Ships Imperial Courier

32ly Max Jump - dunno what that guy is smoking?

Combat ready has only 14.8, or 18+ with light weight alloy ( no armor ).
Reactor A4
Thrusters A3
FSD A3
Sensors D2
Power distributor A3
Life support D1
Shield A3
SCB A3
Cargo rack E2 ( 4 tons)
Fuel scoop A2
FSD Interdictor D2
Only 18.04. Or 14.6 with military grade composite armor.
Cobra can do better...

just flew a diamondback.
if its stripped down its fairly similar to the stripped down courier for speed.
Boosts to 441.
When you have A equipment except for the life support and sensors its quicker.
Boost around 420 without cargo.
Its weapons are more central too, so if you like fixed weapons the diamond back is better.

The two wings of the courier aren't that far apart, buts its enough when fighting something smaller than an asp to be a pain to hit with all 3 weapons at once.

I'd say the courier is an upgrade to the viper, its got better shields and can be faster with more power available, and more internal space.

Couriers exploding everywhere here :), ship ramming at stations seems worse than before the changes too.

*edit, I'm getting over 20LY jump range on the courier too, so thats also better than the viper. If you like the viper you will like the courier. If you don't like the viper, the courier is probably skipable.

Did you try to equip a Courier in the same way as a Viper (A rated everything except life support and/or sensors, max shield, one max SCB, full compliment of weapons and utilities etc.)? Because such a Courier is slower than a Viper. The Courier is only really fast when you strip it down to the minimum, because the class 3 thrusters are too weak for the mass of the equipment. (Why the Diamondback has the class 4 thrusters and not the Courier, only FD knows; it would have made sense if the DB got the better FSD, the Courier the better thrusters...)

I don't equip a viper that way.
415-420 boost is the viper I normally fly. Half fuel tank, D3 shields A2 power plant.

I did put everything "normal" on the courier, its the second video I posted a few pages up. It boosted to around 390, the same number everyone is saying the courier does.
The thing is, if you build a tank, you shouldn't complain about it being slow.

If you are building the 390 boost courier, what I've called the Fat Courier, I agree its rubbish. Vulture is better in every way, cobra is better, diamondback is better.

What I'm not sure about is all the internal bays on the courier. Its only good if its partially stripped down, so what can you put in the internals? There aren't enough light but useful components.
I've got 16T of cargo space, because it takes up no weight, but if I actually use it the courier is crippled.

With no cargo I get a 4 pips speed of 310 and a boost of 420, jump range of 20.40LY.

But with 16T of cargo it goes down to 296 speed, 402 boost and 16.84LY jump.

I'm all for having more internal bays, but on a ship like the courier all it does is make you put in something that makes it slower, or put nothing in them making them pointless.
The big powerplant is a similar problem. Having more power is great, but a bigger powerplant is heaver (so slower courier) and more power encourages bigger shields and more shield cells (slower again)

I posted this in another thread but may as well post it here:

I get the feeling that only certain ships will be able to equip "Luxury" cabins. The Courier will be the first able to do this in one of it's Class 3 slots. I think it'll be multirole in that it'll be able to fight & take high value passengers in a "Luxury" Cabin and it'll be the first ship able to do this, with cheaper ships such as the Cobra only able to equip "Basic" cabins.

If they make every ship able to equip the same level of cabins in their slots then there's no point in the Orca etc, so they must be planning some Passenger specific limitations on ships

This is all speculation and wishes though!

Definitely not the first ship (I'm sure Orca and Clipper can do that, too), but I'm with you there. The question is when this will be implemented.

Sorry when I say first ship I mean first in the ladder if you were starting from scratch again :)

Ive tried to strip the Courier down entirely - except fuel scoop and the two scanners for exploration. The result was a tinfoil ship with a range just above 30 LY...

Almost as good as a Hauler setup for exploration... I don't understand why they are calling this ship a multi role. The only thing it can do reasonably well is fight.

now that powerplay comes out, does anyone know where you could get the courier? Probably Empire Systems, though maybe someone has an Idea which Location could bear this ship

Bta-1 Tucanae will I suspect, and I'm pretty sure Baker Terminal in Achenar will as the last Empire CG gavea 15% reduction to Courier purchases from Baker :)

The cockpit is the best cockpit I've ever seen in the history of all the things, and the sound... the sound.

the ship may not be the best or even good at anything, but damn this thing is just a pleasure to fly.

Hi,

Sorry if this has been asked before (and it's a noob question):

Is it just me, or are shields recharhing very slowly?

Last night I decided to do a bit of RES bounty hunting with a Courier (3A shield + 1xA booster, everything A rated) and after a hairy encounter with a Clipper my shield was down to 1 ring. I flew around for a few minutes (I think about 4-5mins) looking for a new prey and waiting for my shields to go back to full strength, but in that time not even 1 ring managed to recharge. Diverting power to Systems didn't help either. Is that normal?

Sorry for a noobish question, but last time I did combat was right after the game was launched (December?) for around an hour, then I moved to exploration and been doing that ever since.

Shield recharge depends on your Power Distributor and the Maximum Capacity of the shields. Stronger shields take a lot longer to reload than weak shields.

The 3A Power distributor only gives +1.3MJ/s recharge, The A3 Shields + A Booster have a capacity of 402 MJ. So it if this is right, it takes 5 Minutes to completely reload the shields. Without the Shield booster it takes 4:20min (335 MJ)

Ah, now i see what's going on. (EDIT: 3A shields with A booster give 469.2 MJ according to coriolis.Io)

Many thanks.

This is actually not so: someone's testing found that shield recharge is only 1 MJ/s for all ships, or 1.6 MJ/s if the shields are down. So yes: shield recharge is very slow, and always has been.
