went afk, all modules disabled, stuck in res with oxygen running out

Why the hell is this game so little documented? There are so many small ways you can die it's just ridiculous. Once you buy the game you're thrown into a random station with no tutorial. The actual tutorial doesn't explain crap.

Yeah 'cause you clearly need to read a book to know it's not advised to go afk in a hostile environnement, in an expensive ship with no insurrance. Right.

And it's not the first time it happens to you. Okay.

Quick, blame the game for being "so little documented".

AFK in a RES with NPCs flying around in Solo Mode is... ultra-risky. Plenty of changes we had to NPCs - so noone could guarantee a parked Ship w/o Cargo really would be left alone. Doing the same in Open would be even more risky.

Heck, I'm 2200LY out and when I go AFK while in normal space nowhere near any Object - I go FA off, give it a single Afterburner, switch to 4/0/2 Power Distribution, give the ship a slow rotation and deploy Hardpoints (4 Turrets)...
At least then, in the hyper-remote case something (anything) spawns to take me on - at least the Fire-at-Will turrets will give it some run for the money ;)
Call it "Paranoid" mode.

Whenever I flew without Insurance (I did multiple times) - I had my eyes glued to the screen, ready for anything. During such times, I wasn't AFK even for a single second. That would be crazy. Can't afford that in many ways.

With insurance - one can afford to do alot of crazy things (at least once).
Without insurance - one can't afford even a single mistake. Not one.

To the OP:
I agree with your comment about the lack of documentation but I get the feeling that this is by intent so as to make players find out the hard way and get them to ask questions and inform each other of their experiences - encouraging a community.

The question is: are you going to do afk again and without insurance? :)

I'm not unsympathetic to the OP's plight, but to take an uninsured Fer-de-lance into a dangerous region then walk away and leave it there? My mind is literally Boggled™.

Does running out of fuel cause all your modules to shut down? BTW I am in normal space, not supercruise + I have a C4 fuel scoop so I doubt I'd run out of fuel, that thing fills up an 8 ton tank fast.

yes because the powerplant uses fuel to make power

That helps me in that once I enter a station, I fly by the star really close on my way to my destination. During this time period I fill up a good portion of my fuel tank being 8 tons.

I sympathise with your situation, but one of the first lessons I learned in E : D was.. never fly without insurance, because I loaded up my sidey with cargo... and flew straight into the wall of the station on my first launch with 0 cr in the bank.

I've currently got enough cash for a python with some change left over.... but it wont be enough to cover the insurance.... so 4 more rares runs to Lave and back for me

But then if you're in an anarcy system and sitting AFK in a res... I'd shoot you down myself for being stupid.... how long does boost away and log out take?

sadly OP, it's a harsh galaxy... I can only imagine you had too little fuel reserves and so ran out of fuel (as many others have suggested)...

Going out in any ship without having insurance is always risky... Going into a combat situation (RES) without insurance is truely playing russian roulette with a 6 shooter and 5 bullets and letting someone else point the gun at your head and pull the trigger first... I will often end in serious suffering for you...

Okay, so you are in the situation and what can you do about it? IF you do not have any fuel left, nothing you can do really except suffocate...

If you do have fuel then you need to very quickly reactivate your life support, power distributor and reactor... Then you can try and make it back to a station...

The fact you said you went AFK previously in a T9 while launching and it cost you a bucketload of money really is funny to me because that is pretty unfortunate (as you yourself put it)...

There is no need to blame a lack of documentation for your own mistake really... You knowingly left dock without insurance, you went AFK for whatever reason and for however long while you were in a risky area of space and by doing so, you only have yourself to blame...

Take it on the chin, get back into another ship and work yourself back up into that FDL...

I don't get how some people manage to completely lack all common sense. Seriously, OP, how did none of the factors that lead to your predicament (not to mention it happening to you before!) throw up any red flags that would make you say "wait, this is probably going to cost me my ship"?
Don't blame the lack of a tutorial, don't blame the obscure mechanics, this is totally your fault (again).
How did you even get your pilot's licence? I wouldn't trust you with a pushbike let alone a starship.

I went afk after entering a high intensity RES with my Fer-De-Lance that has no cargo racks. It was an very empty RES. I killed 1-2 wanted small fries then stopped my engines and went afk. When I came back I saw that all my modules were disabled and oxygen was running out. I just entered the system and thus do not have a hostile reputation with an of the factions nor do I have any sort of bounty. After trying to power off then on modules, shutting down nonessential modules, retracting weapons, logging out then back in, I am stuck at the spot unable to move with 0:19 seconds of oxygen left. I am aware that in rare cases pirates will attack you regardless of whether you have cargo or not but the thing is I have 100% in hull and modules with no red contacts on radar. Not even security vessels.

I can't pay the insurance cost because I just had enough to buy this FDL, lost a type 9 afking after press launch in a station a while ago (most way to lose 80 million), and spent a ton of credits just to pay the 10x more expensive hull repair bill.

Can someone tell me what in the Milky Way happened to me? Is it my fault or not? I do not want to log in right now because I will suffocate in 19 seconds.

As has been said: fuel.

Otherwise... mate... I feel for you, but that's kind of funny in it's own sick way. TWO ships lost to AFK'ing and now you're back to square one because you flew out without insurance.

Wow... just wow.

1. Blew up uninsured T-9 because you were AFK
2. About to die in uninsured FDL because AFK

Are you going to go for "third times a charm" or do you see the two very important, and quite frankly obvious, mistakes you are making?

And yes, an FDL eats gas for breakfast, over 2T/hour an hour easy. I should know. I've been playing for quite some time and I just ran out of fuel for the first time (main tank, so couldn't jump - still had power from reserve tank) in my FDL the other night, in a system with a non-scoopable star and no stations. I was really distracted talking to friends in Teamspeak and watching another friend (just bought the game) try to figure out how to fly his Sidewinder on my second screen, and forgot to scoop through a few systems on my way to him. Was it my fault? Hell yeah it was. Lucky for me I was in inhabited space and put in a distress call to the Fuel Rats (see sig). However, I'm afraid 19s of oxygen is probably a little too late for you my friend.

No sympathy for you whatsoever tbh. You were plain stupid, there is no fingerpointing outside of yourself to be done here, so suck it up and put it down to a mistake you hopefully won't make.. a 3rd time.

3rd time lucky i hope.. just learn where and when not to go afk, and things you can do to prevent the scenario you've described.
