Holy Conflict Zones...

Before 1.3.0.4 I was able to go into conflict zones and pretty much just farm pythons and anacondas. Now I go into the zones, and I'm not even making a profit between repair costs and kills. I'm in a kitted up vulture and it's quite difficult. I see everything from competents to elites now. I even saw a couple elite anaconda's, something I'd never seen before together in a CZ.

Kudos for this, much more interesting and challenging to get those bonds.

Yup, I would agree with that, been in Kadu Mist recently, bloody Anaconda's chasing me when I fly off due to damage,
cost me 600000+ in insurance costs!

Yeah I was at a CZ earlier in a fully pimped PvP FdL and I was having to work hard against the Condas. Especially the Elite and Deadly ranked.

I used a ton of chaff and cells and lost my shields once to an angry mob who literally chased me out of the zone.

You earn your cash in there now. Huge improvement.

This would suggest that maybe the situation hasn't improved :p

I tend to avoid CZ's for the most part these days, too little payoff for cutting through tougher ships compared to RES sites (albeit without the risk of mining asteroids with your face). If the risk of being chased around by Elites has increased then maybe the Bonds could use another buff to compensate for the greater danger. Small steps...

Agreed, it's definitely a big improvement, the higher ranked ships felt much tougher to kill and I had to be very careful when engaging Pythons and Anacondas.
.
I also noted I was getting an extra 20% to the combat bonds. I was fighting in Lavigny-Duval space, although I thought her bonus only applied to bounties.

Did you know combat bonds were doubled with 1.3 release? If you're decent, it's paying in the ball park of bounty hunting now.

I've had a few awesome RES spawns, but never 11 million in 90 minutes good. Maybe 3 mil over an hour. I haven't tried a CZ yet after 1.3.4 cuz I haven't found one, but I was easily making 1 mil in 20 min to a half an hour. Maybe I'm RESing wrong or just don't have the patience to jump in and out over and over again to get the perfect spawn lol.

Yeah, tried both. You get around 70k for a Python kill Bond now, but a Python in a RES can now earn you 200k+ for an easier kill if you're lucky (best payout so far for me is 212k). Other ships scale similarly. Combat bonds still don't quite pay out enough for the risk I think, but it's getting there.

CZ's a great now and hard. I've learnt that it;s best not to pick your side when you first arrive in the CZ (in the middle of anything). Arrive, fly away to a quiet corner and then choose.

I arrived at one in my fully specced very slow Vulture (all A0) shield banks instead of thrust), and promptly got chased out of the system in an almighty barrage of beams from a conda, a python and just about everything else by the looks of it - the moment I chose my side!!!

I didn't even fire a shot! lol!

pre 1.3.04 they were tougher to finish off however they had mostly harmless as a rank. The question is are they just as tough and they just had the correct rank assigned to them (some vultures just took ages to blast) or are they now tougher still and have the correct rank assigned?

70k for a Python? I'm getting 52k for Pythons and 72k for Condas, I managed 7.7m in around 2hrs in my Conda (Shields never dropped so subtract about 30k for banks) What am I doing wrong? o.o

Folks , help me out here please. I went into a CZ yesterday, chose a side and piled in. I took down three or four mid to high rank ships which took what seemed like forever. However, I got no reward in terms of bonds etc. Is this right or am I doing something wrong?

Did you go in a station in the same system to speak to your contact about combat bonds ?

You must do at least 5% damages to have a reward. Once I had to quit a combat zone cause Federal Battelcruiser did to much damages on ships while on federal side.
From time to time I got no reward when destroying Pythons.

Like CZ.
Perhaps not as good as RES for grinding money, but more enemies (no waiting) and a lot of lessons on how to manage my vessel and how to deal with different enemy ships.
BTW, going there with a Python is a bit harsh : any enemy Pythons and Anacondas will come for you. Learned to flee too.

Are you sure nothing is showing up in your left contracts panel? If you chose a side and shot down the red ships, you should also get a message in your upper right screen for every target killed (maybe you hit them but not enough, so NPCs killed the target and you didnt get credit?).

You only get combat bounds if you chose a side to fight for first. After arriving in the conflict zone, go to your right hand panel (where you can set power priorities etc.) and choose the Functions tab. The first entry in the menu should be labeled "Faction" and should say choose side or something. Select it and you will be given the available options. After you choose a side, all vessels on your side are green and friendly and the other vessels are red and hostile. If you kill hostiles you get combat bonds that you have to cash in in the system you got them in, at a station.

I had great fun in a conflict zone last night. Got about 3 mill in 90 minutes. Not the same as old RES farming but it does wonders for your combat rank and is a lot more fun. Really high intensity, non stop combat where you really have to watch your situation.

My advice is to watch the radar and understand how the battle is spread out. if you see yourself near a lot of red dots and not many green, move out of there because you're out numbered. Try to find the big ships when they already have a few of your buddies engaging them.
Also the best target isn't necessarily the big payout 8km away. Sometimes it's the Eagle with railgun's right behind you.
Also do not use your last SCB charge to stay in the fight, that should be reserved for when you're chased out of the place and you fire it to cover yourself until you can super cruise.

Oh and a hint. When you go to a station to reload/repair always check the bulletin board. They usually have good (200 - 400K) missions to kill 5 or 6 targets in the conflict zone. Adds some good earnings onto your evening.

....and just image if every now and then a mission asked you to go to a combat zone and take out a specific ship there? So you'd need to locate it (in the pack), pick your moment, and then destroy it etc. A very high spec ship may even require you to wing up to be sure?

There's so many ways more interesting missions with more depth and variety could be added to this game... Will we ever get them...

...and do we still have these rediculous missions? Yes, we'll pay you to go to a conflict zone and destroy ships... and we even don't care which side's!
