We ever going to Expand?

Not to create a cavernous rift between folks here but I would like to hear more on the development of Station Wandering and First Person Shooter aspects of the game. Planetary Landings and exploration. I mean I love Elite, and played the original series but I am hoping I am not alone in this but this is the ultimate MMO FPS RPG setting and the Elite team have already proven they are more than capable at making the most awesome game. Now I think it’s time to grow and push on. I mean how cool would it be to have missions pitting the fate of a station, or warship or maybe even a whole solar system in the hands of boarding parties and invading forces. Ships transitioning from space to atmospheric vessels for close air support. Following the directions and way points of a massive ships tactician to weave through the skies ducking in and out of clouds masking their movement with the help of a mountainous back drop all to drop supplies and reinforcements to the ground troops while being escorted by quick and nimble fighters. I don’t know maybe it’s just me but I still have high hopes for Elite. Not just to be flogged off to the PS and XBOX.

Not that I'd have your same interests in type of 'game play'; but (yes) on Station wandering, (every inch of it) and on planet landings....On planet landings I'd love to watch amazing triple star sunsets, explore, go fishing, take missions for cities or towns, go hunting, take delivery missions from NPC's to Stations from planets and vice/versa. Also on stations I'd love to find a bar, just sit and watch ship activity among other players or NPC's. All of these things (first person), yes so many things.

That'll all be in paid for expansions. Logically they'll want to finish the game fully, release it on other platforms then release these expansions in DLC that'll include the content your looking for. Currently we have no idea when the expansions will be released so we're just gonna have to wait. I agree it would (will) be awesome but it isn't coming for a while, maybe later this year.

Logically that will never happen. ;)

The game will be in constant development for as long it makes financial sense to do so. Hopefully for many many more years to come. Alongside that development of the core game they will release expansions, something they are already working on and as you say will likely be released later this year. I'm guessing we might hear more about the first paid expansion during E3.

I dont know, do you see how simple the missions are right now? Taking into consideration the amount of bugs those simple and repetitive missions have right now... I dont see how can they pull off more complex ones.

They need to fix what we have right now, add more content with the current mission system and then expand.

But, I dont think so... They doesnt have the skill or the man power for that, and also, the way this game works (very simple scripted instances with just bots standing there, look how boring the conflict zones are) I doubt they will be able to do those complex gaming features with this engine.

Wouldn't we all :) David Braben didn't answer questions about this during the Q&A earlier today - FD are a small studio, we need to have patience.

Finish the game fully? What does that mean? Supposedly the game has a 10-year dev lifespan (any backers have a source for this?). I reckon we are at least 12-18 months away from planetary landings, with walking around our ships probably coming first maybe in Q1 or Q2 of 2016.

Do we actually know for sure they are already working on expansions?

My bad on the finish the game fully thing, I didn't do my research. But I still see us getting some news of expansions later this year.

It has a 10yr plan , and by the time Freelancer2 oh I mean StarCitizen is out elite will have triple the ammount of content

When people say things like this, I just say look at 'The Outsider' using an earlier version of this engine (a Robert Ludlum type story, but 1st person). This game made by FD and in production I believe in arrangement with 'Gremlin'. It was all but finished, then cancelled. -By Gremlin I think.

I know that game, but I will ask you this: if FD is capable to do that, why the missions in ED are so bugged, simple and boring ?

Maybe the outsider was just a cool trailer?

Time will tell what they can or can't do, but referring to a canned game, as an example of their capabilities, probably isn't the strongest argument you could come up with.

The initial word was that the first paid expansion would be 12 months after release. Weather that's planetary landing or not who knows!

Thinking about the scope of those aditions and the size of FDev, any expansion in a decent format would take between 8 to 16 months to develop, taking into consideration current industry trends and being really optimistic. I'm not a dev so I could be very wrong and that's not if they have some parts of it already underway (which I think is the case). I'd say summer of 2016, with a bunch of useless smaller updates like PP. On the other hand, No Man's Sky is supposed to launch in the second semester this year (which is not something I'd count on) and the Star Citizen modules that add that gameplay is said to be launch early 2016. So, if those two games get some form of release, then it's possible that FDev gets some of their feedback into their work and either speed up or slow down the process of developing those expansions.

I'd bet that planetary landings will come first, somewhere in 2Q 2016 - at best. FPS action maybe anywhere between 1Q or 2Q 2017 - again, at best.

As soon as Frontier went public the clock started ticking on how fast they can sell the company and make enough profit in the sale to make it worthwhile.
Analyze their current IP holdings and how they're being utilized for profit and you can easily see all Frontier's eggs are in one "Elite: Dangerous" basket.
If you don't get what you want in Elite: Dangerous before the company is eventually sold off to an EA or Microsoft then you'll never see it.

So star citizen will have 1.2 trillion stars, cool, I look forward to exploring such a large galaxy.

They have said walking around ships and stations will come before planetary landings. Landing on rocks will come before we can land on atmospheres and probably before we can fly into in a gas giant.
