Elite: Emergency Assistance, the true rescue service

Elite: Emergency Assistance

It is said great minds think alike. That can be true, but the idea then can be used to further your own goals or to further mankind in general. Elite: Emergency Assistance is an organisation set up of well informed responders who will volunteer to help all in need of critical refuelling. It operates as a voluntary group with expenses covered by future fund raising events (Unlike other profiteering groups!).

Elite: Emergency Assistance will offer all training as an open source for each and every commander in the universe but to be able to claim expenses the commander cannot have any other rescue affiliation. Training is open purely in the ethos that at least a life will be saved, even if they get extorted, better broke than dead!

p.s. I will update the intro once Emergency Assistance gets more structured. I will start off with the cool idea offered by Surly_Badger to have in-game rivalry between our two groups for now! :)

All details relating to Elite: Emergency Assistance can be found in steam group http://steamcommunity.com/groups/EliteEmergency it will contain guides and protocols to make being a responder and someone being rescued as smooth as possible. I will post a quick protocol draft as a sample/teaser :)

People wanting to be rescued can either post on this thread or (preferrably) call for help in the steam group chat or discussion thread.

Before undocking to respond;

  • Initial call details
  • Correct ship for call
  • Correct equipment for call

Initial call details

A responder has to know how many ships are involved, what type of ship (ship mass and current FSD equiped) and where the distress call is coming from. This is not just for being able to find the CMDR in distress but also to let the responder know if they can make it in their own ship. Other considerations are, how much fuel is required to reach safety (Be that a station or nearest appropriate scoopable star).

Correct ship for call
The responders ship must be able to make the jumps to reach the CMDR in distress, if you are unable transfer the call to a responder who is capable. You have to be mindful that you can carry enough fuel to reach the CMDR, transfer enough fuel that the CMDR can reach safety and that yourself can reach safety also. (Never, ever become a casualty yourself. Two people now need rescuing rather than one. If unable to effect rescue stand off and relay info to your backup).

Correct equipment for call
Three things are needed to affect a successful rescue enough fuel, refuel limpet controller and enough limpets to transfer the needed fuel. Ensure you have enough before setting off!

The "true" rescue service?

Hey, when the Fuel Rats rescue someone, they're rescued. Sure, they may lose some weight in shipping and handling, but they're rescued.

<nudges Surly_Badger>hey, they have an exclusivity clause...and training...don't we have a training video and no limit on a Rat's ability to earn a living? ;)

We have shorter rules!

That and you know, just about anyone exploring seriously is going to depend on other, known explorers for help...
i.e. those of use that post here regularly or have pledged to the Rats!

As opposed to:

>Sends mayday
>Gets hold of random "rescue" agent
>Rescue agent shows up
>"Rescue agent" blows up stranded player with 124981724 systems worth of data to sell
>"Rescue agent" laughs, posts about their experience and causes a forum storm

I have that covered in the guide on how to call for help which is on the steam groups forums ;)

I'll gladly help out anyone who finds their way here from the Steam forums, but I'm afraid I'm unlikely to go there to look for people to help out...

Also, definitely not extorting (or expecting any payment at all other than a return of the favour if I end up in a pickle and you're able) and picking sides only in so far as cannot be ringed to watch a second forum.

This is why I am a rat and not part of some jumped up rule infested organisation.

I will help any fellow commander out that I can, but I damn well expect them to be grateful. A rescue should not be smooth, people in trouble for running out of fuel should know that they have been a prize pratt for running out of fuel. Any easy rescue is a rescue that will happen again, and again.

A painful rescue, be it in time or expense, is a still service to the unfortunate commander who failed to keep an eye on his tanks. But it goes beyond that. He or she will learn from it.

Fuel Rats. Rescue service and teachers, all rolled into one.

I totally agree about using "known" explorers to rescue me.

With all due respect to the OP I would not trust anyone other than those many names on Surly_Badger's thread (and yes I am on there so you could argue I am biased). I have seen and interacted with many of the CMDRs on that thread over many many months - I know and trust their explorer outlook to this game. It is one of the reasons why this part of the forums seems much "nicer". There seems to be more respect as most of us share a common outlook and love all things exploring.

That is why this feels a little like this is trying to jump on the band wagon of an original idea :( But I understand you are coming at it from a "this is a free service" perspective, but again as many of the Rats also offer their services for free it makes this all a tad redundant.

Anyway, although I hope I have made my own point of view clear in a respectful manner, I wish you well with your service and hope none of us are needed that much :)

Actually I think a little rivalry could spice up the game. I've seen alot of comparison between firefighters and ambulance drivers from the 19th century, which is kind of cool.

For examples of this rivalry check the HBO series The Knick with Clive Owen.

So the rescuers will duke it out to see who gets to insert their bots into the stranded ? It is almost worth running out of fuel :D

If I turn up to a rescue in my Python and there is more than 1 ship, I will be shooting first and asking questions later.

This thread is excellent entertainment. :)

Personally it makes me wish even more that FD would add limpets that can perform external (hull) repairs and/or ones that can either transfer AFMU ammo or repair modules on another ship.

Then both services could provide an even better rescue service.

I'm like everyone else on this thread though, I'll rely on the Fuel Rats first thanks - and I'll probably be joining them after I've returned to the bubble, if I can spare the jump-range hit to carry the limpets. :)
