As it now seems that a majority (cough cough) of 'players' not only want Guilds but also want Guild Owned Stations, no one has really answered a question I posted a couple of times in the early pages of this thread: "What do you hope to achieve by being in a Guild and having your own station?"
.
If it is just playing with your friends, well as long as your friends are limited to 15, go for it.
If it is to create your own little fiefdom, why? What will you get out of it except some pretty screen shots of YOUR station?
If you want to act like a one of the current factions, what will you change? You can't change the price of commodities, modules or ships (at least I am pretty sure you can't), so what will you do?
.
There has been some very vigorous posts supporting the inclusion of Guilds etc., but none really said what they want to do and why they want them? Convince us, tell us what your plans are.
.
We who are supporting the current system (i.e. the naysayers, the old stick in the muds, those who just don't understand how games are played) don't have to justify our stance as it is the current game. You, on the other hand, want rather massive changes to the infrastructure of the game, you should be able to convince us of the benefits since it will effect all players, whether you admit that or not.
.
P.S. Saying "Cos other games have guilds" is not a valid reason!
.
How strange, two more pages of posts and as yet, no one can explain why they want Guilds or Guild owned stations. One can only come to the conclusion they don't know why they want them either ;)

+300 players don't want guilds or player groups in a mmo.

That's a lot of players that like playing with themselves.

Because not one of them is, say, happy with the idea behind a private group option. Because there isn't a single no vote because they dread seeing rampant, militant balkanisation that too often comes when you combine open, free PvP with independent player groups. Because none of the naysayers possibly just think that handing over control to player-led power blocs would be bordering on suicidal and certainly irrational for the open half of the game even without considering player controlled stations.

Again, nothing that the innocent, eager for social interaction players want -NEEDS- guilds or station owning or anything else proposed or discussed here. The fact that there are dozens of extant groups serving all kinds of different goals and styles speaks quite clearly why there is simply no -NEED- for it. Tools are out there, the players can easily find and use them and have all the social interactivity they want without needing dev time, without needing an exhaustive bug testing trial, without introducing all the negatives that a reasonably large and passionate group of players justifiably foresees, for absolutely zero net gain.

Players create the only interesting events in the game: Lugh, Mercs of Mikunn, Unidentified Artefact (Artifact) research, typo-free Galnet stories, Code / EIC / etc subplots

What do solo players create: "If Frontier adds guilds I'll quit!"

Come on guys, can't we all just get along and add guilds?

Fact: If a solo player quits the game no one will notice.
Fact: If content creating groups quit the game it's an even more empty game.

Also strange that no one has a valid reason why they don't want guilds.

I voted no. Sorry, but I deal with enough towering egos all day at work and do not have any desire to do so when relaxing at night. I can just see all the 14 year old (be it in literal terms or levels of mental development) "little Napoleons" trying to order us all around - no thanks. Sorry to be so blunt but the last thing we need is EVE 2 as we already have the abject misery of EVE 1. At any rate if ED goes down this path I am out of here.

Sorry to say it but I've been on board since the kickstarter and played since Alpha but if Frontier change their mind on guilds that would probably be the last straw for me and confirmation of the games new direction. I'd probably call it a day. I'm hoping it doesn't happen.

Been here since beta and agree

<snip>On a serious note, please stick with the guilds and player owned content in this thread. I dread to think what would happen if we had to merge this into the Open v Solo threadnaught.

Do it! I dare you :p;):D, we could be on MK3 Solo/Open/Groups in 30 minutes or less :D.

I don't like crunchy peanut butter. Do I really need to validate why I don't like crunchy peanut butter? I like smooth peanut butter just fine.
Please desist, amigo - that's twice I've had to go and raid the larder for bread and peanut butter (the smooth variant)!

Again, I want guilds (or whatever you want to call them) for the simple reason to have a tool ingame to organise stuff. A chatchannel and a guildtag would be enough, I don't want some fancy tools or the ability to form larger fleets than wings (I wouldn't mind those though, if the later is available to not-guilded persons as well).

I find it funny, talking about balkanization, when we have just lone people all over space. I personally am tired to have to use out of game tools to get something done. Changing windows surely helps with immersion.

And about the 14 year old Napoleons, who cares ? Who, being mature, is going to follow their lead. It usually isn't the way that you can't leave a guild.

Oh, feared they're going to block an entrance to a system and shoot everything on sight ? As if they couldn't do that with out of game tools already. No clue, why you guys are frightened.

And to the guy stating, why the people don't do research before buying a game. This is the first MMO I bought that doesn't have player organisations, so I didn't expect that.

There have been many zero day accounts today, most of which have had no activity but, guess what, vote on this poll.

ETA - another 10 accounts as I typed the above

Any chance of a breakdown at some point please, with / without "zero day accounts"? if its possible.

Thank you, finally someone tried to explain why the want guilds, although Bragor really only wants the ability to have a tag and a working communications system. I have no problem with that but that isn't what the poll asked or what a lot of those in favour have been asking for is it.

This has already been discussed, repeatedly, if you care to read back. Ultimately the consensus is 'it doesn't matter.' Like the old poll.
Besides, many of us did invite friends to come vote, it wasn't a threat. ;)

Reasons why guilds and player owned stations would be great:

Right after the game finishes loading from logging in, my pilot hits the light switch to his left. The pitch black darkness surrounding my ship is slowly lit up by a parade of flickering fluorescent lights. The chipped paint of my Python reveals the worn travels she's gone through. What was a completely dark hangar is now a gritty, grimy, and gray jumble of station parts thrown together. Small clouds of atmosphere slowly drift through the zero-g environment.

A burst of air coughs out of the rickety vents as I hit the return to surface button. Air is sucked out with great force as the air seal is broken, not having installed an atmosphere shield yet. My D-class hangar bay creaks under the massive weight as it propels me to the surface. A long launch tunnel comes into view, with a small rectangle opening just big enough for a medium ship. As my asteroid hangar slowly spins I take a moment to watch the sun rise above the gas giant's swirling storms in the distance.

"Commander Vincent, hey man. We need to go now!" a voice awakens me from my stupor. It's one of my guildmates. "I just got a high paying mission and need your help, we only need one more for a full wing!".
I push to talk a quick reply. "Roger, lets do this." I navigate through comms and wing up, and set a course to his current system without opening the galaxy map. Time to launch.

A large smile stretches across my face as I hit the launch button. "Preparing to launch in 5..." electric magnets begin to purr beneath me "4...3...2...1!" The magnets have reached a deafening crescendo hum.
"LAUNCH!" I'm stuck to the back of my chair as a massive boom from the electrocatapult accelerates me to over 500 m/s. Streaks of light which were once the docking nav lights race past me in seconds and suddenly I'm outside of my station. A thunderous boost from my thrusters signals my station to lock itself up as I fly out of mass lock range.

As I look back at my station in my rear view camera fixated below my scanner, I receive one last comms from my station: "Fly safe, commander."
And then, that beautiful voice reaches my ears. "Ready to engage. 4, 3, 2, 1..."
