235M credit ship lost

He's probably from the generation where all the kids get a medal for trying hard.

Holy crap, how is this hard people? Make sure to have enough money to cover insurance on your ship, it's actually mind blowing that people don't realize this.
Never undestood that mindset, want to make the kids not feel left out? by giving them almost exactly the same as the winner? then what's the point?
Give them at best a participation ribbon, shows they tried, but let the medals only be given to winners.

Trying should be encouraged and motivated, but not on the same level as winning, course said winners should not be idiots about it, which unfortunately you hear many are. If the winners (and this goes not only for that generation of kids and such) but also for those that 'win' big in terms of money, didn't look down the nose upon those that tried but didn't win, the world would be very very different.

I lost my type 7 a month ago or so. Didnt had the insurance. Since then i don't play anymore. I find that this is still a game. So let it be a game. If many people have this problem they will stop playing. Ed is made for playing it like 10y or so. But with this crapy insurance thing i think in 5y ed has a max players of 500. Because everybody gets mad about the insurance. They lost me as a player. Removed it from pc and i think i never come back to it

Question... Did you realise you were not covered? Or did you not understand the mechanics or miscalc?

A simple answer to all this would be that station security impound your ship and simply do not let you fly it unless you are covered for insurance.

Failing that, make it so it still carries risk in that just like driving cars, flying with no insurance is a crime resulting in you getting a huge fine to pay, which increases the more you get seen in it by the security forces.

See my suggestion.....

Insurance always pre-paid and so your ship is replaced BUT you cannot leave until you buy insurance. This would get rid of the issue as would people looking at the amount and making sure they have it.

its a damn shame to lose that many credits in one instance.. having crashed many a ship and died for whatever reason.. my 70 insurance claims and having only paid 48mill.. is a small drop compared to losing 235Mil for one crash and not being able to buy back.

Take heart Cmdr, your lesson will save many other Cmdr's millions by this oversight... always look for the good in everything

i salute you o7

My condolences CMDR.
condolences for being a fool ? and not flying with insureance you got exactly what you deserved

yes lets take away any thought from the human players cause that works he knew he didnt have the money yet still flew his own damned fault

The insurance system is actually pretty generous IMO. How you can get up to the bigger ships without understanding how it works amazes me. If I don't have enough insurance for x3 crashes, I drop down to one of my other ships...

Does the game really need a massive neon sign saying "you are not insured, this is dangerous" every time you leave a station?

I crashed my FDL into the inside of a station once. Only had enough cash on hand for twenty rebuys, but the embarrassment almost killed me!

- This is not a whine post;

Yet right before...

The insurance rules really should be revised.

... so it is essentially a whine post. I am sorry for your loss I can only imagine how frustrating that might be. Now you are asking for an additional or different system in case you don't have the rebuy costs. It is like going to your car insurer and tell him "yeah I crashed my car and didn't pay the insurance fee this month, could you do something please?". You stated yourself you knew you should not fly without insurance, yet you did. Sorry.

I crashed my Anaconda accidentally tonight, and did not have the insurance cost available right away.
If you do not have the insurance money right away, there is no possibility to earn the insurance in another ship and then buy the wrecked ship back.
I just lost a ship I have spent 3 months to get to. This is actually so bad I have no words; At this point I am not sure I can bear start all over.

The insurance rules really should be revised.

Edit for clarity:
- This is not a whine post; I worded it thus to illustrate the feeling of loosing all assets to - yes - my own stupidity.
- I am very consciously aware of how the insurance system works, I don't need to hear it. That is not the purpose of this post.
- I really think that the insurance should work in a way that lets people who - for any given reason - do not happen to have enough cash to rebuy a lost ship can get it back in one way or another. The cost adjusted with the value of the ship, keeping it Painfully, but not 235M painfully.

On one hand - I understand your sentiments.
On the other hand I like those hilarious threads and would sure miss them.

The only thing I can tell you is that when you have only played for 3 months to get the Anaconda - go on playing, the game is getting easier with each passing month, compared to february. So I think you wouldn't need half as long as you needed back then to earn that money back.

If you had started in december I couldn't restart either- in december you could make that money in a few days. I earned 100MM in about 3 days leisurely playing.

This is a necro...

This is the never ending story.

The OP's name may change, the details may vary slightly, but people will throw away everything on a gamble and come to the forum to let us know how harsh they think anything resembling consequences are.

What's it matter if people respond to this thread or one of those future threads?

On the very first screen on right side..there is the payback value, it is red if you cannot pay it...
I don't understand how people can miss this..

I sort of know how you feel, having just lost my Python to a canopy breach. But it's not as if the rules suddenly changed before I started attacking the other player. I knew I was taking a risk, and this time I lost out.

I know it's a lot of time lost. But you've done it once, and you can do it again. So get back out there and fight/trade/explore/whatever your way towards the next one.

Sounds like you're taking away my right to fly my own ship. If you don't want insurance then fine but you can't complain if you lose it all. I've flown a couple of times before with no insurance, calculated and terrifying risks, but mine to take.

Insurance rules are fine as is. responsibility for self, I say. If you can't handle the consequences in a game, how will you deal in the real world?
