PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

So it won't run on PC? How, please tell, does this not also "fit" PC?

Come on, this is simply a business deal and any other excuse or claims of "fit" is total rubbish.

Stand down Commander. Let's agree that Elite: Dangerous is an awesome game, and getting better every day. And that FD has shown an astute ability to go where the new money is first, and not considering informing the old in a timely fashion.

Communications is in my opinion FD's greatest weakness. But I'm getting used to it, and am focusing on playing the game which is indeed getting better and better.

Let the boners bugtest the CQC... We'll get it soon enough. :)

I was also wondering this. So far http://lavewiki.com/cqc seems to think that it is a separate "world" and I'd agree.

I think I saw MB say it is separate though because it is early access (think initial combat build etc). I am not sure how it would "fit" in normal ED if you suddenly could just change to arena mode (and if you had to fly half way across the galaxy to enter arena mode well that sucks). I guess it could be positioned as a "simulator" or something in-game but that is a bit meta :)

Is Elite Dangerous transitioning to being the "console Space sim"?

With the release of the new E3 trailer not only have Frontier formally announced the Xbox 1 release but they've also announced this CQC(Arena) update is coming to the XB1 before us humble PC users get it.

Now while I get that Microsoft might have paid for this deal and maybe this is a one off. Here's my conspiracy theory, take it as you will.

We know that Star Citizen is getting its(very tentative) release in 2016, the critical reception to Elite:D PC edition also hasn't been exactly overwhelming, phrases like inch deep, mile wide got bandied around a lot at launch and even a big update like Powerplay hasn't generated any notable positive buzz outside the ED circles. It's not been bad but most journalists seem to have given it more of a passing nod than anything else.

We also know that Star citizen has out and out said as far as it's concerned Consoles are not going to be a thing for that game, they don't reckon the current generation could even handle it(looking at their expected Hard drive requirements almost absolutely not).

This obviously left a market gap in terms of a console space sim which ED is now filling, the question is if ED will try to make this their primary market focus now in order to mitigate the effects of upcoming competitors that are going to snatch a lot of players from the PC version and have we as PC players been duped into bankrolling what might become a mainly console game(something which would never ever have sold if it was pitched on kickstarter that way).

Microsoft has supported many game studios including FD. In many ways we wouldn't have ED if it wasn't for Microsoft help. We are backers yes, but the kickstarter money isn't the only money it took to make the game. Everyone needs to look at the bigger picture here.

I n I believe FUN beah natural fit fah EVERY gamer.

-.o Got to make sometin exclusive - anger o existing fan base offset by money made fram forced-financially-motivate-exclusivity.

Just say de truth Frontier mons - tis ok. Yuh had to make most money from launch. Notin bad wid makin money. It aal bout ou we spending it.

PR talk treatin bredren an sistren like dey fools tho?

Gud job :D
huh?

I personally think it be fun to have to travel around to enter into tournaments. i think it ruins the whole idea of building a vibrant universe by having this put into a seperate game.

What a load of nonsense

We’ll be working with an all-new audience, but that doesn't mean a change in direction for the game, nor does it mean slowing development on the PC version.

I might be crazy but I can't help but smell the hypocrisy.

Sorry FD but have NONE or you guys ever heard of the Care Quality Commission? The "CQC" does not have a sterling reputation in UK health circles.....

Is it me or am i the only one who immediately thought this?

Is it an in 'FD' joke to bash the geriatric '84ers in arena play against the youngsters?

If you're that way inclined, "CQC" should be the least of your concerns- apparently, "ED" also has a very unfortunate meaning as a medical complaint too, you know. That said, the language filter won't let me post the obvious phonetic pronunciation of "CQC", which refers to a related body part :D

Given the noise on this forum for months, I am astonished that anyone could come out with such a position. It is clear that there are lots of folks who agree with it. And lots who violently disagree with it. And a bunch of people in the middle at various shades of grey. I am enjoying playing it, but awesome it ain't, yet. To much is wrong and missing for it to be awesome. Awesome potential, undoubtedly. Awesome as it is, no.
