How to sweet talk, recruit and convince a Star Citizen to back ED (Strategies)

Reviews in the software press will get them over..

Very probably they won't be able to stop themselves!!!!!

Exactly, if ED is any good, people will play it at least until the release of SC. If it's very very good, they may get hooked and play the pair!

I've backed both so certainly intend to get mileage out of them both, if indeed they are both good games.

Well, I'm one of those who backed both ED and SC. Over a year ago we had the same discussion as this one on ED's Kickstarter. I'll repeat the core of what I said then: what would make money for ED is selling ships. If SC hadn't sold ships to backers it would not be half of the funding success it is now. I doubt it'd even reached its initial Kickstarter goal.

Ehhhh... With respect, I'd rather not introduce the majority of SC community into ED. Too many of them are pure toxic. I cant even post over there anymore, it makes me sick. The whining, complaining, outright audacious demands and ignorant accusations/arguments. You can feel the entitlement crawling in there.

I agree. The SC community has attracted a lot of bad elements. You don't want those guys to come over here ...

Hi Folks
I want to draw your attention to this post I made in the Star Citizen thread. I ask those of you involved in commenting on the conduct of the forum members of the Star Citizen forum to please refrain from doing so. I ask you, to please return to the topic of the thread. Thanks

In my view they both are already good games based on the simple fact that cockpits don't feel like being stuck to the screen, the dreaded "space window FPS" syndrome.

I was always bothered with that just as I was with FPS games where the gun felt very stiff, for example if you looked up or down you could see more or less of your weapon/hands, Half Life 2 was the first one to have this.

I didn't even bother with X Rebirth because I saw a gameplay video in which your screen was totally inflexible. It is really bizarre how so many devs don't understand what works in game design and why.

As in many things, there are good devs and bad devs. I've always said this about Egosoft. Sometimes at least they have great ideas but their reach has always exceeded their grasp.

Tell them we have a better:

Just kiss them in the face repeatedly until they say Elite is better.
Job done?

:D

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Wow. And the SC bashing continues.

You know, there are plenty of SC backers on the ED forums, me included. We're not all knuckle draggers, you know.

I see Geraldine has already requested any negative comments regarding the commenting on SC backers to stop.

Can we please respect other forums and their users, may who are backers of both games. We're all fans of Space games.

Thanks everyone.

Apologies if wrong impression given, the aquarium was meant to be faintly amusing - nothing against SC or its backers whatsoever. Rather partial to fish too!

In fact, I think (although fairly different games) it's great that FD have some competition in CIG - it can only make both games better.

Actually I don't see it as competition, I just see the potential for two great space games that will help sell each other. The vast scope of exploration in Elite against SC's more structured approach in a much smaller universe but with huge attention to detail. I am just excited to see what DB and CR can deliver.

+1 !!!!!!!

My comment on Star Citizen was meant in jest.
I have just as much pledged there as I do here....but its true that they drive pledges up by releasing 'limited' ships. That is just a fact.

Also remember that Star Citizen has Squadron 42. A full size single player game.
While I always thought David Braben's wider universes were much superior to Chris Robert's efforts, Roberts can't be touched when it comes to defined linear space opera storylines.

His Wing Commander series is still the gold standard in that regard and Squadron 42 will be amazing. There are a lot of people on the SC forums (and there was just a thread there on this confirming it to be so) who have pledged to SC for SQ42 rather than the open universe.

That will probably be one of the biggest differences between the two games, that ED is probably won't have a single player campaign. Pure sandbox, either single or multiplayer.

Thank you. Elite and the Wing Commander series / CR are my favorite childhood memories. Whenever I see insults and trash talk on either turf, it makes me wince and lose just a little of my joy.

About a dozen of my friends are eyeing the ED Beta now, looks smooth as silk..
