[VIDEO] Pheyes and Z4.MAFIA fight! Vulture vs Asp!

Another fun video dude! Thanks for sharing...I watched your VS Python as well. Looked like epic fun :)

You know if you un-target a ship using Chaff, your gimbled weapons stabalise and you can use them accurately as if fixed. When the chaff is over, re-target and continue as gimbled.

Also, I surprised not to see you sub-system targetting! That Python may not have got away if you took his drives out.

Great fun in any case! :D

Thanks for sharing commanders!

Great Fight. I personally would never use Cannons, but it's interesting to see, how they can be used.

Cheers

I'm glad you enjoyed the videos! And I'm fully aware that I have the capability to turn my gimballed cannons to fixed.

Some reasons why I chose not to do so in this battle:

1) Pheyes is one of the most slippery Vulture Pilots I've fought. Therefore, I felt there was too much risk involved wasting ammo firing them fixed.

2) By staying locked on target, I'm able to immediately fire once the chaff dissipates.

3) I didn't want to run the risk of not being able to reinitiate a lock and get a quick shot off in time before Pheyes slipped out of view.

Interesting video.

I give you that you have skill of course, but shield cells make all the difference.

Yeah, they make it even more interesting. Without them - pop the shield - there you go. GG. With them - there is extra element added - timing them, so that opponent won't have time or opportunity to successfully blast them or ram them. Extra layer of fun for PVP players. Are you a PVP player by any chance, Liqua?

Z4.Mafia, hats off to the fight. One of the best I've seen in ED yet. I think I even remember seeing commander Pheyes somewhere on top of the notorious pirate list.

Anyway, keep it up.

A happy subscriber. :)

The Asp is a six gun ship. You should be mixing in a bit of laser power. Pheyes was chaffing but moving predictably most of the fight, even a couple of small fixed beams would have made a lot of difference.

Yeah, but in a fight like this, where neither side has enough alpha-strike power to quickly knock down shields, it really is just a matter of whoever packed the most shield cells wins.

Vulture pilot: You put 0 pips in shields against a 6 cannon asp - you deserved to lose after a decision like that. The vulture has almost 50% better shielding than an asp. Use it.

Asp pilot: Good job using your asp's power advantage to its fullest capacity. Cannons have not awful single shot damage against shields, but do you not feel that a set up like that might benefit from a multicannon or two in your small hardpoints?

Cells prolong the inevitable that's for sure and indeed knowing how and when to use them can help differentiate one PvP player from another.

As for me - Playing in open kind of makes everyone a PvP player doesn't it ? :D That said, I don't go actively looking for fights - self imposed IM here : you kill me and I have to restart. (Commander #11 at the moment - 3 of them were at the hands of other players; most from mistakes - I blame my mouse )

Out of interest: If you took a ship with loads of hull armour to begin with and packed in hull reinforcers would that ship have a chance against a shield cell user ? You could then use all power for engines and weapons which (in theory) would make you move faster, boost more, and shoot for longer.

Z4.MAFIA, thanks for showing just how good the Asp can be in a fight. I get a fair amount of derision for flying mine, people call it the flying anvil and make cracks about it sucking in combat but I've always maintained that they just don't understand the ship. Thanks for proving me right.

In a fight like this, there is one commander with insane manoeuvrability, much stronger weapons, slightly better shields versus another commander with abundance of SCB and tons of kinetic weapons. The guy in a Vulture had a decent opportunity to quickly strip shields with his level 3 pulses (maybe a lil ram too!) and send ASP driver runnning for the exit. CMDR Pheyes just didn't get the chance to capitalize on his strengths. Take SCB's away from ASP and suddenly he is no competitor for Clippers, Vultures, Pythons and FDL's in one on one battles. Not sure if I'd like that.

Theoretically that could work in some scenarios, why not. There is a problem with severe loss of manoeuvrability though, if you make your ship that heavy.

That one deserves a handshake.

Good fight, man. When I saw the Vulture's shields collapse and he went on a last ditch offensive I found myself yelling at my monitor "He has the high ground, don't try it!"

I don't know how much practice you have in a vulture but I I had no pips in shields so I could shooting and boosting to keep out of his arc and those cannons do lots of damage, you should challenge him in a vulture and see how well you do, I am going to bet you actually don't do that well.

i did that in no shields full armor loadout on a cobra and found that if flown properly it can be a valid setup, on the other hand it is so very not forgiving for mistakes as you have all your modules exposed. my biggest mistake was to get close to vultures, as even in silent running they could lock onto me = game over for cobra :D
on the other hand as soon as i stripped down shields of enemy ship it usually took one or two rams to finish the job as my hull integrity was insanely fortified with armor plating.
