Shield recharge - MISCONCEPT!

Like a bug template. I posted it there, it was moved and now I am unable to see it :] [maybe not smart enough]
I think we need to talk about shield recharge after 1.3
Here we go:

Impact on game: severe
Version Found:
1.3.1
Frequency: all the time
Time and date of issue: since 1.3
Commander name: all
Description:

Ok I think it is time to adress this issue. Shield recharge at stations is not a feature - it is dev mistake/misconcept!
Let's be serious. When shield resets at the station we just HAVE TO wait about 10 mins [ after switching boosters off] launch, fire cell banks and get back in.
This is JUST A TIME SINK, this brings nothing to the game and needs to be adressed. A SPACE STATION has power to recharge shields does it not?
I have just changed from sensors A to B [having spare power] and my shield reset for the third time today. Now I have to leave my computer ON and go about my business
just to get back after it recharges to get back to my game. Are you kidding me?!!

If any player actually finds this idea "realistic" or fun... I have no words. The game is already very grindy, and we should not waste so much time waiting for the shield charge.

I don't know which version would be better:
1. Shields recharge to full when docked, generator restarts when docked. [easiest]
2. Shields recharge much faster at station [or at least generator restarts much faster]
3. Shields rcharge as is [generator too] but we have a paid option in repairs to charge and restart generator [ lest say at the cost of cell banks?]
4. Station restarts generator very fast and we are able to use cell banks ON STATION.

Thank you very much! Damn it!

Thumbs up for this post - game is penalising players with larger ships and combat fitted ships

This absolutely is an issue that needs fixed, it also penalises those who have larger ships. The bigger the shield, the longer it takes, and those with combat fittings (i.e. shield boosters) have to mess around turning them on and off.
It is fair enough to have a short time penalty if changing a shield or power control module, but this should be either be shorter, or have a method to bypass for a fee. Who wants to turn on the game and sit for 15-20 minutes before they can play?

I must say that it's really not bothering me at all. In the bigger scheme of things I don't see a problem here. Just fly a bit more carefully with all pips in shields until fully recharged.

Agree with OP and I hope that the current system is tweaked.

When I smuggle in my little Conda, silent run in to the station. Takes forever to get shields back on again, A5 shield... 7boosters but yep I switch boosters off to get a ring back of course.

Its all a bit of a 'mare. Drinking too much tea as can't see what else to do with the 10minute timeouts.

This is something that can't be solved just by flying more carefully. Shields go offline if you upgrade your shield generator, and on particularly power-starved ships I've noticed that my shields often go offline if I even go into the outfitting screen. It gets to be a real pain.

A question to DEVS - why is it like this? Shield recharge at stations would not be an exploit. It would save our time, the energy our pc's consume during wait and make the game JUST A BIT less time killing.

Stations should have the ability to charge shields faster for sure.

I made an outfitting change today also which reset my Conda shields, they take forever to recharge.
I can deal with it in the void, working as intended but sat on a pad hooked up to the station? Nah. Wrong.

To above poster, putting pips into shields doesnt make them charge faster, just ensures your sys capacitor has charge.

Was changing and testing different loadouts and ships yesterday, and having to wait for the shield to fully recharge (I'm not wasting SCBs when docked) was rather annoying.

Perhaps make recharging shields at a station similar to buying ammo. It could cost something like

(total capacity in MJ - current charge in MJ) * 5

I'm ok with "penalizing big ships" or whatever. As it is, with no "levels", a lot of players just make it a race to an Anaconda. Being the biggest and most ship should make it more rare, not a goal to achieve simply because it's the biggest and best. There should be plenty of drawbacks to owning a huge ship with huge shields to balance obvious benefit of owning one.

When your shields actually go down, putting 4 pips to system does make shields charge faster - though when they're up you're right, doesn't make a difference as long as you've still got power left in Systems. Having more than 1 pip in systems does make shields absorb more damage though. The more pips you have in system, the less likely you are to run into the problem that shields are down for 10 minutes.

In a combat situation, it makes sense and it is working as intended. But in a station ? Forcing you to watch your shields recharging just because "balance" ? That's .

I've made a similar thread after 1.3 went live. I've made the mistake of twiddling the load out on my Python.

I refuse to play ED until this is fixed. If the game so blatantly doesn't respect my time, why should I respect the game?

Also of note is the fact that a flat recharge rate for ALL ships for ALL shield generator sizes and classes in ALL conditions (in combat, out of combat) is just stupid and a bloody boring design. Have some variety for goodness sake!

Youre right...I was speaking more in general. Yes, I would be fine with stations giving a boost to shield recharging for everyone, especially considering how easy it is to knock shields off line when switching modules, etc.

Huh?

Why do people keep saying it takes 10mins to recharge their shields?
-
Im running all A grade gear on my python and I'm running well over the power limit, turn boosters off and it's 2mins max to bring them online, then use 1 low grade shield cell to bring them up to full, , all smaller ships I've flown do it in 1min tops
-
Unless your flying an anaconda this shouldn't be happening and even then i doubt it takes that long

We can refill our ammo, repair and refuel our ship, but we cannot recharge our shields to full. This doesn't seem logical.
