Players will require XBox Live Gold subscription to play multi-player E: D on XBox One.

Presumably like the PC version it will need a constant online connection which would require xbox live and a subscription. To be fair if this is an issue that issue should be with MS not FD.

GTA online is free to play (After purchasing GTA V) but needs xbox live.

Personally I don't have a problem with paying for xbox live, it has much better service delivery than the free provision of Sony PS. As always you get what you pay for.
If I get any down issues with Xbox live (including updates) I demand a refund. To be fair they pay. I do the same with Sky TV, who also fair play, offer part refund on that months subscription.

Controversially I would like ED to have a monthly subscription as it would apply some consumer pressure. As it stands having paid for the game in full if I stop playing ED if has little consequence.

Good points all. Don't agree with you on pc subscripton though. :)

Because they don't have a PC perhaps. I Have both but will play Elite on PC only. Other games i prefer to play on Xbox.

Yeah. As I commented earlier, the only valid point.

Destiny, for example, was (is) playable without the full Live subscription. You could still see other players so the constant Internet connection was active (and you couldn't play without Internet, even "Solo"). You just couldn't co-op/PvP without the subscription.

Sounds promising.

I'm not screaming. Are you screaming. I'm merely trying to understand the nature of financing E: D.

No you certainly aren't screaming per se, and if you were I couldn't hear it. It's an expression I imagine most people are familiar with. You're familiar with Chicken Little? It's a story that's been running through my mind all day reading threads complaining about the XBOne release of what's not even an complete game. Your thread isn't the worst offender by far I've seen today, but it wouldn't hurt to probably research what Xbox Live is before assuming that means E : D is now pay to play. You jumped to conclusions a bit fast here.

Not quite sure I understand. Are you saying that you don't need the xbox Live subscription to play E: D?

I said I have an Xbox One and I dont care about shelling 60 dollars for a subscription for a console to allow multiplayer, cause apparently thats hard to understand. Now I have E: D on xbox one as a Third Copy, just cause.

Thanks for contributing.

Are you guys all new to Xbox?

You do not need any sub to play online. You need to sign up an Xbox account. It is free. They call it silver. Now the game can possibly require you to purchase a gold account. Has there been any official announcement that you need a gold account? $60 per year or even less, right now they are $35-$45 on Amazon.

This forum loves to get all worked up over nothing. And no I am not new here...

I've never had an xbox, but from what I have read, you would need the Live subscription to play. But, as I've said earlier, I will happily stand corrected.

Can any xboxer confirm that E: D is playable on the free "silver" account?

If you look at the Xbox page it does not say it requires a gold account, all it states is that you will need to register a free account with Frontier. If it required any form of sub or pay it is required by law to be stated.

You do need a gold account to access multi-player though, as per every game on xbox one and using xbox live. On playstation its the same way.

Thanks. I have no idea what Xbox page you are referring to. Could you please link/source it?

Are you trying to find reasoning to bash E: D cause you know its Microsoft's policy to have a payable subscription based service to maintain their own servers for Xbox One. So yes you have to pay for multi-player.

This plus if you do need Gold you only have to buy one subscription and it'll cover all profiles on the gold members Xbox 1.

OK sorry yes you need gold to play online multiplayer. That is all gold gives you, oh and a free game or two every month. Silver allows all other online activity except playing online multiplayer. Now does ED-Xbox require gold or would you be playing in solo if you only have silver? That's the question. Personally I have gold and love it. Like I said it's less than $50 once a year, free games, I got Massive Chalice most recently. It's less than $5 a month... who cares!

Point taken. :)

Ok. So xboxers pay (but they were paying already), and pc'ers don't. Fair enough.

If xboxers are happy, I'm happy. I'll be sticking to my pc.

We don't pay for antivirus($40-$60), game subs($30-$100). Just saying our $10-$60 is like PC's antivirus. Maybe thing've changed since 2000(when I was a PC player) but I doubt it.
