Sarah, it may be time to tone it down a bit.

I kind of fear that with this push to "make killer AI" people forget that not everyone's flying in an A-graded Python / Anaconda... those things cost money, and if things go too far you won't be able to MAKE money to buy those ships (or the grind will become so long and tedious that everyone will leave).

No, you just be more careful about what fights you get into and when to "bail-out".

I did such a judgement last night when I took on a flight of 5 NPC's (4 vipers and a DB explorer) - even in an Anaconda......

This kind of thing is a good thing to have to do.

I'd just be happy if their turrets would respect my chaff. LOL!

Don't get close. Turrets will be disrupted by your chaff, but will hit your hull anyway (if not the subsystem they are aimed at), if you are close to them. You need to stand off. The larger the ship you fly the further you need to be.

I am loving the new AI. They are a proper challenge now and much more fun.

It's already been mentioned that the plan is a broad spectrum of difficulty.
Lower intensity will mean lower Ranked ships..etc..

As for a CZ strategy, I tend to stay out of the central hot zone and pick off around the edges. ;)

Ease up on the AI? No!

Simple, not all AIs are top-ranked, nor are they flying first-rate ships. Balancing will create a curve whereby there is a challenge all the way along the progression.

And as has been said before, the effort is not to create a killer AI that never misses and cheats - that's easy. The challenge for the devs is to create an AI mimicking a highly skilled human pilot.

But....

Isn't this what everybody wanted?

:)
No, not everybody. Personally I'm not bothered, at least not from a combat point of view. I do find it sad though that it makes the game-as-a-whole less realistic for me and more 'arcadey' (though it's not the only thing that's done that of late). Hmm... perhaps I am bothered after all.

the Ai just loves teaming up on you and just you.

On my dropship, I find I now actually ahve to focus down the eagles and vultures before I target the pythons/condas else I get peppered down by the small fry.

I have to run when I get 2 pythons/condas firing on me when I focus on small fry though or try to "kite" them into friendly units to get some heat off me.

This is a very good point, I have no problem with the AI being tough - even tougher in fact

But I do find it absurd that all the AI enemy ships decide to suddenly all concentrate on you.

I've flown into some Cz's only to have to make an immediate retreat, because I've got six or seven ships all firing at me and no one else.

In fact when I enter a CZ, I usually retreat to about 7km out, so I can then pick off some of the smaller ships

I'm using a fully kitted out vulture btw, I've seen newbie commanders trying to fight using eagles and they've stood no chance..

I just entered one of the military strikes in LP 580-33, which Hudson is expanding into. I side with the defense force and target a Python. Now, I fly a python myself, albeit D-grade, but I was shredded.

After 30 seconds, not one kill, but 78% hull and a deep fear of the AI. I can't participate in PP with this hunk of junk xD
Think this thread is sarcastic.
I love how difficult NPCs are becoming. We shouldn't have win:loss ratios in the thousand:eek:ne range. Losing is !!FUN!!

Donthe AI target larger ships in groups?

When I was flying my FdL, I found I would have 3 plus ships on my 6. I coild still win, but it was harder to do so without taking hull damage.

I now fly an Imp Courier, the manoeuvrability is such that I find the AI doesnt get as many hits...

And I can still take down big ships one on one..

Combat zones should be the ultimate combat challenge where you only go with your best setup and probably in an experienced, organised wing. It's a war in there, not just a few hopeful pirates.

I'm sorry, but compared to what I'm currently working on, the current combat AI is real easy. ;) I'm working on loads of upgrades for the higher ranks, have been testing various ships against an Elite Anaconda on my build. Well, I can't beat him. :D Not even close. :D Lots of balancing is needed before this all goes public. :)

Just in a low intensity zone at LHS 3447 in open with my Vulture... Yep, the NPCs are a now a little bit more evil. On entering you get ganged up on immediately. As the guy above says, run away, then return and you can pick them off one by one.

Its the fact that they gang up on you which is making it harder, not the individual NPCs. They are just as easy as always.

Do you need any beta testers?
