Should starter systems require a permit?

Just a thought really. After reading about the complete bell that is over in LHS 3447 and Eravate ganking noobs for "the good of the game".

obviously this is to the detriment of the game as any sain CMDR would agree. Now I can't see fdev dropping everything to work on system security, in fact we have been asking for this since 3300.
To me an obvious easy solution for the devs would be to make those few systems permit only. How this would work exactly I'm not sure. That's why I'm posting this :)

my first thoughts are..

-new commanders have a permit until they leave a certain "bubble".

-commanders with a ship in the bubble keep there permit

-an established commander can only gain a permit from the pilot federation if...? And that is where it all falls down. I'm sure there are loads of solutions but I'm typing this sitting in traffic so I'll leave this here for ideas and check back when I get home.

Please se don't turn the thread into a thread about phycos or crime and punishment. Let's see if the community can flesh this idea out as a possible easy solution for the devs withought re writing the security script as we know that's not happening any time soon.

your thoughts please CMDR's.

This would only work if you lost the permit permanently once you've reached Mostly harmless in combat rank - or the one above maybe.

There. Simple, solves the problem, you can't work around or exploit it, very game-y.

Hmmm, like the anti-grief zone in Minecraft but in reverse.. Interesting idea.

I'd prefer a change to the instancing system so that new players only see players with less than 50mil assets until they reach 24 hours in game or something. (Obviously those numbers can be adjusted and obviously this should not prevent wings/private group).

This means PVP and interaction for open play is limited until the players at least know the flight controls and have a grip of the game before getting pounded into dust. I don't really think there should be a restriction on the system access for the older players but I agree something could be done to ensure that the process is a bit fairer and doesn't discourage people from Open or the game entirely.

I honestly don't see it as a problem. If they don't want that sort of game play, they can play on solo until they are ready for it. One cannot have open PvP and not have this happening. Unless you are completely new to video games that have PvP, this is simply a given. I don't believe it needs development time.

2 new-player spawn points is the issue. I don't see any reason why it couldn't be 20, instead. Problem solved.

@Op - No, as Vincent says in the other topic - Devs should actually do something about the pathetic security. Military and Police should be a force to be feared if you are a criminal or lunatic, and a welcome sight when you need help. Sarah Jane talks a lot about increased AI difficulty, yet she seems to have no control over how the police respond and what ranking of ships respond to attacks on innocent cmdrs.

Increase all police ranks in high sec systems to Elite and forces arrive in heavy combat ships. If you have report crimes on, expect a swift and deadly force to arrive and deal with any threats. That will make cmdrs think twice about attacking noobz for lolz in certain regions of space.

I'd be good with this route. System Security should be a big deal.

thats kind of my point. The devs arn't doing a thing about it. Yes people can go to solo but PVP aside isn't that a shame?
Im thinking permits are pretty easy to work in(presumably).
i do like the idea you loose the permit at mostly harmless

Eve's concord are awesome!

Maybe the AI dev's should go play an eve trial and shoot at a random player/station/gate well.... anything you shouldn't in a high security system.

THAT is how the cops should be imho.

Increase the qty of spawn points.
There's no reason to have only 1, or 2 systems producing all CMDRs.

This, have the birth place of CMDR's in multiple starter systems. Since Elite doesn't hold your hand in any way, why not have it be totally random??

The starting system is bad. As soon as i got a better fsd i left it and never came back. Tough luck there some psycho player in elite just like npc.

Some of us like going to eravate and LHS 3447. Me being one of them.

I like going there to chat at the station and hit the RES to see which new kid is being shot at by everyone for a 600 CR bounty, lol.

I didn't start in either of those two systems. I started in Chemaku. So there ARE more than two starter systems. Not sure how many more though.

That being said, more starting systems would be better IMHO. Also, from a lore perspective, wouldn't it make sense that kids grow up to be starship pilots all over the galaxy and not just a few select systems?

I started in Aiabiko, so that's 4 we know for sure.

Not directly related to repercussions for killers, but I dropped into a Strong Signal Source that had an Alliance fleet comprising of something like 6 Anacondas, 4 Pythons and a dozen smaller ships. I was like "holy cow!"

Then I got interdicted by some lunatic murderer four times in the same system before I got frustrated and took him out.

Given I'm pledged to an Alliance Power, you'd think they might have come along and helped out. Problem being, of course, they no longer existed once I exited their bubble. There are some major problems with the game system as it works at present in terms of immersion and continuity.

Edit: Funnily enough, the guy actually joined me in a fight against a Utopian Overseer and I initially thought he was there to help me out as I was Friendly with a minor faction in the system (he had their name at the bottom when I scanned him), but it turns out he was just there to kill (for whatever reason) and attacked both of us indiscriminately. I assume when the ship is wanted, the faction listed at the bottom is who they're wanted by.

It might be related to the quality of first experience. People playing an online game kinda expect to see other players.. one or two jumps from Eravate and its easy to get away from it all ;)

I know of 9 starter systems, likely to be at least a few more out there. I started in Aiabiko
