umm what?

XB1 version is cheap at the moment, as it states in your source.

Elite: Dangerous is being offered at a lower price to customers who buy it during the Game Preview Program

For the amount of sheer entertainment value I've derived from the game I would have been willing to pay 10X+ the price I've paid. This game is underpriced in my book. Also - this game wouldn't be the same w/o a HOTAS, throttle and keyboard - I'll never play it on the XBOX.

Yeah, if you look at it quantitatively then it's definitely been good value over the long run. I must've played well over 200-300 hours + since alpha. Most other games these days are designed to bore out at 6-8 hours and don't really offer good value for me.

The only thing slightly cheeky here is that other cross-platform play (MacOSX) was just included in the original purchase FOC. I guess the $30 here is the "Microsoft Tax" (although as I wrote this, I got an email with a $5 discount, but still).

Oddly enough when I signed up to the PC version during it's version of the "game review program" I had to pay something like double to retail amount for the privileged. Smacks of desperation to me.

that is a proper smack in the face..... another smack is that this game turned in to a arcade....nice......thx fronteer for ruining elite.

The words you are looking for are "market opportunity". ED sells well and has a huge player base. Starting with a low entry point now will boost the Xbone player base.
I doubt FD are in money problems.

How can the game be ruined????

You play how you want, when you want...& soon on a platform you want.

No one is forcing anyone to play CQC or any other addition that they have added or will add!!

Be interesting to see how the xbox version works re controls. I play on PC using an xbox 'style' controller which works great for me. But I also use a lot of keys on the close by keyboard! Which also works fine for me

But I can't see how the same game in full could be played with just a controller. Presumably the xbox version will need 'simplifying'?

That's rumoured (neither confirmed nor denied) to be the reason why we're limited to two fire controls and for them ruling out a third - because of the need to keep it compatible with console controllers.

This seems odd, I mean already with control support on pc it would not be tricky to hold down a button to fire firegroup 3-4 and so on, so seems a bit odd. or for that matter just fire those groups with other buttons?

Edit: That said I suppose it could be argued that while you can, you would lose control over speed and ease of user of other things so yeah, dunno. Maybe, but it is unfortunate if it is such.

I imagine lots of context sensitive button prompts and probably an action wheel similar to how Bioware do conversation wheels.

Don't see the problem myself. It's not the end price that it'll be and it's only a preview.

Personally I paid a lot more than that as a backer.
