In short: we're leaving Pluto and Charon to the simulation for now because we want to land on them someday
So, planetary landings as a confirmed roadmap item.......???????

Thought they always had been?

They *want* to land on them someday, not they are *going* to land on them someday, and no one is saying *someday* is a day in this century. But perhaps Soon(™).![]()
After re reading the devs answer thread, i don't think landings are in any near future plans, as walking around ships has been ruled out. And i think that would come first.
"When will we be able to walk on our ships?
We have nothing to announce on this one, now or at Gamescom. Walking around on ships is in our plans, for sure, but it’s a very long way off."
The game's been out of beta, what, seven months? I imagine that kind of design work takes alot of time. I think it's worth waiting a while. They've never given any indication it wasn't on the list and it's been mentioned fairly frequently.
I don't disagree about the timescale. Indeed, I'd be very surprised if the Gamecon announcement is about planetary landings, except on airless rocks, as it is way to soon after release (and you could argue that it's still in beta). They have said in one of the newsletters previously that expansions would occur *if* the game was successful, not regardless of all factors. Plus, the whole 'yeah there'll be single player offline... oh whoops... we can't do it thing'. I'm with AnnuverScotInExile on this. Seeing is believing.
They have. That and being able to walk around your ship & stations. The only question is when and how these will be developed.
