That costs... how much?

well. it starts with the small ships, doesn't it?

cobra: 235k
a-specced: >10mil.

one c2 gimb. beam costs double the cobra.

please, don't get us talked in common sense in this game. there is none.

Weeelll....

Let's compare a few Sidewinders with the most basic parts

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=701,,313S3S3S1u1u1u22,7OC
http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=701,,2-3w3w3w2M2M2M22,7Og

23K - The E class
121K - 5,26 times the E class
175K - 1,45 times the D class
332K - 1,90 times the C class
847K - 2,55 times the B class

http://www.tsmplug.com/f1/average-cost-of-formula-1-car/

That's an AVERAGE F1 car at 9,5 million

Let's assume that's a "C" class F1 equivalent of the Sidewinder

The C class is 4,84 times cheaper than the A class and if that was the F1 car it would cost 46 million

The E class beginner F1 would be aproximately 1277K being 36 times cheaper.

Prices seem to vary a bit.

EDIT: Bad at math

Reading around, I've noted comments that the C7 shields are a must for the Clipper.
So I figured ok cool. I'll go get one! :D

Pop over to my local dealership.
Yo fella, I can haz class 7 shields plox!
Aight mate. That'll be 51 million credits...

Shut ze front door....!

Heh! Ok, so I know that they have to try and balance these things somewhat.
But my Clipper cost me what something like 22 million? Maybe less?

If I bought a brand new car, I wouldn't expect the windows to cost me twice as much as the car itself! :)
Lol!

I think if / when I have 50 million credits hanging around to spare, I'm going to be more likely to invest in a python (with trade-ins, etc). I've been itching to try that ship out.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Clipper. After a load of early crashes due to mistakes (which almost put me off the ship), I've come to really start to cherish it these days. Even with the absolute gash hardpoint placements! :D

But 50 million for a basic C7 shield.... yowzers...
That has to be the most expensive module I've ever needed for this ship I think?

I bet if you tried to fit ambassador grade bullet proof windows to a Vauxhall astra then the cost of the windows would be much more than the cost of the car.

A7 shields, quad A boosters, and 100 tons of SCBs, on a ship that can push 435 boost, make for a really annoying opponent.

Welcome to the retardation that is elite dangerous logic.
You can but a set of mag wheels for your car for $1000 but the wheel nuts will cost you $600,000

The absolute maximum shield on a Clipper is 550MJ, still not that strong - thus, may as well put class 3 shields on there, optimize for cargo, and thank the Empire that you don't have to use a T-7 to grind your way to a Python.

Is it so much better to have C7 rather than A6? According to edshipyard A6 actually provides stronger shields, or does the optimal/maximum mass still play a significant role here, even though the clipper hull is below optimal mass of the A6 shield?

And I just noted, for the same price as the A6 i can get a B7, although that comes with extra mass, which i'm not sure i want.

Can't really afford to splash out on the A7 at the moment, so it seems like its either best to stick with A6 or go to the B7, C7 doesn't seem to make any sense except in order to save some money.

Which is rather stupid, why not go all the way then.

Some hulls are still far beyond my grasp unless I go the boring route of rare trading.

Make hulls cheap and all equipment expensive.

Then they could hae let actual equipment boost your stats.

Armour modules actually increasing your armour so that you could buy a cheap Anaconda but then spend 500 million on it before you even get B grade gear.
Shield boosters actually increasing your total shieeld by a lot so your starting version ship might have 1/6 of the stats it has today.

To be fair though, the ship cost was reduced by demand of the community a while back. Remember the witch hunt over the FDL and Vulture prices?

Make hulls cheap and all equipment expensive.

I think its already here. I mean its incredibly stupid that ship can be cheaper then 1 module.
Unless for example Anaconda was destined to cost ca 500m cr and to make it more affordable price of basic version was reduced ( like Vulture, FdL) but price of modules were not.

Still its silly for module to cost more then whole ship, on top of that lack of module storage and 10% sale penalty ideas - even more silly.

Anyone tried putting an 8A shield on a T9 for the 162mil credits?

I name it "The Tank Cow":

Turn off FSD, Cargo hatch and all SCB's except one. One day I will fly this into a combat zone and sit there spamming the cell bank button...

Edit: Only 43mil if you get the 15% discount at Li Yong-Rui systems.

Remove all cargo and take B modules and hull reinforcement upgrades.

Add military grade armour.

and on top downgrade thrusters to D and go beam turrets.

Reduce FSD to smallest possible for insystem combat only.

This was mainly for fun, I wanted to see what the biggest shields were (and the price) and got carried away.

The whole ship is designed around un-beatable shields so hull packages and B modules not that useful, same with military armour since the only thing that will seriously break that ship is a lot of laser weapons so reflective :p
FSD size/class doesn't matter at all if turned off in combat.

I considered beam turrets and the idea of turning that 1 chaff into another booster but its short on power, maybe something like this if I knock the thrusters down:

Not sure how that distributor would hold out though...

Edit: As said its just for fun, lets not hijack the OP :)

No, no! I don't mind the hijack.
In fact, I'm kind of intrigued with the Tank-Cow of Doom idea now... lol!

It would probably fare well against a lot of smaller enemies but I don't think it would do well against anything bigger than a Vulture since it will just run out of shield cell banks over time. It may be fun to troll a pirate with though, the never ending shields :)

What im imagining in my head now is some demolition derby with several of these T9's :)
