wow..is this new??

um.. have 2 gimbled pulse lasers atm. why turrets? don't they have to be aimed rather than self t argeting? as I said before I do not do combat so reallyl don't know answer to my question. feel free to flame me but help me understand also. please.

Turrets are good for big traders... They can take out ships chasing you while you escape.

What ship are you in Greyhawk?

Also be aware that they will also follow you into the station or outpost instance!
.
Three times now I have been chased in and then dropped into the "safety" of the station to find myself under attack again by the same NPC and had to do a fast run to the NFZ
.
Ever since then three things have happened
.
1. I've put the shields back on my freighter
2. Ive put the guns back on my freighter
3. Ive bound a spare button on my stick to "target hostile" so I know what I am up against

Elite: Care Bear is moving towards Elite:Competent and its great

I started playing a bit again after 1.3, mostly been doing some back-and-forth trade runs and briefly checked out mining with drones, 10-15 hours total i reckon.

I've seen nothing of the sort described, only 2 or 3 interdictions in that time (and i'm not complaining).

Is that increased rate everywhere, or just in neutral and hostile space ? The few systems i passed through were all friendly or allied, so could be that.

Start doing some 6 figure missions or high value of "dodgy goods" cargo runs - they'll appear

Alright, so more an activity based than a general increase ?

I wouldn't say that I get interdicted far more than ever even when running empty.

I had to abandon my beloved T6 and switch to an Asp fitted out as an armed mechantman in order to have some chance of getting through to my home station. When lowish level NPcs come at you in singles its bad enough but when they come in wings of three or in nasty big Pythons the dear old T6 doesn't stand a chance. In my Asp however, I might have lost 40t of cargo space but the 60t I have left will get through and I'll collect a few bounties in the process.

What hacks me off the most is that the NPCs are staking out the stations and I get interdicted when I am down to minimum speed just a few seconds from the safe to disengage message. Also does anyone know the range of the Interdictor gizmos. When I tried one out I had to get so close it was daft but the ships that hit me seem to pop out of planets light seconds away.

Yea this is annoying. Had the same npc indterdict me 4 times on a 1 hop route as soon as I escaped he inderdicted again.

Look my slow as hell t6 is still too fast for your crappy cobra don't bother indicting me again let alone 3 more times. Was forced to abandon the route as he was slowing me down too much.

Not sure why they've taught the A.I to grief players its not fun.

to answer the "what ship are you in" question. a T-6. I will change the weapons t o turret as soon as I finish this. hopefully they are more competent than I am as a fighter.

um..already admitted my lack of combat skill or knowledge, what are the turrets called? I do not see anything saying turret. maybe cannons? which ones?

edit. um never mind. I am still stupid. :(

edit 2: do not see where t o select fire targeted only. am looking in screen 4 under fire groups. only see set fire button 1 or 2. sigh

Too true - I went back to my python for a while...

But now my T9 has turrets, chaff and shield boosters... lots of 'em. Oh and a couple of toprdoes.

Less jump range, but more piece of mind.

This!

It might seem like a bad idea to upgrade and kit out a T9 as you lose jump range but A grade components make life so much better. Your heat management in hyperspace jumps with A grade parts is very fast, letting you jump as soon as you possibly can, instead of having to wait for your ship to cool down. You can fit A grade shield boosters and Beam turrets. Better thrusters speed up the docking/undocking process and get you out of mass lock faster. The whole thing is much more manoeuvrable and more pleasant to fly. The trash that interdict you last a matter of seconds. Life is just easier with upgrades, you just have to get over the "I need all D grade components in a trade ship" mentality.

Further to the right after Fire Groups. It's called Functions if I remember correctly.

You'll need to trigger them first (only once, though), so they do need to be in a fire group. Once unleashed they'll keep firing at that target till one of you is dead. Or you stow hardpoints. Or too much distance/hyperspace separates you. Or you select another target.

No prob (learning curve for game not exactly "shallow") - nothing listed in outfitting as TURRETS per se, but under Cannons, Beam Lasers, etc., it'll have 1 of 3 icons: the reticle means fixed weapon, the little atomic symbol means gimballed and the little, well, "turret" icon means it is a auto-targeting turret.

You can set the turret function with the right UI OPTIONS tab to the right of CARGO.

thanks. apparently actually having guns puts fear into npc's. lol not interdicted since .... but having said that like an idiot......standby for baddies probably. lol

I love the new AI.
I am a lot less complacent since I got attacked by 3 Clippers npc who boosted after me while slowly eroding my shields. THe only thing I could do to escape was jump out system.

Very cool.
