CQC already broken?

Pretty spot on to be fair. Good job.

I had been planning my own mod for FreeSpace2 using the OOlite ship models created by Griff for a deathmatch game (so I have done quite a bit of my own research on how to create this sort of gameplay and make it fun) - now I don't need to do it because FD are doing it with Elite: Dangerous (and they'll do a far better job than I could).
So now I can concentrate on planning my other 'dream' gameplay in the original 1984 Elite universe - that being a single player combat mission campaign (like X-Wing with Cobras, again using FreeSpace2).

Please. Change that title or request that thread to be closed. We are basically talking about whether a feature barely announced and advertised is broken. That is getting ridiculous. Can not have that on the forum please? :(

People are making predictions based on the current situation and limit info we have, what's wrong with that? Anyway, 'law of headlines', if that makes you feel any better.

Limited info, we have a name, and a teaser video.
How does one speculate on that?
There is no data is it all just personal bias.

As above I seriously asked was CQC out as I though for people to be complaining it is broken we must have see a demo or beta.
But no, just the general wishful thinking on everything must be a failure we find on this forum.

The assumption is that combat in CQC will be close to how we do things already, if that is not the case, then that is even worse. I don't want two completely different combat modes in a single game. Do you? At the very least Frontier should take the better version and apply it 'across the board'.

EDIT: it will be different on surface with powerups and whatnot, but fundamental stuff should be the same. Skill transfer between combat in CQC and the main game should be very good.

I wasn't aware current combat is broken
I really thing I must be playing a different game to everyone else

Does anyone remember Master of Orion 2? It's an old turn based gamed but the way it handled Shields/Armor/Hull/Subsystems was a really good idea.

Nothing inherently wrong, except the fact that this kind of behavior tend to promote a generally negative atmosphere based on virtually no information whatsoever. We have enough pessimistic threads on this forum, what is the point to start speculating and complaining on something we know nothing about?

I always understood broken as something that isn't working.
Whilst it may need revision, it hardly renders the game unplayable.

Working in what way? It's a game, a game has to be enjoyable. It isn't that fun for those who complain about the current meta.

So there's a chance it will be fixed before it's too late? Supposedly Frontier employees are present on these forums.

So it isn't fun for a particular subset of people who meta game thus is isn't fun for everyone use, thus broken, and we shouldn't even click the icon on the desk top because there is no chance anyone any where might still have fun with it meta gaming or otherwise.
Got ya
So glad you saved me there from not having fun with something i previously enjoyed before you pointed out I wasn't meta gaming and so could have really been enjoying it.

Glad you worked it out all by yourself. But no, that's not what I'm saying. Yes, to me the PVP isn't that good and fun. And CQC might inherit all that. That's what we're talking about here. It might have no effect on you, I wouldn't know.

Has anyone played the combat thingy? My only impressions so far are from the video released and it looks like a different beast to combat in the main game altogether. The flight model looks different and faster. Now as we know Frontier (and other developers) have stretched the truth in the past with the video they released for the launch which bore zero relation to the actual game. So how fast does the combat thing fly? Is it quicker than the current flight model? My understanding is you get to pick from only a handful of ships so maybe they have all been altered specifically for the combat thing (not calling it CQC that's just silly sounding).

It hasn't been released, demo, beta or otherwise, so no one has played it

subsystems taking damage from any angle isn't broken, its a function of the weapon penetration stat, bursts suck at it for example, whereas cannons are very good at it.

Whether its dumb or not, is a different question all together :p

more on topic, module targeting is less useful the smaller your ship is, a cobra dies almost as fast as its powerplant unless you are using oversized weaponry.

Is it? I don't agree. The bigger question is - can Frontier provide a balanced PVP mode? Their track record when it comes to balancing things is bad, in my opinion. Lack of confidence in Frontier, that's what this is really about.
