What do you foresee as the biggest barrier to a bigger broader playerbase.

What will be done down the line to make sure the game has enough of a playerbase to continue at later stages?
 
Control Effects are a very exciting addtion, that will have a massive impact on players, markets, and minor factions.

Do markets and minor factions have an imact on the Powers that control or exploit them?
For instance, will civil unrest, local wars or regime change feed back to effect the Powers?
 
Are major faction NPCs actually in the game physically? As in will they be onboard capital ships, and some of the smaller local leaders be in heavily escorted wings?
 
Been itching to ask about this, its non powerplay related but was wondering when we can expect the first DLC's to come out. Paid for ones i mean with planetary landings et all :) pwurty please

  • PowerPlay and the minor factions background sim are two very similar systems based around star system control supported by players' freight and combat actions. They function largely in parallel and are only loosely coupled via Powers' effects on owned systems and by ruling faction government types' effects on Powers' actions.
    Do you see a risk that this complex dualism will be impenetrable for new players? Will you streamline the systems at any point in the future?
  • PowerPlay adds a high level strategy game layer. What is planned for the low level, minute to minute game? Will the DDF features be used to flesh out the minute to minute gameplay with more variety apart from combat and moving cargo?

Another question, more specific this time.

Are you concerned about the possibility of players joining a Power just for the special shiny piece of equipment, then hopping to another Power for the same, especially given the concerns regarding devoting a lot of time towards playing in order to progress towards the greater rewards, often with little to noimmediate benefit in terms of in game credit payments? Are there any other significant incentives for playing for a *single* Power as opposed to remaining non-aligned and non-committal?

The P2P architecture entails a lot more of the strain being taken by user connections for PVP encounters than a client-server setup, and there have been numerous stories of people not being able to see each other when purportedly in the same "island", or having to leave and re-enter areas repeatedly in order to meet, seemingly at the whim of the random matchmaking gods - how are such concerns being addressed in the long-term?

I was wondering about the influences which lead you to creating Elite, what were your main muses in that respect? I suspect (and kinda hope) you were a Traveller player back in the day.

Mr Braben,

What is there to stop people farming the unique modules of each power? I have seen several commanders say they will do this to try and collect all the modules. This would seem to punish commanders who want to be loyal. Is there a deterrent or something in place to stop this?
 
Hi David,

Can't you really make power module loaned, when you pledge a power ?? I really don't like how a player can collect more than one power module on his ships.
Buy disable power module when leaving a power ensure loyalty !!
 
Non-PP question, but now that you've released the debug camera, seen the results of it and that the world isn't collapsing because we can see outside of our ships - will you consider improving the existing and adding more tools for video makers in the future?

Also - will we soon be seeing anything around being able to name our ships, and sell them with the history mentioned in the DDA?

With regards to player generated station building, how does it work, who do we need to contact?

Will the station building program be automated or does it need dev input?
 
How will this effect deep space explorers? Will they loose all their reputation because they will not be gaining any with minor Factions while they are exploring?
 
Mr Braben,

Is there any chance in the future of seeing Mk I and Mk III Eagles, with the Faulcon and Gutamaya influences, or is the Mk II the only Eagle that survives to 3301?

There is this 10% module sale penalty elephant in the room, it's a huuuge thread and matter of debate on the forum.

What does David Braben think about it?

There are a few different things here. We should probably have had something in for this at the start, but we need to do something. We understand some of the complaints - particularly about swapping ship load-outs.

I also think we should have discussed it beforehand - but given how many things there are in Powerplay, we simply didn't call it out.

This is a bone of contention amongst our designers - and we will do something in the future. There should be a cost to this - but that is for another day. So some news - we will be reversing this change shortly (or 'soonTM' as Michael B would say...), so to be clear this aspect will be as it was before in the public release.

This is a beta after all, and we want the best experience for everyone.
