Powerplay = Punishment for Not Playing: Welcome to Your Second Job

To the people saying "you don't have to play PP"

Here's the thing... we want to play PP. We want to experience what it has to offer.
But as it stands, casual players can't.

Well we can, if we want to stay at a rating of 1, and not experience the rest of it. But here's the thing... it's a new update, new content, and that content is locked out, only to players who can play every day, for hours a day.
REALLY? I managed to get 200 merits today in about 2 hours, is that really so tough over the space of a week?

I'd love to learn kung fu but I just haven't got the time.

You should still be given a black belt though, thats just punishing people with a life. They need to change kung fu so you can learn it faster, 2 - 1 hour lessons and those that spend years mastering it have to nerf themselves so you can still kick their ass.

Surely you still have to check in every week to keep your merits up? Makes an explorer faction unworkable as far as I can tell; most explorers take trips of longer than a week

How does the amount of imaginary internet merits change your enjoyment of the game?
You earn merits, you hand them in, your Power gets some more numbers in its merits earned column.

If you don't enjoy doing the PP missions don't do them.
Do whatever it was you were doing before that you enjoyed more.

+1. Thank you. :D

Also, obviously everyone wants 50 Million per week free of work. *rolleyes*

Why do I have to power-hop if I'm interested in another weapon?
Why am I forced to play for a power that I don't like, just because it advances in the way that I like to play?

Surely the fact that you have to make tough decisions is one of the things PowerPlay *does* get right? You don't have to power hop, nor do you have to support a power you don't like. You can stick to the ideology you believe in or the faction you like and accept that you can't have other people's nice stuff on a plate all the time?
.
Points at the Witcher 3 - hard decisions that you don't necessarily know the outcome of a-go-go, and also the best game ever released (IMHO).

The whole thing just feels to me like watching an episode of Game of Thrones.

Tedious. I've tried, really I have.

I made a 25,000LY journey back from an exploration trip because of PowerPlay.

Big shout out to the Galactic core. I miss you bro...

Your missing the point, like many others who are commenting here. Power play is very interesting and adds much needed depth, which I and others are excited to be a part of. The problem is that the systems in place need a little work, some small improvements. Especially when not everyone can invest alot or scheduled amounts of time every week.

I looked on with interest in the mechanisms of Powerplay while the beta players were testing it. I remained unconvinced of it as a finished product, and so I chose not to participate when it went (prematurely) live over the weekend.

I'm remaining independent because it offers me nothing of interest to pledge to anyone. I get more out of the game just doing my own thing, and exploiting the PP regional passive bonuses.

I think Powerplay has the potential to be something pretty great, and integral to the modern Elite experience, but it all depends on whether Frontier are prepared to listen to the feedback.

For me, I'd have preferred it if they'd made the system of joining a Power more meaningful. As in, take the rank system that Major Factions have (Empire and Feds) and get rid of that.

Now, create the new ranks as part of Powerplay replacing this confusing and volatile rating nonsense. The rank is also something that doesn't have any decay mechanic. It remains at whatever level you achieve, and gets upgraded with your success and productivity over time, but can be subject to demotion should you underperform or fail in missions.

Make it so you progress within your power by being promoted in rank as you do more activities to help achieve its goals, and the longer you are a loyal and trusted part of it. Each rank level you achieve unlocks privileges and bonuses, such as better pay brackets, access to faction specific weapons, faction specific ships, Power related bonues... All that jazz.

Each Power rank, like the Elite ranks, are progressively harder to get, requiring accumulation of more activity credits per level. So casual players will achieve the lower ranks quickly enough, but have to play for the long term to get to the higher ranks. More regular players will get there sooner, just like the Elite or Anaconda grinders do right now, if that's how they choose to play.

However, whatever time you have, and put into the game, is your time, is static, activity based, and doesn't decay.

The expedition lasts 4 weeks

and you need as much systems as you can to reach the highest tier .

REALLY? I managed to get 200 merits today in about 2 hours, is that really so tough over the space of a week?

Ok, so let's assume that someone can do 2 hours a day, every day.
Obviously, this excludes playing any other game out there, and that Elite is the only game installed on the system, not to mention any additional real life events that can occur to stop you from playing those 2 hours a day. Yep, let's just ignore that.

So 2 hours a day, every day. At a rate of 200 merits (so either you managed to kill 200 targets in a space of 2 hours, or only did the undermine thing, which doesn't actually help your expansion for your power).

200x7 = 1400

So you can get 1400 merits a week, if you dedicate your playtime only to ED for... well, inevitably. Because there are no other games to enjoy out there right? And never mind real life responsibilities.

1400 merits a week, what rank does that get you?

Now apply the decay to that. What rank are you?

It's a never ending struggle. This is my point. Not everyone can do 2 hours a day. I certainly can't. I have a family to look after, as well as a job... I also like to experience other games when I can too. Elite isn't the only thing installed on my system.

I don't give a crap about the 50 mill a week. In my opinion, they should get rid of it. And replace it with actual rewards, modules, weapons, discounts etc.

There needs to be a way for all players to get involved in powerplay. Not only those who either have billions of credits to spend on fast tracking, or only have elite in their lives.
