PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

You are aware that none of us play on a server right?

All the FDev servers do is match make and send numeric data concerning markets, etc. to our Peer to Peer client?

This is basically a game that match makes various players to play between their own client...so it would be 'possible' for everyone to play together. The Xbone players will be playing right next to the Open players who are also playing right next to the Solo players...except they won't be matched to each other in a given instance.

The reason this game has to keep the Xbone players playing separately is because they will constantly have to fork and reduce the clients between everyone and XBone because of Microsoft's Quality Control requirements.

To reiterate, this game runs on peer to peer technology...no player is playing on a server. Servers are only used for matchmaking and pure data exchange..prices, etc.

oh your right of course and i wont argue but like i said thats down to Microsoft not FD im not blaming them for the seperation i like you wish the xb1 players could play open play with us all (it would certainly be less headache for the devs

This is a lost fight, the best games are about gameplay and not graphics.

Well, that's the main course. Gameplay on a console is quite not very complex, is it? Besides, what can a console do a pc can't do better?
PC problem is its hardware price. It's the only problem, really. But watch what's happening in Japan now. They're releasing more and more big franchises on pc too, if not first sometimes, because the fanbase is apparently migrating a lot.

Console games are as bugged as pcs. Console are now even more heavily connected than pcs. They are basically less capable, less powerful, less functional pcs with all the downs and none of the ups.

I can't see a problem with this myself (& I paid for alpha access in the kickstarter).

FD gets money from Microsoft AND gets to stress test the Xbone P2P process.

It will also probably get a lot of Xbox users drooling for the full price release...

soory to dissapoint but that was confirmed (though that may change over time, we are yet to know, would be nice though i agree)

It's never been officially confirmed. I follow the dev tracker religiously :)

The official status has always been we'll see. The only problem is to do with patch updates as they need to go through qc at microsoft.

We hate PVP Arena mode, we don't want it, never wanted it, never will :mad:

Why do xbox get it before us, that's not fair we want it NOW :mad:

Make up your mind folks :p

I know, ever since the news broke I've not stopped laughing.
Karma slapped me for it, but so was worth it.

(Karma being, my HDD with ED on just died - having to download the game again to another drive. Still worth it ;) )

You need to copy that one and move it to the Open vs thread! Just saying.

semantics.. its a matter of common practice with xbox live for years (always has been) i agree their newer biggest titles on XB1 are finally getting some cross platform treatment.. they classed ED as an independent game and threw it in their new preview window program plus did you notice NONE of their independent titles are getting that cross platform treatment. (not yet at least) only their 1st party aquisitions

I'm disappointed to see FD go in this direction, but then again I am happy with Elite pre powerplay , its not the perfect game but its beautiful and certainly I got my $60 worth out of playing it.

What FD decides to do with Elite is none of my business, however I think FD is being over optimistic about the console crowd, and underestimating the difficulty it will be to keep both crowds happy both technically and community wise. Fundamentally the players playing PC specific games are a very different crowd than the console specific crowd, of course there are gamers that overlap, but Elite appeals mostly to the far side of the PC spectrum, you know the Space Sim/CRPG bunch, the console crowd also tends to like games that are pick up and play and rely on fast twitch reactions and instant rewards, all of which Elite doesn't really currently cater towards.

So you see the problem is if FD goes towards console style then they will lose alot of PC players, and if they lean too much towards PC they will make xbox players bored. Now I could be wrong - but I don't think Xbox players will be as okay with grinding T6 trading runs for hours and hours to just get a new FSD drive or something. You look at things like destiny and they are literally like action games on steroids.

I hope FD keeps with the PC first ethos, I think it will in the long run keep the PC players around, continue to get more PC players and also find the xbox players who are okay with the gameplay in Elite, trying to appease xbox players by catering to the fast twitch crowd will lead Elite to become like a used prostitute at the end of the ordeal...

(its a stereotype and I am aware that there are complex players and complex games on the console, and my myself am a big Final Fantasy fan which is always console exclusive, being a dual platform player - I am however aware of the differences in fundamental gameplay between console and PC, I mean nobody would say Zelda was a bad game, but I don't think an ultima/divinity player would be happy to see Ultima becoming like Zelda, and I doubt Zelda player would enjoy Zelda becoming like Ultima.

Not opposed to PvP arenas per se, but for me all I see is another in a string of online PvP games or modes wherein he with the least lag wins, not he with the most skill. It's why online PvP doesn't do it for me these days. How are they going to even make this work properly within the P2P framework? Limit your ability to participate to only fighting those with whom you can achieve a certain standard if connection similar to how the instancing supposedly works?

You missed a word out, Michael, so I fixed it for you.

It's called a bait & switch. I trust FD less and less each day.

Business making financial decisions shocker...

I'm so tired of all the complaining and pointless self centred bitter drivel on here.

I'm beginning to see the biggest problem with the kickstarter approach is some backers who seem to expect the moon on a stick or several moons in the case of elite. And yesterday too!

I'm really so tired of it all, is there a "pointless negativity "/"offended by business doing business things" filter?
