Apparently ever increasing numbers of NPCs in an instance is a side-effect of players wing-beacon trading. New players arrive, NPCs are generated - but there are players static for hours and the NPCs don't phase out as an instance empties because it's never empty.

we can put on that the many npc's that stay floating on pads and go destroyed lol

Shame there isn't a mission to clear out the NPCs - with as much firepower as one can muster.
That would be so much fun, lol :)

after equipping my ship and some weapon testing, i'm back to solo (or to be honest, completely offline).
nothing to be seen in open... i'll keep going there for appointments though.

can't play at the moment... one less to shoot *g*

Edit: This just sounds like one of the "I'm here, come and get me" posts i did in Beta ;)

I was thinking the same thing :)

- - - Updated - - -

Not quite a "come get me" - but if anyone wants to check I am currently in Open, they can. Heck same name in game, so people could just friend me and see.

All on my own in the CZ.... but I don't want to be in here anyway, I wont earn as much in here as I do in Solo/Group... so I'd better go do something else ;)
Off to get my T6 out and do a rares run, I'm assuming they are still worth the same in Open mode? :D

Rofl, do let me know if the prices are the same, sorry rep button still broken:)

Just docked at George Lucas station in Leesti. SC was empty and working fine, about 8 people in the station instance I'm in, no one really up to anything.

this might be a hint...
even if you post something like this in here, instancing kind of protects you.
not really... but up to a point.
so much for blockades.

Edit: but you are a real coward to hide in an instance with noone who wants to kill you ;)

Well, I just got my first player interdiction on my way to get a leathery Egg !!!

A pirate in a FDL (they look quite nice up close).

He was very polite, greeted me, scanned me..... decided taking rares off me to have to go 150Ly to sell them wasn't worth his time, bid me good day and left me sitting here.

I'm feeling quite rejected and upset now, knowing I'm not good enough, not even with 80T of rares :(

This I see with leaving Solor/Group and Open interactive with each other is the technical limitations you have in expanding the game for the player interactive part. I posted a long post earlier in the Suggestions root thread so will not repeat it all hehe. I pretty much covered ways to increase player interactivity usage of more of the 400billion systems that are in the game. Implementing any trade or say resource hauling train for manufacturing would be broken if clans can just jump into a group session and move them past all players. I say separate the two to some extent. Player interactive content should meant to enhance open play should be disabled when entering any of the other modes. If you want to go into deep space and mine rare resources you can but you will not see any player created structures nor have a hold at base to store what you got. Just be able to sell it on NPC market. You can carry it over if in hold but may have a 30min wait period to unload in open play from when you exited solo/group play with the cargo.

It feels to me like everyone is on the same servers and the modes you play are filters.

What more can you ask for?
You met a reasonable person...
Don't try to find the Psychos... they "hide" in instances as well ;)

"Open" is not a bad place. Just one i don't want to spend my time in (mostly).

Exactly right - the matchmaking system is in control - whether a player is in Solo (match with no others); Private Group (match with only those players who are playing in the same Private Group) or Open (match with players playing in Open).

The game was successfully pitched well over two years ago with the three game modes, the single shared galactic background simulation and the ability to change game mode, with the same commander, on a session by session basis.

The debate on the merits (or not) of the three game modes and group switching has been going on for well over two years now, i.e. from well before launch of even Alpha 1.0. The game has been launched with these core features intact and we are now over six months post release - I do not expect them to be changed now.

Ridley Scott is rubber banding like mad for me.
(so that's 2 places that annoy me in open now)

now imagine someone that is "encouraged" to play in open.
he limits his connection to that of a 2G cellphone, adds 500ms pingtime and throws away every third UDP packet.
people would love to be instanced with him/her...

Well, after being afk for an hour while I cooked my wife and I some dinner - I'm heading home to grab my combat ship and try a RES out - last thing on my to-do list in Open

now this is a boring evening in here.

good thing i had a lot of fun otherwise. could manage to pull my wife away from the witcher for a while *g*

It's not been boring for me so far. Was interdicted for no reason by someone in a fer-de-Lance, who promptly demanded that I kill my engines and drop cargo. When I pointed out to him that my little Sidewinder didn't have any cargo bays, he told me to stop anyway. That is when the laughing really started. He opened fire, and I boosted and used the little Sidey's maneuverability. Hyperspaced out with 52% hull and a FDL jockey in a foul mood.

Awesome!

That just rubs it in, my FDL pirate left without any cargo (and I had 80T of rares), never shot at me and even offered to guard me when he seen me later on at a station.
I looked more pathetic in a T6 with rares than someone in a Sidey !!!!

:(

Here we go, some pictures from my trip to Open Mode.
Lave, Diso and Orrere were the most busy systems when I did my rare trade runs - apart from that, unless someone was sending my direct messages, I was alone.

My list of activities for the evening;

Combat Zone;
Resource Extraction Site,
Rare Trading,
Being Pirated (sort of)
Going AFK outside a busy station (done on purpose),
Lots of travelling.

I was interdicted a total of 3 times, twice by NPCs.
Added 3 people to my friends list and had some nice chats going.
Earned about the same as always.

Few things to note;

I didn't see any ramming going on, or any sort of "griefing" behavior, and I flew all over the hot spots in a T6 with 80T of rares on me.
Everyone I spoke to was very nice and polite.
50Ly+ or more from the hot spots - I was alone. All alone, just like being in Solo.
Some people did seem to phase in/out of my "island" (instance) while in Supercruise.
I always play with Spotify streaming, so I have no idea what effect that had on playing in Open Mode.

How very dare he, pull you out of SC and not even rob you, sorry for your hurt.

Here is my last time in open, I went looking to get robbed, you obviously need to work harder (I would suggest Eravate, it worked for me :D) https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=96666&highlight=

I also have it recorded, I have watched it a few times, IIRC he "demanded" 4 tons of crop harvesters (out of 100), I will watch it again to remind myself of his name, he will be getting a friend invite some time soon!.

You should have just given him the cargo you didn't have, I mean what is the point of a cargo scanner anyway?

Glad you got away and saved the sidey, the rebuy can hurt when you A grade one :D
