but here's a list of game budgets for you:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_video_games_to_develop

Take CoD, for example - Elite is a vastly more complex game than that. Look at Star Citizen - $82m and rising. GTA IV and Tomb Raider - $100m. Pretty sure that they didn't have anywhere near that budget for Elite, given that a lot of the functionality was based on stretch goals goals in Kickstarter.

Stop your whinging and just try to enjoy the game. There haven't been any paid expansions yet, so everything you've had so far is included in the original price. I'm not entirely sure what you're crying about here...

Yeah, not sure either. I love people complaining about things that have no basis in reality.

PS. I'm all for a game of kick FD every now and then when they deserve it. This isn't one of those times.

I do wish the trading aspect of the game was a bit deeper. You have a fair point there for sure. Does anyone know what kind of price to expect for this expansion? That detail will dictate whether I'm annoyed or not. (BTW is pi-ss-ed actually considered a swear word? Its filtering it out as if it is. Is this a British thing? Its certainly not considered offensive in the states)
