What does everyone do in the quiet moments?

I've seen posts about having a book to read / watching shows on a tablet and so on, but what does everyone do when you're in SC to a (not so) distant stellar body?

What are the 'filling the time in' things you do while waiting for things to happen?

I have my phone out and read news articles mainly, I'm seriously considering getting a tablet for the same. Not using my Kindle as I like to immerse myself in a book and the game would ironically get in the way.

Write reports for archaeological sites/do the AutoCAD illustrations for em. You'd be suprised how many pre-historic sites have ended up with Class G Stars + TFC Water Worlds in them.

Listening to audio books, podcasts or music. Everything else distracts me too much - I have a tablet or my phone nearby to check the fora, but that's about it. (And hey, listening to stuff seems to be the thing an explorer out in the black would do.)

Actually read the all new Galnet. It is much improved. Once read it would be either some Bach, Beethoven, Led Zepellin or some other heavy metal stuff.

I normally listen to Audiobooks & podcasts and chat with my lovely wife. Right now, however, I find myself drooling over gaming rig specs.

For christs sake did you hear that? I'm 56 years old and I'm drooling over gaming rig specs.

I do so hope that I never ever grow up. Never. Ever.

I do restarting the game, after crashes, replotting route, try to click planets in gal- and system map and the rest of the time I am praying that the next crash will come later... its always something todo.

Normally, I alt-tab and go to imageboards or game forums. Not since 1.3 though. being alt-tabbed seems to increase the frequency of FSD crashes by about %1000.

If a game, designed to entertain, is giving people enough down time to consume entire audio books and read novels while they wait for something to happen... something is terribly wrong.

I strive not to have "quiet moments" if the body is so far I could read a book during the trip, I dont go.

I usually have a twitch stream up on another monitor to keep me company... if its an elite streamer, will join in the shop talk, if not I'll watch what they're up to and join in the chatter from time to time..

Maybe I've been lucky, but the farthest star I've ever seen (other than the infamous Hutton Orbital) has been 600,000 Ls, which is only, what? 15-ish minutes? That's barely enough time to hit the bathroom, throw the dinner dishes in the dishwasher, grab a drink, then get back in front of the computer just as the star scan begins.

I have my iPad tucked behind my keyboard like a 2nd monitor. I use it as a ship board computer to reference any missing info, or listen to astronomy podcasts. Mostly though, I just spin while in transit and take in the beauty with head tracking. I never get tired of looking at the night sky.

I do this as well, although getting involved in chat has accounted for a lot of my hull damage over the light years...
