What kind of person names their planet that?!

Probably Greek intellectuals named the planet, as i believe it's literal translation is a disclosure of knowledge. So rather than the doom and gloom of the end of the world that we associate the word to mean it is a bit more forgiving than that :)

Someone who knows what "apocalypse" actually means!
The word derives from Ancient Greek and means "uncovering", "disclosure of knowledge", or "revelation".
Only if you're of biblical bent will such revelation be associated with the end of the world.
