PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

Great move for FD and ED, especially on consoles, tho myself I've no interest!

Crux for me remains...is the ED we were sold during kickstarter / Dev Diaries going to be a reality or no? They're still far from delivering on the KS promice.

Some more details about CQC:

No mention of a Cobra and yet there is a Cobra in the trailer :S

6 month wait confirmed. It's insulting for FD to say it's to beta test the CQC module. It's not, it's a 6 month exclusivity deal. To do this with a kickstarted game is taking the micky, to claim it's to beta test it for our benefit is deceitful. If it was a true beta test it would last "As long as it has to" (remember than one FD???) it doesn't HAVE to last 6 months. It's been sold to Microsoft for 6 months worth of exclusivity, END OF STORY!

Anyone happy about being lied to? How are certain fans spinning this one? (got most of them on my ignore list, I think I'd get banned if I saw their defense of this one).

Just tossing it out there, but isn't Elite: Dangerous on Xboxone pay to play? I mean the monthly subscription?

Is this a sign of things to come for the pc version?

There's no subscription for the Xbox version, you can play solo with a silver Xbox Live account. For open and group play you need a Gold Live account.

If Frontier can sew this into the universe by making Pvp bases where you can fly in and compete. Which it seems like you can from the xbox video.

It does look that way but we'll have to wait and see. If so, I wonder how widespread the arenas would be? One in every system, one every 20LY? Or is it one at every starport so you just click a button in the menu and off you go?

I am pretty sure "wingmen" = "all players on your team".

I would like to know if CQC is going to work in Solo i.e. against NPCs. From what I've read so far it's looking like the answer is no, but we should learn more on Wednesday. So far FD have kept all gameplay in all 3 modes and I would be surprised and very disappointed if they kept CQC Open/Group only.

FD have said they want to do them right

Unfortunately I don't believe a word that comes out of FD's mouth. I do not believe they want to do them right in the slightest. I don't believe they want to do anything right, I think they want to do whatever makes them the most money. That's it. Everything else be damned (including their reputation which is pretty shorted sighted but common in the money hungry).

As Kickstarter and Beta/Gamma backers we helped create ED, but that does not demean the contribution from those groups that will maintain ED through further funding, we don't have more of a "right" to the game than console players if the funds they bring helps keep the game going and developing for us PC players.

The consoles get CQC, basically Arena Commander for Elite, for 6 months whilst the PC will get other updates in the lead up to the game launching properly in console land at which point all versions will probably be brought into line. From here on out will probably be the paid expansions and the end of the "free" updates. I'm neither mad nor angry at FD for making prudent business decisions that will ensure the upkeep of my current favourite game, there's no sour grapes to be had when you look at the bigger picture and the ensured survival of the game we all come here to discuss.

That first bullet point is interesting. It mentions having a wingman... I really hope that includes NPC wingmen!.. as that is something people have been wanting since day one :)

Yes, it's talking about the rest of you wing; ie other CMDR's.

Looks great to me, will add something new to the elite universe and could be awesome if well integrated.

.. err how to you expect to play a PvP mode game in solo? There would just be you there.

Where does it say 6 month wait?

Edit: sorry misread office blurb. Could be 5 months though ;)

I said this elsewhere as a reaction upon seeing it, relevant here so repost:

...So the XBox One players actually get the "Dangerous" part of Elite, all the while we've been playing the Space Grinder Tycoon. :D

Honestly, the latest bullshot is nice to watch, but if the arena combat thing does come to PC, it might be the only thing that brings me back to the game anytime soon.

It's basically everything good about the game, the best parts, all in one dedicated mode, without all the time-sinks and grinding.

It should be the current pvp community who've put 100's of hours in to the game testing it though. Seems like a slap in the face tbh, especially to the kickstarter/alpha/beta players

The "current communty" ought to have developed a thick set of cheeks by now for the amount of slaps they've already had, because there are plenty more to come. :D

Most calm and sensible statement I've read on this thread, and my sentiments as well.

Like I said, against NPCs. I know it's being touted as PvP but there's no reason why they couldn't implement it in Solo (e.g. as a sort of training ground). It would be the first gameplay element that FD have introduced that is closed-off to Solo players.

Agree with all of this but I don't see why the free updates (i.e. .x patches) would end.

I feel slightly disappointed that the supposed PC Gaming thingy at E3 turned into "yay for XBox ". That said I have no problems with CQC going off to the xbox lot first. CQC will attract a certain type of player and I'm happy that they get something. Although that trailer was a load of CGI CQC LOL.

just a quick question here.... If they can play with a silver xbox live account (I assume this to be a free account essentially) but can only play SOLO, then does that mean unless they upgrade to a gold account (I am assuming this is a subscription account) they won't be able to play the CQC content?

So essentially if they want to play in OPEN they need to have a gold account... Is this also going to happen in the windows PC version where we will be required to pay to play in open?

Oh nice looking trailer :D

So I almost never wade into these arguments as they rage, but what the hell!!!!

Q) Do I think this is a M$ exclusive deal so FDEV can get ED onto the XBOX one?
A) Yes I do.

Q) Do I think this means FDEV have forsaken PC/MAC for XBOX and we will now be left to rot.
A) No I do not.

Q) Do I think we should have got CQC at the same time as XBOX?
A) Yes I do, but I realise that is quite naive in a world where a relatively small publisher is trying to get the title on the platform of a giant. FDEV will have had to sell a bit of their soul to get in there and they'll be hoping that they get a return on that bit of soul that lets them keep the team together financially and carry on building the game. Their stakeholders will want to see financial returns and growth and this move helps secure a future for the game for longer.

Q) Do I feel betrayed by FDEV?
A) No not really. I feel a bit grumpy that I have to wait to have a go at CQC, but I just cross my fingers and hope that any money etc they got out of the deal will allow Elite Dangerous to continue to be actively developed.

Q) Do I think FDEV should fess up and tell us this is an exclusivity deal and that they sold that bit of their soul to secure a future?
A) Yeah, but an NDA agreement was probably a part of satan's contract ;)

I shall remain calm and look forward to the day we can play CQC. How many years did I wait for ED??? I think I can wait a few months for something I didn't even know I wanted lol.

-How does that stack up against the people who have already paid a price for BETA Access i wonder?
