PVP arena mode confirmed - xBox Trailer

To me it seems Frontier is more interested in making money than making a good game for their fans. All the resources spent on the Xbox version could have instead been used to improve the PC version. What we see here is that Frontier diverted resources from PC version to implement an Xbox version on the backs of PC backers money. Powerplay was a buggy mess of a release, perhaps because of the push for Xbox version release date?

PC backers don't have the game they paid for, and if it is ever delivered we will have to wait even longer now because of console version.

Achievement Unlocked! You've lost a fan.

Could not believe this when i read this post today.
Very disappointed tbh. thought pc was to be 1st to try all new features/game modes whatever.
paid £100 twice (1 for my bro) at early beta,
feel like i've been shafted as xbone get to try this close quarter combat thing before us,the older guys, who would probably spot the bugs in cqc far quicker than the xbone kiddies,
doesnt make sense imho.

meh...
Coops.

Calm down ladies and gents. There is a $5 voucher in your email that can be redeemed should you make the right monetary decision and buy xbone version. The email should have given us (the PC backers) the xbone version for 5 bucks.

The problem people have with it is that the game has very little meaningful content .......

I keep seeing this, but I swear I read ED was once described as a "sandbox" game - which, to me means you get to use your own imagination and not rely on the Devs all the time.
Most of the fun I had in Freelancer was the stories my mind made up while I was hauling diamonds about or challenges I made for myself.
It is a small part why I like ED so much, as me and Daisy (My white Type 9) meander about the galaxy, my mind is in overdrive or I'm spotting things I've not seen before.

Oh well, chances are it was just my imagination running away with me ;)

What a waste of development time. If they wanted to make COD Space Warfare they should have said I would never have backed.

More and more of the core game is taking a back seat to these frankly uninspired and badly thought out updates. I mean "deathmatch arena" call it what you want its a pathetic attempt to cash in with the COD crowd and is completely un-original. PP is just a mess and not even worth the time investment for hardcore players there's just no depth to it.

Where are the promised 30 ships of which 25 should already have been in game! Passenger transport is still missing and only really involves FD writing a new mission description but they don't want to legitimize the Orca, they'd much rather spend time creating 6 month "xbox" exclusives of which CQC will not be the last, I expect more content now to head to Xbox first with us PC and Mac players getting the left overs once the console players have decided the games direction.

"CQC is an exception to this simply because it fits the Xbox audience so well" - MB

Michael, here's a thought: Less grindy play, varied missions, more ships and weapons, fixing bugs... maybe these would "fit the PC audience so well".

I don't think we will see the disappearance of grindy play from this game during our lifetime... :(

The missions ARE more varied now... the mission pay is still ridiculous though... 28k for a mission that requires ELITE status? As an Elite player, I wouldn't even do assassinations for less than 500k.

Here's an idea for plasma weapons: Make them use fuel from the tank instead of a very limited ammunition counter! Same for particle beam weapons, who could also be added as fixed-only fittings for large and huge hardpoints.

I'm confused about the voucher. Is it just a 5 quid off in the frontier store or is it 5 quid off the game, because XBOX still wants me to pay 24 quid for it. Also about the Arena thing. I think it's kinda cool how Froniter hope to go down the E-Sports route. I'd deffo watch some top pilots with a beer in hand :)

Don't get me wrong it's still a good game but to be able to make those stories there should be a decent mission system.

Take ranking for example, transport a few tons of something to a diff system to become a baron. It's woefully inadequate.

It might be good for the average player who doesn't play often but even those will run up against the same problems as other players who play a lot but it will be in a few months time.

Nope, you have to buy the xbox version first to be eligible for the 5 quid voucher.

I wonder how much Microsoft dumped on Frontier to make this "exclusive."

I mean I can see it being exclusive by not letting PS4 owners play, but PC users? Really?!

Question: I'm not a console guy, so don't really know much in terms of how they work in Elite, do they operate as single player and log into multi player servers? Does the single player just run off the disk and has no connection to the main servers?

And if they do connect to the servers like we PC players do, this had better not create even more stuttering! I am assuming Xbox/PC serves = separate?

Tetris must be a tactical role playing dream come true for you then :)

Joking aside, I understand some people can "role-play" to makeup some (non-existant) gameplay depth/mechanic, unfortunately I can't, so I'd prefer actual deep and interesting mechanics in the game.

There's only so long take X from Y to Z will hold my attention. And only so many times I can do, go to X and blow up Y before I've had enough. So in reality I'd like ED to move on a bit from its needlessly thing grind orientate approach to game play, and add some true depth to its space flight, missions, professions and exploration.

I seem to recollect space flight games tens of years ago offered deeper missions than ED does?

My fear is, FD have seemingly embraced this bizarrely thin grindy gameplay with Powerplay, by actually wrapping it up to now promote grind league tables... I'm worried this is all FD believe they need to offer us?

So it is around a 6 month wait then? That's incredibly disappointing. I wish FD would just come out and say this is an exclusivity deal and not a "beta test". The PvP mode better not come with any bugs if it's in "beta testing" on xbox for 6 months. I'm growing worried that FD is becoming more deceptive. Where are the passenger missions? We have the Orca and Dropship that are still useless.. I understand some fans are nasty and say horrible things, but that doesn't mean you should cut off communication with people who really want to see the game succeed. Hoping we here more about Elite on PC tonight at E3...

I have a question: What does the PC being the lead platform even mean at this point? Will we get the major updates/paid expansions first? It would be strange if they released updates simultaneously and then continued to give consoles exclusive content that we won't see for half a year. This whole thing is a bit dishonest.

i laugh when i think back to the people that said "buying skins helps develop the game".... yes for xbox content lol

The Elite galaxy is not a sandbox. It's an art gallery. You can wander around looking at stuff but you can't do anything with it. "Just use your imagination" isn't good enough. If I just wanted to imagine everything I could do that without spending money on a game.

RP'ing my own storyline is fine but the game needs to provide tools to facilitate that.

I wonder if FD would take my voucher and apply it towards a PC ED game? If they did that with everyone's coupon I bet it would be a huge success, might even spawn console versions and timed exclusives......

Oh, wait.

Im sure there's some exclusive PC news coming later, so chin up and enjoy. It's only a game. If it's getting you down, go smell some flowers, play with your kids, stroke a dog.

I'm on it!

On a serious note. the disappointment is still there. But I somehow chuckled when I saw the news in a very bitter way, I couldn't even get mad about it...

All that that stuff Braben talked about with his Gold Rush economy example was just a pie-in-the-sky line to get pledgers to believe this thing was the Second Coming and hand over cash.

I listened with enthusiasm to everything DB was saying. Along with reading the DDF. I knew it was ambitious, but that is what I expected from the franchise.
It's now very easy to become angry with DB and FDev. We have many opinions and second-guesses on where E D is going, what it will become. Best thing to do is step back and wait, and keep your fingers crossed.
