I think people in this thread need to stop getting jacked out of shape because OP made a minor generalization. He's obviously implying something such as "everyone in open who would like consistent player interaction and/or pvp" but he kept it simple, and you bite his head off for it. Any idiot can tell that there's obviously people that don't agree 100%, but OP's point stands.
Instancing is absolutely horrid in 1.3, worse than it was in 1.2. If you're in a wing, it seems to activate some additional matchmaking priority and match you only with other wings when the instance/system begins to fill up with players; presumably in the interest of "fairness". These instancing problems cause a horrendous break of immersion; countless times have I followed people back to supercruise, just not to see them, even if a wingmate can. On 3 occasions I've chased people through 5-10 different systems successfully, just to pull up behind them, interdict them, and drop out to an empty instance with nobody in it. One of the worse issues is actually having to leave your wing, and wing up with
your own enemy, from another group, just so you can see each other for 5 minutes to settle your differences To be fair, I find it ridiculous, never have I seen a p2p game with instancing issues this bad.
I see plenty of players in Open. I don't play pirate and have not yet turned my hand to bounty hunting - neither of which activities are totally reliant on players as targets. Don't get me wrong though - reliable instancing is important to the game, however Frontier are not in control of our domestic internet connections or the P2P throttling practices engaged in by some ISPs, so there is only so much that they can do.
Many people talk of supernodes. Supernodes are a good idea, and would solve most of the problems you see in this threat. Supernodes would also be fairly easy to incorporate into the current system.

Given that not everyone plays in Open, is it fair to those who are enjoying Solo or Private Groups for development of new features that affect all modes to be delayed just because Open advocates want it?
.... or maybe should some consideration be given to the problem(s) without undue interference to the development of the rest of the game?
These issues also affect private group mind you. The problem here isn't about solo vs open; it's that this issue and combat logging have been around for months, and they have seemingly been swept aside as "irrelevant" by FDev, with little to no progress made on fixing these issues and many others, but with additional things added over the already broken framework. I'm not for or against stopping production completely until these issues are fixed, but it would be nice to see that they are actually planning on doing something with it instead of focusing 99% of their efforts on the next minor/major patch. For instance, we got that post from Sandro months ago about combat logging and yet it's still rampant and prevalent all throughout the game.
