We are not the frightened ones :D

Guildies are the ones begging for their style of gameplay to be introduced - as they cannot comprehend gaming without their safety blanket. Lone wolves just could not care less.

If you don't care and can't stop advertising a certain gameplay, the only conclusion I draw from that is, you're just trolling.

Actually the whole point of solo mode is to avoid other people altogether, not as a contrived PvP flag - remember, the original assumption was that PvP was going to be rare so most player interaction on Open was going to be PvE. Solo as a way to avoid PvP emerged as a response to the much higher levels of PvP than originally expected.

If FD does give in and implement guilds, I really hope they also give us a real PvP flag. In my experience guilds all too often end up as a way for insecure individuals to set themselves up as despots over their tiny empires.

Maybe 1% do. The rest just like playing with friends and working together. This even applies in EVE.

Wait a second! The "original vision" did not include open? You guys didn't like that and they changed it to allow solo.

How is this any different that what we are doing here?

Working together to what goal though? The people I'm thinking about would roam the countryside beating up anyone in a smaller group because they could, and split off running in all directions as soon as they met a larger force. That's a form of working together.

The original vision did include open, but DBOBE figured that PvP would be "rare and meaningful". I'm not entirely sure what "meaningful PvP" is, but the rare part means that he probably expected players to mostly play co-op. As it turned out, no plan survives contact with reality and co-op is actually fairly rare, with most people either blowing up anyone they meet or grinding trade solo.

This is my post. I didn't accuse you of doing either of those things. I just pointed out that they had been done. Unfair accusation.

When old polls from pre-alpha days showed 65% majority against any sort of "guild" content it was the last word - "the players have spoken - no guilds" yadda yadda. Now that the position is reversed the cry is that the polls are rigged and it's all a plot by those naughty guild-lovers

The game has changed from FD's original vision and that of the small cadre of original supporters. If FD insists on building exclusively "the game they want to play" for a niche market of fanbois it will wither and fade away. You design a product to cater to a market - you don't try to dictate to an imagined market and FD knows this far better than any of us.

I strongly support some sort of in-game structured player organisation system, but I don't think "guilds" as they are usually done in other multiplayer online games would work in ED. Player minor factions that sit at a level equivalent to NPC minor factions and can mesh in with Powerplay sounds more like a suitable fit.

Station ownership - no, but station control by players acting as a coordinated minor faction - resounding yes. The emergent gameplay possibilities of this are extensive.

I don't mind them blaming me. The conspiracy theories that have been flung in this thread are really funny, when all I did was start a poll on guilds/player stations. When I went to sleep, it was 55% no to 35% yes. But there were only 100 or so votes.

Then I wake up the poll being 55% for guilds/player stations and I am the criminal mastermind behind the greatest voter fraud in the universe!

Yeah, because I blamed you for ballot-stuffing, didn't I? No I didn't.

I don't know who "they" are, but I'm not one of "them", I'm "me" and I didn't accuse you of anything. You stated that you created the poll in order to get guilds in the game, which indicates bias toward a desired outcome and invites scrutiny of the wording of the poll and announcement posts, and the number, type and wording of the poll options. The other stuff was clearly just a commentary on the situation in general, not an accusation toward you.

Sorry to say it but I've been on board since the kickstarter and played since Alpha but if Frontier change their mind on guilds that would probably be the last straw for me and confirmation of the games new direction. I'd probably call it a day. I'm hoping it doesn't happen.

I wasn't talking about you! Haha This was 12 hours ago.

I can just imagine David Braben, sitting on his osmium throne in the Dev Owned station, when an FD staffer brings him the news "Sir, the forumers have voted for Guilds, the people have spoken!"

DB cups his chin and ponders a moment, then bellows "MB - bring me my guild-crushing ban hammer!" :D

I heard he took a swing in KS with the hammer, I saw him wield it at EGX2014, then again in an interview that Robert linked from a couple of weeks back. Apparently DBOBE lent the hammer to Sandro for Lavecon, DBOBE couldn't make Lavecon but ensured the "hammer" was present, its like his Olympic flame I guess.

More support for player groups? As in Guilds or PP?

Having spoke to Sandro last night, definitely not Guilds.

That was Lavecon, 2 days ago. Add to that FD chose P2P rather than C/S, knowing its limitations, one might see a pattern forming.

It was a reply to the post berating me for accusing you of something when I didn't, made by the poster who admitted that they did at least one of the things that I was supposedly accusing you of. You quoted that post in your reply.

Yea. Makes sense. I'd probably quit too if a game decided to increase social interaction that had no effect on me.
