for people that re-outfit ships -- if 10% penalty for compoent sale is implemented, which profession are you going to stick with?

THIS IS NOT a debate over whether the 10% penalty should be imposed or not. if you have a comment on that, go post it in the 100 page thread in the beta forum.
.

I'm just curious what people plan on doing if it's imposed-- specifically, people that use a single ship and refit it for trading/exploring/fighting? continue to re-fit ships as before, or focus on a single profession?

All of them!.
10% won't stop me doing anything but it may make me respec alll my old ships differently rather than chopping and changing the same ship

It will put a damper on experimenting.
I guess I'll have to use one of the third party tools to try different fit-outs for power usage, range etc.

After 1.3 I'll probably have a multi-role fitout for general adventuring and park it when I need a more specialized vessel.

I wouldn't have a problem with the change IF you could have a certain amount of spare parts storage...(A shed or garage if you will, for parts).

That way I could swap my 6A shields out of my Python when I am trading and back in when I am in combat mode.
It doesn't have to be unlimited storage, just 4 to 6 parts. (After all, the real expensive stuff is like FSD, Shields, Fuel Scoop etc).
I can store a certain amount so I can reconfigure my vessels to different roles, and if I decide to sell any parts then it cops the 10% penalty.

If they continue as seems to be mentioned here, then yes, it will seriously affect ship reconfiguration.

Which profession?

Same as always - I have role specific ships so this isn't really going to affect me. Mind you I am waiting for 1.3 to drop fully and then will clear save, be interesting to see if that has changed my mind!

I'll do trading in the Conda, do my main RES farming in the Python and Vulture, fight Combat Zones in the Python and Vulture, explore and do run-arounds in the Asp, do some SSS in the Fer-De-Lance, noodle about in a Courier (when it arrives), and eventually get another Conda to kit out for extreme combat. That should cover all bases.

this is bothering me big times!
for im using multirole ships for what they are invented: multiple roles... in order to adept to purpuses better im changing the loadout everytime i head out to a new jurney... this will be quite alot for my python/ conda

One ship per role, and one multi-role ship. All at Founder's World. Hopefully that'll suffice. I've yet to decide what ships are best suited for each role.

I'm keeping my Asp no matter what, as that was the 'end game' ship for me, and pretty much the only one I wanted to fly aside from the Cobra. I am tempted to get a Courier as a run around - just because it looks so cool. And can see myself buying one of the larger ships at some point in the future, when I'm old and grey(er).

Same here. The Asp is the only ship that I just love flying each time I get it out of the hangar. Great range, great sound, great everything.

Seeing as I'm going to be taking an extended trip out of colonized space shortly after 1.3 launches, I don't think it will affect me very much.

Traded in my Anaconda in anticipation for this (too high maintenance anyway). Gonna be using a Python for combat and... I guess an Asp, if I ever feel like exploring again? I don't really do a lot of trading.

I too have done this. I had worked up to a C rated Anaconda, used mostly for trade, and armed with mixed pulse and burst lasers. For RES action I would put a cannon on the C4 and B rate some components. But last night I decided for power play I will need to decide my trade and kit out a ship.

After considering an FDL, and even a Dropship (I will be siding with the Federation) I went back to the Python. And my trade will be a Federal security and light trade. So I have a fully A rated combat Python, with 216 cargo space, KWS and FSI, with the same rebuy as the C rated Conda.

I think power play will force CMDR's hands to ply a trade in a certain ship. Some players will be able to afford multiple ships. But most will make the hard decision. Having to A rate your ships to make them useful and survivable in the new unknown galaxy.

If the 10% loss is implemented (and I'm sure it will), I simply won't touch multirole ships anymore. Why should I bother with them while I can take a specialized ship that will perform better ? Their advantage was that you could swap your loadout easily for no cost, now if you swap your playstyle frequently, you're better to get one combat ship and one trading ship instead of a multirole.

True, but in the defence of the multi-role vessel it does allow you to switch roles instantly.
One ship with the same fit-out can be an adequate fighter/trader/explorer all at once until something better is needed.
The ship you fly when you don't have anything specific to do so to speak.
I think that will be my approach anyway.

I was thinking about buying another Anaconda, but I'm not sure that my trade>explore>trade refitting of my current one will be that expensive really. Nothing that an hour of trading couldn't make up anyway.

I'll switch my Anaconda to pure trading (with basic defenses), convert my combat Python to multi-role (i.e. give it SOME cargo capacity :)) and keep my Vulture and Viper for combat (until I can afford a fully fitted FDL again).
Then start saving for that Corvette!

Assuming FD do not add a module storage mechanism then my Asp will remain in a heavy explorer/scout/express taxi configuration. My FDL will remain outfitted for interdiction/PvP. My Python will remain pure combat, with a PvE bias.

I'm close to buying an Anacondbut i am not sure with that yet. My trading days are behind me, so apart from long range exploration or for pure scatter the pigeons presence I just do not know.

Reading through this makes me realise how much my game style has shifted repeatedly. The beauty of Elite.

I may skip it and keep the cash for......Corvette?

Used my Conda for almost everything and refitted it as needed. I'll strip it to become a light, long range solo trader and fit a multipurpose Python for some mission running and farming PP modules. Not sure what to do with my FDL yet - I'll probably keep it mothballed as I bought it at a discount.

Seriously though, using multirole fit is unoptimal.

Things would be different if this game was more nomadic and did not have such a large area of civilized space. And if you would meet hostiles when exploring... I suspect that day will eventually come but until then the "multirole" will simply mean a hull that can be fitted for different specialist purposes, unless FD institutes some limitations for internal slots like they have done with Orca. If anything, current multiroles make too good specialists in some cases (Python and Anaconda mainly).
