Galnet E3 announcement by president Hudson?

ED has my 120,- € as well and I am very pleased that they listen to "me" and finally add an arena mode (hopefully). It is the wisest decision they could make at this point from a business standpoint too. Besides: E3 hasn't even begone. Maybe we are all wrong or they have some for the explorers up their sleeves too. It is a little bit early to get too emotional, IMO.

As I implied, I do not have a problem with an arena mode per se, if indeed this is what the announcement is going to be. Frankly, if there IS going to be (limited time) xbone exclusive content, then something I have no interest in can be exclusive for a long time as far as I am concerned. I understand, and accept the business case: FD have probably already got a high penetration into their old (in at least two senses of the word) target customer, so targeting a different customer makes economic sense. But it will annoy customers who signed up and have yet to see what they thought they were promised be delivered, whilst those new customers continue to get lots of new stuff.

It is certainly not too early to get emotional. :) Some of us waited a lot of years for this game, and to see what we thought we had signed up for and were promised not being delivered hurts. IN my case, as a member of the DDF I can see how little of that grand vision is in place, and new stuff that does not really fit with it. It is much easier to walk away if you only have a few weeks and a few quid invested in this thing than if you have invested lots of years, and lots of money. Still, I continue to have some hope. FD are not the big bad money-grabbing-and-damn-the-customers company that some conspiracy theorists make them out to be. A company that happily spends time (and thus money) tweaking NPC AIs and docking computers and wonderful sounds, is not only focussed on money. So I may get some of what I am waiting for eventually.

Fully agree. It is early days yet, but the few days so far, and from my location point of view at least suggest that player population, even PvP seekers may be too disperse at the moment. I am sure that PowerPlay can be tweaked to create incentives for more clear and specific hot spots. Certain systems being more critical than others for any gameplay reason, weather CC-wise or for other reasons.

Maybe the "green" preparation systems is that thing. But I am not sure players are getting it.

I'd love to see Powerplay funnel players into PvP hot zones, it just makes so much sense. I'd also like to see players engaged in these hot zones have their insurance costs covered by their respective Powers whilst inside of the hot zone. All the benefits of a deatchmatch mode, whilst at the same time improving the core game!

What I want to know is, why do some people simply hear the words "Arena Mode" and think it's the death of the game?
Some people want the next update to be about them, or an improvement on the things they do in the game.

I tend to think that the combat portions of Elite are the most fleshed out. Some things could use improvement, yes, but overall combat oriented activities are the most diverse.
So the arena mode is very low on the communities wishlist, especially with Exploration(and, to a lesser extent, piracy) in dire need of some improvement.

Personally, aside from the aforementioned exploration, I would like to see some improvements and "fleshing out" of salvaging.

As said in the other thread that was closed. In general, if done right, i think it could be a nice addition to ED. Meaning it should be embedded into the game in a meaningful way that doesn't break immersion for those who deem it important (myself included). A game in the game, a virtual arena were everyone who would like to, could participate. If it catches peoples attention maybe even some tournament. Always liked the Guild Wars Tournaments, especially the part that i could watch them if i wanted to. In general, imho something like that would have potential.

However, i also stand to the second part of said post. And that means, yea - would be nice to have something like that in the future, but right now there are way more important topics that need to be reviewed / revamped. And until those are solved and / or implemented i'm against sacrificing development time (at least too much of it) for such things, sorry.

20 -30(should be 32) + NPCs.

Oh ok.
Well maybe if there is a pseudo mass open world pvp event which fits the lore with an outcome bit like a 'community vs community' goal.
You go to a certain system and join the battle on one side and it's one goal split into as many instances that are needed allowing up to 16 players each side but full of NPC's that'd be ok.
Dunno if that makes sense. I suppose the framework is already there with conflict zones though.

please no, i love the shakes i get when i got something to loose and put it on the line.
if insurance cost was removed then elite will just be another arcade shooter.

Yeah, but don't you think it is a little naive to assume a game like this could be developed in just 1.5 years? It will take at least another 1.5 years until it is something that could be remotely called a polished game. Until then we will see many strange things that make more sense in the end than in the beginning (If my English sucks, I am sorry ^^).

To be honest, I absolutely don't care about the DDF. I don't want a random crowd of people or fans to design this game, I want Frontier to design this game. I appreciate the work that has been done and I am sure it is a good source of inspiration for FD. But it is not an obligatory design document and FD have never promised to fulfill it 1:1.

I'm not saying remove all insurance costs. Far from it. Insurance could remain for all activities as they currently are. But be "removed" or "reduced" for PvP hotzones - which we could have instead of a deathmatch mode. I'd like to see that more than I'd like to see deathmatch sims.

Then again, at the moment we still don't know if we are getting anything like that anyway...

Been watching this thread most of the day... My thoughts.

As an idea I think it's great. It can be worked in lore and opens up much more customers and as has been said. Tournaments etc I can see legends being created on Galnet.
New paint jobs for gladiators etc you name it.

The only downside I see is there is plenty of broken stuff already for the devs to tuck into. I get the feeling they are spreading themselves too thin. Leaping ahead, playing catchup and repeat.

My my take on the founders and backers. I understand your frustration but honestly that's how it goes now days. You where sold a dream and for the most part that dream is becoming reality but in that Monday morning meeting for the big wigs they are having to talk sales as much as development.

Yes, but all this should and will be part of the continuous and free update process. Mining, bounty-hunting, exploring and thargoids are all part of the base game. These are basic gameplay mechanics/content and shouldn't be part of paid expansions anyway.

On the other hand, an optional arena mode for those who like stuff like this is PERFECT paid expansion material! (And - obviously - the earned money will fuel the free updates for all players.)

I hope the arena is a small bonus that is part of a much bigger pack , maybe its part of station expansion.
you land on station then go to say a sim room and play the sim

Indeed! And not very unlikely, too, as Hudston mentioned 'programs' and 'programers'!
