So, what are the exciting E3 announcements?

It is quite sad that this is what was put in last Dev update

Next week brings E3 and various parts of the team have been working hard to support our announcements and presence at this show. We’re quite excited for what will be shown!

Thanks

Michael

And all it appears to be is talking about the xbox version and CQC, really thats it....no big news at all etc

I feel a bit like FD are like my parents. I've been talking for ages about how I really want this new bike. This fantastic bike. They know we want the bike (in this case news about the paid-for expansions). It's my birthday. I leave to go to school. I see Dad in the living room and he winks and says, 'You're going to enjoy your birthday surprise son!' Your uncle phones you up and grins 'Oooh, I wish I could tell you.... I'm 'squeeing''.

Oooh I think, it's the BIKE!

I get home, both my parents jump out with the cake! Supriiiiiiiiiiiise! Happy Birthday!!! All my friends are there and it's fantastic.

'Time for your present! Happy Birthday Son!'

Pair of socks. With a bike on them.

Thats what I'm going to do to my two daughters, bless them- for all those sleepless nights and poo / wee cleaning.

That's just how I feel. tbh if they hadn't have dropped these hints, I would never have even looked at E3.

CQC isn't going to be released for another month on XB1, so right now ED is absolutely identical on all 3 platforms. The XB1 is in "beta" mode, so ships are 100Cr each, and you get 100,000Cr to start with (I think. I've only really had half an hour on it.). Clearly that'll change to normal behaviour when they shift onto the main server once the XB client is out of beta. To me it looks pretty close. Some glitches in the controls, the odd graphical element in the wrong place, the odd discontinuity in the sound, and Open seems to cause it to crash quite frequently, but it's definitely playable in Solo. I would imagine that CQC will be on the PC/Mac version within a month of that. Right now, the focus is on fixing the bugs in 1.3.x on all platforms. I have a feeling that CQC being betad on the XB1 is more to do with the fact that it's the beta platform right now. I think it'll be fun. I suggested it back in Gamma, and it would provide a more controlled PvP mode for them to hone the NPC AI too. :)

I still don't understand how giving Xbox exclusive content is going to help sales?
Microsoft (and Sony for that matter) are pretty well known for timed exclusives. I can't imagine that Frontier would have decided unilaterally to deploy CQC exclusively on Xbone. The more likely scenario is that Microsoft required some sort of exclusive for the game to launch on their platform (and gain advertising at E3 from them), and CQC was a good fit for that.

I'd also like to know why Xbox gamers only pay half as much as I did for the game. Indeed some payed a lot more than me.
Early access on most platforms tends to come at a lower price than the 'release' version. It may be that there was a stipulation in the contract that Frontier have with Microsoft that limits the price they can sell the game for. At that point it would be a business decision as to whether it's worth being a 'launch' title versus taking a unit price hit. It's nothing personal, it's just Frontier trying to survive and grow as a business. I paid £300 for this game, and I'm happy that more people get to play it. :)

Someone dug some stuff up here from a DB interview;

From the slightly amusingly named Arstechnica

http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2015/...-e3-xbox-exclusives-and-qa-with-david-braben/

We then took the opportunity to hit David up with our entire list of questions about what’s coming next for Elite: Dangerous, and first on that list was whether there would be more free updates, or if next up are paid updates like the much-discussed planetary landings.

“There is more free stuff to come, but I don’t want to pre-announce what they are!” laughed Braben. “But, yes, there are paid things to come as well. I’m very, very excited about where we are.” Braben was unfortunately cagey on actual upcoming features we might see, but he did re-confirm that both the planetary landings and third-person walk-around-the-ship mode were coming—and, importantly, that those features would come to PC first.

Speaking of anticipated features: we asked Braben where the rest of the promised ships were, since there are still multiple announced-but-unreleased ships like the Panther Clipper and the Federal Corvette. “There are more to come,” Braben said slowly, “and we haven’t announced when those will be, but they are in plan.”

“Are there any ships that haven’t been announced that are still coming?” I asked.

Braben smiled, then nodded and said, “There’s more.”

yeah, except that you aren't the only one who asked for something, and your wishes don't reflect the wishes of all PC gamers. I'm super excited about CQC mode, this is exactly something I've wanted, and believe it or not, the new gamepad centric UI is something else I've really wanted, (I play with xbox controller on pc). I've heard people on these forums saying that PC gamers are asking for "passenger missions and bug fixes", that would also be neat, but compared to arena combat? seriously? I'll take arena combat any day.

Bethesda stole the show anyways lol. I'll be taking a very long break from Elite when Fallout and Doom get released.

If we go by video views on Youtube, Square Eninx stole the show with FF7, it had have more than double the views of any other E3 trailer last I check.

Would take Arena combate if it was an actual part of the game rather than a add on.

This was a good E3 overall, each conference had good things to show, except Nintendo which is disappointing. Nintendo was very disappointing this year, was really hoping for a Metroid... but we got that "thing" instead that nobody wants. Sony was good as usual and Microsoft was way better than their last few E3s, Square Enix showed Kingdom Hearts 3 which was good enough for me.

Bethesda was the best though, got to see everything I wanted. Fallout 4, Dishonored and Doom and they all look fantastic.

True. They actually said things would be there. And lead people on with things like the DDF with long summaries that could lead people to expect those sorts of things. And instead they don't deliver half of that. Cut features that was promised without warning (in non-clear terms as an afterthought in a sentence). All the while not saying ANYTHING about what we can then expect instead... Yup. Nobody has any right to complain.

I don't think you quite get my drift... from the hints dropped and the excitement and clues, the general idea was that The Big News would be about the first paid expansion. That's what almost everyone thought was being hinted it.

I have absolutely no problem with XBOX Exclusives, New Gamepads or CQC (I'm looking forward to it actually). What I mean is the clues hinted at something we were all dying to know, instead it was something nice (I'd love a pair of socks with bikes on them) but not the Big Prize we thought was going to be unveiled at E3 (news about the first paid-DLC/expansion).

I'm not talking bug fixes or passenger missions, but Planetary Landings or Walking Around Ships... Not the release, just the announcement '3rd Person Mode - Coming December 2016!' sorta thing.

thats simply impossible.
these kinds of announcements work for example with "you know who", Electronic MAss Production, when they tell you that something gets release in december 2016, you know that you will get it. Or atleast 1/4 of it and the other 3/4 are full price DLCs.
FD gives ETAs at best, and thats good. they have an internal roadmap to follow, they just dont know when its ready.
Planetary Landing was hoped to be released within a year after release. Thats still 6 months left. In our current 6 months we got Community Goals, Wings and Powerplay.
Also we know that we will get the CQC before the end of this year.
We dont know what they have ready in their internal builds, maybe they can allready land on prototype placeholder planets, but they need time to work out the planet generation?

Very likely. After all, we can already land on prototype placeholder spacestations. :)

To the OP...Guild Wars 2 started pre-selling Heart of Thorns! Everyone should be super excited!

Their marketing annoys me.... It includes the base game by default yet we all have to pay the same price? :/ Not even €10 off for people who invested in the game on release? That's pretty lame...
