Message to FD from everyone in Open. Please stop everything and fix instancing/matchmaking first.

With all due respect Robert, people playing in open must want to play with other players. Due to the games' faulty state, this cannot happen optimally as of yet.

Again an incorrect assumption I don't want to play with others - However I am quite happy to Chat with others I meet when I am on the fringes of space to pass tips to etc .

If I don't meet anyone for a month it makes it all the sweeter when I do. If I don't see anyone I don't really care but I choose to play open on the idea of a chance encounter

It doesn't matter. Open exist to interact with people. If this doesn't work, open is faulty, hence "everyone" in open want it fixed.

Given that not everyone plays in Open, is it fair to those who are enjoying Solo or Private Groups for development of new features that affect all modes to be delayed just because Open advocates want it?

.... or maybe should some consideration be given to the problem(s) without undue interference to the development of the rest of the game?

I don't mind if my lettuce has DDT on it as long as it's crisp!

Mmm...DDT...ughghgh

Whether he speaks for everyone in Open or not is immaterial, unless you're suggesting that FD for some reason consider Majin (or any one Player) 'The Voice'; allow the man some hyperbole.

What does matter in his post is his meaning:

...TL;DR – Instancing Sucks, Stop everything until you fix the basics...

I agree, fix the basics.

As a solo only player I've got no dog in this hunt, but I do want to comment from a software developer perspective. Especially a software developer who has read Herb Brooks' book "The Mythical Man-Month".

FDev doesn't need to 'drop everything' to work on this. In fact, that would probably be detrimental to the issue. There is an upper limit of developers you can put on a project (and that number is surprisingly low) before inter-developer communication starts to take so much bandwidth that it negatively impacts project timelines.

So while it may be worthwhile to implore FDev to place this issue as priority #1, it would actually be a very bad thing to ask them to put all of their developers on this one issue.

Instancing Sucks, if you have any time to spare after you've done all the extra upgrades on the exploration stuff you're working on, spare a moment to look into that.

Thanks!

Ziggy.

Thank you
Everyone in Open

I play exclusively in open. I can categorically state that you do NOT speak for everyone who plays in open.

Space is renowned for being empty, in fact it is mostly vacuum.
So here is my question: How can something that exists in a vacuum, suck? :D

Every time when I playing with friends in wing, we often have situation when we are in different instances. Is it a normal? Or we all at one instance, but other npcs/cmdrs at different instances for us. And similar things happen every time :( Instances are bugged. Open Play is broken.

Majinvash, for what it's worth I think you're right, and sure, you might not represent all of 'open', but I'd be very surprised if many of the players who play to a greater extent in open world would disagree with you. The open world is becoming a graveyard to the extent that I begin most pvp fights by thanking the other player for actually being there to fight at all. Except for when I get shot down too quickly by the OP :p

This is a serious problem which needs priority attention. With the increase of players working together in power play the situation has become worse since more players trying to do things together = more instancing issues. Bad idea to push the game to this level and not have the capability to do it properly.

I think people in this thread need to stop getting jacked out of shape because OP made a minor generalization. He's obviously implying something such as "everyone in open who would like consistent player interaction and/or pvp" but he kept it simple, and you bite his head off for it. Any idiot can tell that there's obviously people that don't agree 100%, but OP's point stands.

Instancing is absolutely horrid in 1.3, worse than it was in 1.2. If you're in a wing, it seems to activate some additional matchmaking priority and match you only with other wings when the instance/system begins to fill up with players; presumably in the interest of "fairness". These instancing problems cause a horrendous break of immersion; countless times have I followed people back to supercruise, just not to see them, even if a wingmate can. On 3 occasions I've chased people through 5-10 different systems successfully, just to pull up behind them, interdict them, and drop out to an empty instance with nobody in it. One of the worse issues is actually having to leave your wing, and wing up with your own enemy, from another group, just so you can see each other for 5 minutes to settle your differences To be fair, I find it ridiculous, never have I seen a p2p game with instancing issues this bad.

I see plenty of players in Open. I don't play pirate and have not yet turned my hand to bounty hunting - neither of which activities are totally reliant on players as targets. Don't get me wrong though - reliable instancing is important to the game, however Frontier are not in control of our domestic internet connections or the P2P throttling practices engaged in by some ISPs, so there is only so much that they can do.

Many people talk of supernodes. Supernodes are a good idea, and would solve most of the problems you see in this threat. Supernodes would also be fairly easy to incorporate into the current system.

These issues also affect private group mind you. The problem here isn't about solo vs open; it's that this issue and combat logging have been around for months, and they have seemingly been swept aside as "irrelevant" by FDev, with little to no progress made on fixing these issues and many others, but with additional things added over the already broken framework. I'm not for or against stopping production completely until these issues are fixed, but it would be nice to see that they are actually planning on doing something with it instead of focusing 99% of their efforts on the next minor/major patch. For instance, we got that post from Sandro months ago about combat logging and yet it's still rampant and prevalent all throughout the game.
