Ships Diamondback Explorer???

Im confused... how do people know the stats and size of the explorer? All I have seen or know anything about is the scout. Exept that the explorer is bigger.. have I missed something?

It is up on the beta server. Try it out and report your experience with it.

Oh yeah. IMHO the best looking ship in the game - it looks like what I would expect a small starship to look like. I liked the scout a lot, but this variant looks even better.

It's relatively slow, with fairly weak shields, but is maneuverable and has some of the best weapons convergence in the entire game. Handles heat very well.

Jumprange is ~30ly in a combat config, or about 35 in an exploration config.

It's bright yellow by default, probably to make stealth setups easier to spot so they don't overrun things.

It is really really beautiful, much more so than the asp, imo.

Makes me hate that scoop all the more :(.

Morbad, is it actually more maneuverable than the asp, for example? People are reporting maneuverability rating of like ... 5 (I realize there is more to it than this, it has to do with the shape of the ship, mass, thrusters, other variables we don't know, etc.) Anybody checked the supercruise turning speed in that thing?

Indeed. I know the devs have said its totally different and as much work as a whole new ship.

They have?

Source?

.

The devs:
"Here everybody! An extra variant of a ship that you didn't expect in this update! Enjoy! :)"

Some of the playerbase:
"Booo! It's not a unique ship!!"

I went to the Coriolis shipyard and the DB Explorer isn't loaded yet. The Scout has a class 4 FSD. Does anyone know if the Explorer will get a class 5 FSD ?
.
I hope so. I was planning on buying a DB for exploring but I could not get the Scout version configured for much more than 25 LY jump laden.
.
Plus I had hoped it would have one more internal utility slot than the Scout but I may be wishing for too much.
.
Thanks

I don't mind a variant, but this could set a precedent for padding up to the 'promised 30 ships' with variants. I think that's why people are saying 'Booo!' because there are many iconic ships from earlier games that could be added instead. Give us 30 unique ships, then monetise them with premium variants and the like :D.

It's fast and manoeuvrable.

So it's fast but relatively slow. OK. Now I'm confused.

it's a perfect ship for solo pve, but i would highly advise to ever get out of a station in open.

Why exactly?

Guess I'll have to test it when it's available to non-beta-testers.

yea i agree, personally all i want is the ship in my signature so i don't mind that much :p

Why exactly?

because big target + average shield + very bad speed = you can't do anything against any of these ships: Imperial Clipper, Fer-de-Lance, Python
can't run away or jump, because they are faster and have more mass lock than the DB explorer, and you won't win against them (except extremely bad CMDR or afk)

if you're loosing against any of these ships: Viper, Cobra, Imperial Courier, Vulture, Diamondback scout, ASP
you can't run away but you can still jump, so it's safer than those before, but still very dangerous.

on a final note, they can all run away from you very easily, the Diamondback Explorer reach around 330 boost speed, very few ships are that slow, the combination of all the disadvantages makes it a bad ship for pvp

It's not that bad. Sorta like a cheap Asp funnily enough. The Weapons fire pretty well, it's more manoeuvrable than you imagined...but damn it's slow.

With a top speed like the Clipper it would be such a cool and useful ship. Those 3 big engines should be worth something. Please FD make the Diamondback Explorer a fast ship. Please give us Alliance and Fed players a useful fast ship …

Not the point of the ship.

There are fast ships like the Cobra, which is also pretty useful.

For something larger, the Asp is surprisingly quick (~394 boost), and the Fer-de-Lance is quick too (~406 boost).

I know. But it would be so nice.

If I want something like the Cobra I can use the Diamondback Scout (looks like a sweet ship). The Asp - I don't know, i simply don't like it (B6 fuel scoop is fun). A lot of wasted space and to much a trader. Will have to take a closer look at the FDL, but it's too big for my taste.
