Is There Any Point Using Transportes In Open Play?

Usually i play solo but a few hours ago decided to try open play to see other cmdr's flying around and maybe chat ect... I jump into Nanomam to get instantantly interdicted and killed by cmdr #$% (i think he was in imperial clipper). So i lick my wounds after losing 200 Hudson supplies (or like 10hrs of my time) and 1 million for my type 7. I decide to stay in open play and went back about 10 mins later just to be killed by the same guy "spawn camping" Nanomam.

Obviously a coward that cant hold his own in a fair fight and that's why he has to pray on the defenseless, but that's not the point... hes not breaking any rules! Also its not like i was in dangerous territory. Last time i checked Nanomam was Federation Headquarters which should be one of the safest places to be? No federation ship came to my aid. No security forces to stop this guy from loitering and spawn camping.. No help from friendly cmdrs.. tried to warn a few people and they wont even talk back to you.

So am i missing something? Is there any reason i would go back to open play with a transport ship?

What shields?do you have what weapons? how much Chaff?
.
If the answer to all three is none -why are you flying an unarmed freighter? I always play open and ever since I was mass locked and hand my backside to me by one of SJA new npcs I have flown all three and usually heat sinks to help the mass lock overheating oh and I haven't seen a cmdr for weeks
.
Oh and name and shameing isn't allowed Id edit the cmdrs name out

Yes you are, some people like the extra challenge. There are multiple ways to avoid being interdicted in the first place. If you do get interdicted, there are multiple ways to successfully escape, even if you are in a lumbering freighter or transport ship.

Each to their own, I used to fly purely open, the cat and mouse tactics where fun. Now I mainly stick to Mobius, I don't think penalties are harsh enough for murderers in open.

If you play in Open you can be killed.

If you play in Solo you can be killed.

If you play in Private Group you can be killed.

Buy appropriate equipment to let you fight and / or run. Learn how to use that gear to your advantage.

Penalties in real life aren't harsh enough for crimes committed by most people x.x (sad note) but agreed.

Type 7 vs Clipper? It doesn't matter how you fit it, a human player will kill you in one go. You're victim blaming, and you should stop this.

Are you pledged to a Power? .

He said he was carrying Hudson supplies, so he's a fair kill. Power play is pretty clearly intended as PVP content (even if the mechanics don't support it) so people pledged to powers really shouldn't complain about being killed for carrying power supplies...

no because solo is so much easier, safer and efficient.

Frontier never made a proper incentive for open- so it's dying and almost useless in this singleplayer game.

That CMDR is probably pledged to an opposing power and he is using his ability to help prevent you from delivering your Power's supplies to your base system. It is a valid PowerPlay tactic.

This is one of the issues that I have with Open/Solo. You can freely stay in Solo and deliver your supplies without fear of being intercepted by an opposing CMDR and benefit yourself and your Power to the same extent as a CMDR risking their ship/wares in a far more dangerous environment. (In my opinion, this is not a balanced mechanic.)

There is also a flaw in the current bounty system. As soon as the CMDR that shall not be named, leaves the Nanomam system, he is no longer wanted. That bounty is only for that system. He can rack up his kills and then as soon as he feels pressure he just jumps to a nearby system and he is no longer wanted... Sure he is listed as an enemy to your power, but that's not exactly the same as having a Wanted status.

The actual answer is that you only need 1 of those things vs npc's (chaff).. and using all 3 of those things vs a cmdr in a clipper of fdl ect... wont make any difference if you are flying a giant brick that cant defend itself.

btw ty for warning, i edited post.

Why is he a coward?
-
He caused you to lose your merits, which are not added to a systems percentage of undermining until you cash them in therefore he helped undermine your power
-
Sure it wasn't honourable, but that's war for you
-
Would you expect a combat ship to just leave you alone if you had been in a system that you were expanding if you were in a transporter and weaker?
-
He did what he came to do, undermine your power, I would attack any ship ( except harmless or mostly harmles adders, haulers or sidewinders) but a transporter in an enemy faction? Valid target
-
Maybe next time your in open you will take shields and shield cells over extra cargo space

Clipper cmdrs are the worst they always shoot to kill with no communication. They finally got a powerfull, fast ship and they choose to be bad with it.

I totally agree. Its a simple logic.. higher risk/higher reward. Lets look at the risk reward system atm:

Pro's: .........

Cons:
-zero chance for a reward
-possibility you will lose your cargo
-possibility you will lose your ship
-there is a chance you will make an insurance company happy
-Huge chance that you will be grinding later to make up for clicking the "Open play" button

Did I miss anything XD ?

I tend to disagree - when I used to fly around where commanders are they ones who like to pick on "easy" pray are the ones that in general are about as good as combat as Ghandi and are pretty easy to get away from

The number of cmdrs you could avoid with good use of Chaff and FA off while jumping out is quite high, even in a type 7

How to play Powerplay? Delivery or destroy the power tokens.

One can choose to delivery and one can choose to destroy.

This is normal in Open because you choose to play with others.

Tip: If you see an opponent in the same system, drop supercruise and jump to somewhere else.

You don't need to be a best combat. Just learn how to avoid danger and run when need are enough.

Sense of danger and fight to survive make this game fun. You won't experience this in Solo.

This.

The sense of danger, and having to take measures to avoid it make the game more interesting. If there's no danger (from players or other factors), trading would be just some kind of spreadsheet simulator. I really enjoyed feeling vulnerable and having to take measures to avoid possible attackers back in the day when I was trading in a type-6 to get money for an Asp.

And honestly, the chance of being attacked by another player is very low. I've been playing since launch and was attacked by players 3 or 4 times only. And like someone has already said, it's not quite that hard to escape an attacking ship.

The thing is most traders because think that, because they are trading, can completely neglect their survivability. They remove weapons, sometimes even remove shields, don't equip chaff or any coutermeasures at all, don't invest in "boostability" (power distribution / thrusters) and they point their ship at the target stationm and don't care about the contacts in their scanner. But they only think about their "credits per hour".

And then one day BAM, "someone destroyed my ship, is not fair, his ship was bigger than mine, he didn't even say hello, griefers, gankers, FD give us an escaping computer", and other kinds of whining.

Fairness is nothing to do with it, some people some of the time - really don't want to do PVP or be victims of it. Its a massive turn off for some people. I know that once it became clear I could not compete with mega-corps in EvE Online - the fun started to disappear. Sometimes however I do like to PVP, and when I want that to happen, I'll play in open play.. the rest of the time I play in the Mobius Group (http://www.elitepve.com) so that I don't have to think about PVP at all.. Its more chilled out and that's a different experience but no less valid than full blown kill-em-all PVP. I love space trucking, I can chill out to some amazing music on Spotify (https://open.spotify.com/user/11125206898/playlist/5cpH9Azh5jt4yWwwyXJ6y5) and just have fun.
