I just found a picture of David Braben reading this thread

Your disagreement is noted and added to the vote I just conducted. There were 2 participants. 1 voted against, 1 voted in favour. In the case of stalemate, the guild leader decides.

It's official: This is the guild thread.

Are you sure that you don't want to post it on a guild fansite to increase votes in your favour?

Indeed.

It is interesting, to me at least, that the term for player involvement used in the Dev Update was "sponsored" rather than "run", "controlled" or any other term that would imply that players were in control of the Minor Faction.
I'll say it again; NPC chaperones. I'm getting good at this, huh?
Regardless, it sounds interesting and a good fit with the lore. Power? All I asked for was a Tag and instancing preference, but I guess Power is nice too.

Fascinating...

Expect some 'truth' to be extracted regarding the real reasons for the hard push for Guilds.

What, like to inject social content into Power Play and encourage participation in Open. This was discussed in almost every Power Play thread and the last Guild Poll thread. Sounds like a logical move for FD to make.

Do you think the OP's linking of a Guild mechanic, and player owned stations was an error? Do you really think that if FD were to capitulate to this movement that the issue would be settled? Not hardly. The reasonable arguments for guilds is just a facade. Let the mob force any issue, and you embolden it. Look at the attitude change in this thread as the poll started to go in favor of option one.

FD would do well to improve comms and let it go at that. Players want to organize, then organize. Then, this smoke screen will be dispersed and the true agenda would be exposed.

*incoming broadcast*

Drunks Of Sol would like to announce their intent to become the galaxy's prime inebriates. We will completely and utterly <hic>

<passes out>

Where do I sign up :), Oh hang on a minute I better check the rules first, well just the one, are we allowed to drink what we want? If I am limited to a guild preferred drink I need to check you are not the "Babycham Boys" or the "Gin Guzzlers" in disguise first :D.

ETA no Cider for me either, got very, very, drunk on it at 16 and never drank it again.

Yeah, there's more I'd say on this but the moderators would rather I stay zipped...+1 Mohrgan.

Social interaction gets thrown about as a reason for Guilds, but it's too vague a term to be thought of as positive or negative. Hanging about on a street corner, intimidating passers-by and turning them away from your territory could be termed "social interaction". Mugging people at knifepoint could be termed "social interaction".

Guilds are all about control, control of players, resources, territory, and ultimately the game itself. Guild chat channels can be used to facilitate everything else (with external tools already available).

FD will either keep guilds strictly under control (annoying a a lot of people) or the game is going to become "EVE cockpit view" (annoying a different lot of people).

A separate guild mode as a compromise will never satisfy a guilds wish to exert control, they'll need victims to get their power fix. I'll bet if we got separate mode's we'd get guild organized wings trying to throw their weight around in open.
