What's happened to the ring systems?! They look terrible!!

if its the same as what happened when we went from 1.0 to 1.1 then ice rings and metallic rings should be the ones that stop spawning "fog"

Well whatever has happened it clearly isn't affecting all ring systems the same. This one is taken inside a ring at a different planet, in the same system.

Looks more or less the same as your image Tinman. Although it seems to me the blue/white fog has become more blue in 1.3

In comparing the shots you guys have provided at also appears to be when looking at the rings from higher up looking across and down is when the texture less roids show up. In the field is not so bad.

Gotta make it run on the Xbox One somehow, ... sigh.

Or those lower powered PC's .. you know like the one's that people do actually own ...

I am in no disagreement with the OP though, when the rings systems were first introduced in Alpha they looked damn impressive, now not so much sadly.

Thats why, on all pc games, there are graphical options, from low to ultra settings....

I've been using the training scenario Wolf Pack Tactics, which has/had a really pretty asteroid ring and beautiful lighting from farther out, to set up the whole EDFX thing with the fancy injected shaders. I started my config just before 1.3 came out and finished it yesterday. In 1.2 there was an amazing reflection effect from the ring, so that from a couple of boosts away the sunlight reflected off all the asteroids and caused a very intense light to appear across the ring. I couldn't get the same effect to appear in 1.3. The asteroids from afar now seem to ignore reflectivity or something.

Ok...tested a bit more.

Can also see the graphical glitch. There seems to be an issue with specifically metal rich and metallic rings (the same asteroid model being used in both).

Other types of rings seem fine.

So for those of you screaming "console downgrade" every time any kind of glitch comes along...why just downgrade one specific type of ring system and not the others? ;)

Answer: They wouldn't because there is no downgrade...there is however a bug in the LOD system and/or lighting for specific ring types at the moment.

What!? I absolutely love them! I think they look better than they ever have before, with roids clustered together tightly and all.

My vote is against changing it. Vocal minority and all.

the rings are framerate killers, probably needed to tone down the quality again.
The engine can´t handle it obviously ( even on GTX 980 it stutters)

doesn´t bode well for planets landing in a few years, which will need 100 times more detail
